Lake District: A big climb called “The Struggle” has an unexpected surprise for us in store. We get a great tip for one of the most beautiful camp spots in the UK. A converted railway line shows us a unique and picturesque perspective on the surrounding landscape. When we get stuck a local man helps us to get onto an old viaduct we have to cross. Scotland is close but first we have to navigate through a vast no man’s land. Our map shows a wilderness hut somewhere in the sea of green but is it really there...

I think this might be your best video yet. It has everything: wonderful shots of scenery, interesting anecdotes, a bit of philosophy, good food, amazing campsites... my only (selfish) complaint is that it isn't longer; I could watch your videos all day. I love that you guys accepted the ride up The Struggle. As someone who would have probably said no out of pride, (knowing, as you mentioned, that there is a certain satisfaction in climbing it under your own power). But your lesson to us is that it's important to say "yes" when these experiences come your way. I'm sure the ride in the truck was at least as memorable pedalling up The Struggle would have been. I also really appreciate how respectful you are of the environment and your surroundings. So many people don't care; but our individual actions do make a difference. As always, thank you for your amazing work. Stay safe!

I visited the Lake District about 20 years ago. That place is a mood in itself, you feel you're out of time, perhaps in the 40s or 50s, and you might overlook fairies dancing somewhere. I find that with the current times, that place is a jewel.

I don't comment frequently on your videos but would like to say I've enjoyed every one. The UK can be a beautiful place away from the city and towns. If you can get off the roads and onto trails it opens up places with far fewer visitors. I follow a few other bike tourists and the successful ones all have the ability to sort bike problems out without every time having to find a bike shop. You certainly seem able to do this. Many thanks for sharing your videos.

We appreciate that Colin! The UK is fabulous for cycling in our experience. We think it's good to have maintenance skills to be able to fix mechanical problems. That way you are able to go out and be self reliant in far flung places. Best wishes, E&M

I grew up on the outskirts of the Lake district and now live close to the welsh border. I've seen you cycle all over the world and never expected to see you cycle in the UK for some reason. I guess I thinks it seems boring compared to some of the places you've been. However, watching your trip has re-inspired me to get out and do some touring in the UK myself. I love the pace and easygoing nature of your videos. There's no 'message', just two people enjoying the process of cycling and interacting with people they meet along the way.

I believe they are called Bear and Grizzly (not exactly sure) they have portable collapsible foldable fire pits too. Also if you'd like to stand up in your tent North Face, MSR, Big Agnes, and Kelty brands have cabin tents anywhere from 6-13lbs. Beginning size for a cabin tent; 4 persons. Sharing...(lol) the fall from Eric. I was walking my dogs last week on regular grounds (cement) and I fell too. I would like to go into detail about the fall, but I won't all I have to say is that the INNER FOLD likes to RUSH people's movements at times.

Lovely video and wonderful scenery. I have long wanted to travel to the UK to ride the Lake District; ever since reading the story of 'Swallows & Amazons' by Arthur Ransome as kid, and later as a young cycle tourist, Frederick Alderson's book "England by Bicycle'. But OMG, the Italians will be horrified! You BROKE the spaghetti into your pot. Sacrilege!😱😒A good camping cyclist should always cook the spaghetti whole, just softening it into the boiling water😉 Your videos are always fantastic, a delight to view, and I love your philosophy on bicycle-touring and travel in general.

Great. I heard the guy that lives there sometimes lets people through. No luck with me so far with my bikepacking gear lol The road detour is very hilly! It's a hilly area round there, the old railway is the only flat bit!

Ah guys, I love your videos, always interesting and full of information, I like hearing your perspective and thoughts on my home country. It must be lovely to use the bovys and take shelter from the rain and wind, simple and effective and free.. And the further north you go, I think you'll find the landscape and scenery will just get better... Enjoy and thanks for sharing 🙂✌🏻🚲🚲

Industrial heritage in County Durham and Northumberland is extensive. The oldest railway line in the world and the first ever viaduct built in the world. Well worth a visit to Beamish Museum. Buildings taken down brick by brick and rebuilt there from around the region. Roman roads, Hadrians wall and many Roman settlements. Durham Cathedral too.

Here in America we have so many beautiful places. Some places are so unique that no where in the world can mimic it. Yet people litter and use it like it's nothing to preserve. It kills me. I always try to bring a trashbag with me to leave it better than I found it. Love your videos you two - keep at it!

Thank you Shawn! It pains us too. 'Leave no Trace' should be in the Constitution. Loads of people never learn this and are sadly ignorant. Best wishes, E&M
