Serial killer Darren Deon Vann used the abandoned houses around Gary, Indiana as a dumping ground for his victims, but he was not the only person to use these abandoned buildings for this purpose. These three schools have also had the unfortunate distinction of having bodies found inside them as well.

Gary was once a very safe & beautiful city. Then in the mid 70s there was a management change & things got to where you couldn't leave your house without getting robbed and or beaten. Finally our family had to leave ....😨

@@peterpiwoski5677 I lived there for the first 26 years of my life. I have been from Small Farms area to Marquette Beach area from downtown Gary to Merrillville, for the most part until around the mid 1990's if you lived there, there was no more crime than any other urban areas in many US cities with maybe the exception of the midtown area of Gary or the projects. And I have visited people in the projects too. If you didn't bother people for the most part, there was no trouble. At least not to the degree the urban legend hunters posting all these videos of blighted buildings in Gary depict. Most of the burnt-out buildings and schools have been destroyed in the last 10 years or so.

That empty elementary school made me wanna cry. I saw the piano left there. Think of all the children that could play it and learn music. I wish we could stop this road we're going down. It's like nobody cares. Like life isn't even real anymore, it's a video game or a "simulation" as so many people love to claim. So they figure there's no consequences to their actions.

It really is sad seeing the schools fall apart. I've been exploring in gary a few times and it always is crazy to me to see how fast these properties fall apart. I was there exploring today and one of the schools was abandoned in 2015. And it's completely fallen apart and it's pretty sad to see. But, it does make for amazing urbexing opportunities.

I went to Emerson when it was visual and performing arts school in the 80's and its sad to see the gym we used to hang out in during lunch in such a condition. I graduated from Horace Mann on 5th and Garfield in 93'. That school is also in deplorable conditions. When I go home to visit, I still sometimes drive through my old stomping grounds just to see how its changed....

Actually, it was other people who were actually vandalizing the school that came around her body, and they called the police. I'm from Gary, born and raised and this was actually normal to see. Them young boys robbing and killing. That's why I had to get out. Once I finished college, I wasn't raising my kids their. I love my city for the person it made me, but I wanted my kids to see and have more, so I left.

Also, not to discredit you, but where that water is running and the building it’s connected to by that covered walk way, is actually E.A. Spaulding Elementary.

That’s where Michael Jackson was born. His family lived in a two bedroom house with nine children. There was six boys, so they had a triple bunkbed 22 of them and one bedroom so two triple bunkbeds to fit six boys and then the one room with the parents and then the living room, the three girls slept and then when they got famous Jackson 5, they moved out to Encino California and a mansion that’s still there it’s still owned by the family I think.

As u walk through these abandoned schools keep in mind that u are in the buildings that are the root solution to all the problems in the cities. That's it. You're in them. It's the schools. They are the solution. Education is the only thing that's been proven to change people in cities like that. Walking through these buildings tho u can see what the politicians and the community truly believe about the education of the children. Doesnt matter. Not a big deal. When they closed these schools they didn't even bother to do it properly. They walked out the door and abandoned them as is. It's bc they didn't care about the schools or what would happen with them. Just move to a new building like none of it matters bc none of it matters to them. People put more effort into switching their stuff from an old car to a new one. I've never seen schools that were truly abandoned the way these were. Most closed schools are either tended to by the city or have community members that care enough to try to protect them bc they care about the school of their childhood. Not these schools tho. No love or passion for these schools exist in that city. School is simply a free babysitter for some and a necessary evil for others.

This is what happens when you have people.that don't care about their environment. I lived in a little town growing up and everywhere there were signs saying: "Clean up. Fix up. Paint up." People cared. Obviously, the people living here don't get it. They prefer squalor to living like humans, or more likely, they expect someone else to do the dirty work for them.

I grew up in Indiana not far from Chicago which is now just as bad as Gary . It sucks cause Indiana is a great place to raise kids and enjoy the outdoors. Or if that's not ur thing there are plenty of big cities or small towns. But now the cities and even the smaller town are becoming war zones because of the drugs and the violence the dope game brings ! The police get more crooked everyday and they kill so many people these days it's getting ridiculous! I don't know what the answer is and I'm not blaming anyone but what I do know is things gotta change. Hip hop culture is killing our youth and the ones that don't want to live a life of drugs and violence get involved because they have to because it's the only way to survive. White or black don't matter because there is a war against the common person and if you ain't a millionaire Satanist or work for and align with one you are considered a part of the problem.
