Welcome to Dawson City, the heart of the Klondike Gold Rush! We spent a super fun 24 hour exploring the city, including learning tons of history on a walking tour, going inside of a dredge, sharing a unique local tradition, and admiring the views of the area. This city feels like a walk back in time and has maintained so much of its historic charm!

Great video...I fact checked😉...as I lived in Dawson City for 6 years in the '80s. Worked as a tour guide by day for a few years, and blackjack dealer at Gerties by night. And I worked in the bar where toe was stored back then...but still haven't done it.😂 Still live in the Yukon and love visiting Dawson a few times a year. You should put the Chilkoot hike on the list for a future trip. Skagway to Bennet, then train to Carcross. Definitely a 'real hike' but all my sons and husband have done it. It's pretty epic, beautiful views and you'd probably love it!

The tour guides were very informative. Enjoyed hearing both. How far people traveled to stand in a line for 32-33 miles, just to be turned back, had to be upsetting. The mail has come a long ways from those days. I couldn't stomach the gnarly toe either. Oh me! Strange things happen in this world today. I paused to read the Miners Ode (if I could call it that?) I just wandered how 1 felt when they gave up their youthful years for gold to miss out on a life they could have had with a family. Sounds like people took advantage of these miners when they came into town too. Those were hard days. Enjoyed your vide, & its ending.
@AdventuresofAplusK
@AdventuresofAplusK Жыл бұрын
It was quite the journey to get to the Klondike and even if you got there nothing was promised. I guess it is a noble cause to give up ones youth in hopes of providing for your family. And yes it does seem like many miners were taken advantage of. Thank you so much for watching!

Such a fab video guys. I really loved your guide at the start, the topics she covered on her tour were very up my street. It was fascinating to hear how long it would take travellers to reach Dawson City, I never would have guessed they'd be stuck in winter, or why. Crazy that they did 'the worlds most boring conga line' that many times (I loved her analogy of this ❤) The saloon was super interesting, including how the bar men would get their tips. Then best not to get me started the post. We're just so used to the internet now, but the idea of having to stick a letter to a tree 🤯 Mind blown! Can't get over how cheap those tours were either. Very excited to hear you'll be heading North - you got me on that one as it wasn't expected. After a quick look on a map, my money is going on Tuktoyatuk. I remember a very long time ago looking at a tour in Alaska where taking a flight out to Tuktoyatuk was an optional extra activity so it says to me there must be something of interest...

I passed through Dawson City on a solo Illinois to Alaska motorcycle trip. I believe I had dinner at a restaurant that was in the same building as the “toe”. The owner of the place (who also road motorcycles) came over and asked if it was my bike sitting outside. He then asked if he could join me and talk to me about my trip. I enjoyed his company and conversation especially since I was traveling solo. He actually took care of my dinner check, how cool is that? Later took the ferry across the Yukon River and stayed at a Hostel on the other side. Anyhow, thanks for bringing back some memories!

You commented back that you don't drink, but did get video of someone doing it and here it was. I'm really glad among the things you did is you drove up to the Dome. The view from there is spectacular. When I rode my Harley up there, it was all gravel(I assume it still is) so it was an experience, especially coming back down. But worth it.i really love your channel. You two are great.

Going back and watching some of your previous videos... Dawson City is so interesting... and, only 3,300 miles away from me in Arizona! Some day... Gold rush days (same here in the Southwest) and booming towns were quite interesting times, and wow, what people did (and still do, I suppose) to chase a dollar. I respect that you don't drink, and won't make any excuse or reason why you should to change your mind. I enjoy a few cold brews while camping or on vacation. Also, while on vacation, I don't mind staying up late to take in the nightlife (I live close to Las Vegas and visit often). You guys hit a goldmine with that pork sandwich and meat/cheese board after taking in all the shows the night before. Keep living well. Pete - KI7LIL

Oh it's just around the corner from you 😂😜 Dawson City is a special place. Unlike any other we've been to considering how well they have maintained it. Yes it's just a personal decision we've made. We of course don't pass any judgement on those that do! Nothing wrong with it as long as it's done responsibly. The sandwich and cheese board were delicious! That was a great spot! Thanks and thanks for watching, Peter!

What a great history lesson! I learned how you got your name at 8:53. I was just in Dawson a month ago. I didn't kiss the toe either. The Parks Canada tours were awesome. I'm surprised you didn't do a tour at the First Nations Trondek center or at least bring it up in your video. Yay, you're showing your Dempster Highway video next week. I'm excited as that is the one thing I haven't done yet.

Another interesting historical video. One question, what is the toe made of? Never mind I looked it up and it is really a mummified toe preserved in salt. I don't know if I would do it. First, I might have to have a couple of," clear shots", before the one with the toe in it. Thanks for the video. Dawson looks like a fun place.

There are two types in places like Dawson. Nothing wrong with either but the sour toe cocktail is for tourists while the paddle wheel grave yard is for travelers. For those of you watching and inclined to visit Dawson, you cross the river to the Yukon campground, walk down to the river bank and walk downriver. You will know when you are there, To me it seems very grave yard, to a tourist it would be piles of old, semi rotten wood and metal. Again, nothing wrong with either point of view but I have been to Dawson City three times and I do drink alcohol and I have not and never will do that gimmick cocktail thing.

@@AdventuresofAplusK Absolutely! All kinds of room for all kinds of folks. As someone who lives in a moderately tourist impacted town I will say its great to see them start coming in spring and it is terrific to see them go home in the fall. (LOL) You two mix the traveler stuff in with the tourist stuff like experts, seamlessly.
