All these little nooks and crannies, the narrow alleyways, the neon lights, the way the side streets and buildings have an almost-organic quality to them like some kind of overgrown urban garden, really has a way of capturing the imagination. I'd love to go back when I can!

I'm in the first few frames here, having a moment that I often have where I sit here and remark at how amazing the camerawork is. The pixels quality, the colours, contrasts, angles, framing... Always a little bit breathtaking how it pops off the screen. Okay, I'm going back to watching now.

The shrine down the narrow alleyway is beautiful 💜 I love that buildings are knocked and built again, not only for safety reasons, but also to keep the area developing and modern - but it wouldn’t help someone like me who gets lost easily 😆

Everytime I see backstreets, alleyways and tiny hidden shines I can barely contain my wonder and excitement. One of my most favorite things in the whole world is how Japan builds, so much wonder and fantasy carefully tucked away. I just want to walk around everywhere for days and days, It's just breathtaking

I love how empty Japan gets at night even in Tokyo… This is more surreal than anything other that can happen in this Megacity 🤣😂👍🏻❤️

It's really a testament to Japanese culture and ingenuity that they've managed to keep such beautiful traditional shrines even in the most modern and densely packed of cities. Amazing!

Honestly Japan's night exploration is really stunning with different colourful lights , beautiful old and modern mixed architectural buildings also your camera work is phenomenal and music is just fits the transition you make, hope you do more solo Akihabara vlog .Great work .

Your content is underrated man

When I visited Japan I spent hours walking around at night. It feels so safe. It's often empty and quiet, but there are still plenty of lights. People don't let their dogs out. It's just calm. The bug noise quiets down too.

I really dig that shrine it’s on the list! I’ve missed these little backstreet walkthroughs. Things are good on my end, and hopefully I can make it to Akihabara sooner than later.

Being a bit of a nerd, I like Akihabara. The otaku shops are packed to the gills with Anime, bring your credit card and a big suitcase. 💳. It's so different at nighttime , so quiet. When it's busy it's busy, with lights and sounds, its tourists, maids (from the maid cafes) and hedgehog cafe leaflet hander outers. The shrine, you showed is somewhere I always have a detour (via Don Quixote of course) to when I take someone new to Akihabara. The look on their faces are priceless. I know what you mean to go to places before they close down or buy stuff before the stop selling it. I missed out on the Akibaranger restaurant and buying some final fantasy 7 potions, (my life's greatest regret haha).

I am amazed by the beauty and efficiency of the architecture and marketing of Akihabara. Not one space wasted. And it’s just so gorgeous at night

I have been trying to get out more and enjoy things rather than procrastinating. Having things change like they do over there definitely would be motivating. Thank you so much for your videos! Yours and so of the other Japan KZfaqrs videos really inspire me. Because of someone else can go live in a foreign country then I can too!

I’ve felt something similar to homesickness since I left Japan. It’s strange because I only visited, I didn’t live there. Videos like this are wonderful reminders, but also a little melancholy for me as it will be probably quite a few years still before I am able to return. Thanks Norm. I live in a pretty decent class area in Finland, and I love travelling around at night, it's so soothing and relaxing and just watching this makes me want to travel Japan's buzzling cities at night.

The 1st thing I noticed is that everything looks so clean! Even these small alleyways.

These videos get me more and more excited for my trip to Japan in summer of 2022, I've started learning Japanese and it gets me fired up for all the possibility's that could happened during the trip. Its an educational trip, that last 2 weeks, 11 days of actual time in Japan. The only thing I'm sad about is that I'll never be in one place/city for more then a day, having very little time to experience Japan on my own. But because of that reason, I'm positive I'll come back later in life... when my Japanese is much better and I can make it on my own. Exploring all that I would have missed.

I miss Akiba a lot. My last visit was on Sept 2019 and it is sad knowing that my next visit post covid, a lot will change. Thank you for allowing me to visit Akiba virtually. Besides Akiba, I miss going to Ameyokocho and just walking around Ueno. Nice video.

The contrast between the old shrines and the modern skyscrapers never gets old - prolly one of the many things that draws me into Japan. So surprised you could see the stars!! With all the light that city has, I thought the stars were long gone

This video brought back so many memories from my vacation in Japan back in 2012. I can't count how many times we went exploring Akihabara, especially at night. Seeing all those walkways and side streets made me feel a sudden strong homesickness despite the fact I don't live in Japan. Man, I hope I can return within the world two years, I desperately want to go back. I was SUPPOSED to be going there last year, but I don’t need to explain why THAT didn't happen

such great words, I agree that it's easy to take what's around us for granted. I'm from Las Vegas, one of the great cities that never sleeps. I never thought I'd see the day that it slows down but in 2020 most of the city shut down for months and when it opened back up, only a fraction of businesses survived. so many great views and places that I wish I cherished more

Great memories of Akihabara :) it was the first neighborhood in Tokyo that I visited. Love the shots zooming through the shrine! As to the trifecta squad question: I am now bolstered for the day by this video! Having something fun at the start of the day helps. Hope you're doing well too~

I only explored the Otaku side of Akihabara figurine shops and such so I will have to keep looking around there more. I really love the vibrant and extremely noisy chaos of the place, although I did not check what it is like at night. So much more to find and see :). As for your question I'm doing fine, depression has been getting worse since daylight time is dwindling but I have been getting more and more work after a year and a half of nothing so I am getting back on track in my savings. You could say I'm feeling hopeful for the future in seeing things returning slowly to normal.

I'm going to be studying in Tokyo for about 6 weeks at the end of the year and I've just started bingeing your videos. I've been a few times, but it never feels like enough time but your videos are giving me so many ideas.

Norm, I truly cannot express enough what your videos do for me. When I say that you singlehandedly save me from depression, it's not an exaggeration. Yesterday at work I started to feel the depression creeping back in, I tried to remind myself that I'm doing this for Japan, but I couldn't even feel the excitement of having been in and wanting to be in Japan, I couldn't feel any joy, like there was an invisible wall, and I got really scared because I don't want to fall into another slump again, your video just pulled me out of a depression not even a month or so ago. So I told myself to watch the Akihabara video as soon as I got home, I just knew it would help, and it did. I felt a small twinge of "I want to be there" (which I couldn't seem to feel at work) and that alone keeps me going. As long as I have that feeling the depression doesn't win. Something about your style, the things you showcase and the stories you tell are what give me that longing for Japan, more than any other videos. Sharla's are a close second. I'm very sorry if that is heavy, I just want you to know how much I appreciate you as a person just being out there doing what he loves, it truly helps me. Thank you for sharing Japan with us.

I had the chance to visit tokyo back in 2018 with a couple of friends, we had watched your video that showcased the little hidden shrine as well as other tokyo tuesday videos and they inspired us to dig a little deeper into akihabara and the surrounding area while we bounced between anime and game shops. It's been honestly kind of sad to see what feels like a decline of akihabara over the events of the last few years as hobby/otaku stuff is naturally one of the big pulls and connections a lot of people have with japan, so this is kind of a special place. I really hope I get a chance to see it all again while it's still around. I have the time and money, it just needs to be safe and allowed... Btw, is the dagashi bar still going? That's also a place me and my friends made the effort to go try out thanks to your video on it :)

I always enjoy these nighttime walks. There’s something new every time, literally. Whether it be the vending machines, the buildings, or the signs and posters….it’s like if you blink, you’ll miss it. I find it fascinating how property value increases, yet buildings decrease, whereas I know at least here in Pennsylvania, some buildings are worth more than the area because of their construction or because they were built along a popular road. I’ve seen those places adapt to the times while more modern facilities spring up in between. It’s incredible.

I'm doing great thank you for asking :D I cannot wait to go to Japan and explore all the backstreets in Tokyo that you showed us! It's kind of sad that some places that I wanted to visit like the SAGA arcade or the Nakagin Capsule Tower closed down :( I wish I had more money to travel when I was in Japan in 2019 but travelling from Nagasaki to Tokyo is expensive for a broke student. I'm saving right now and eventually I hope to get a job in Japan :D

I would love to go to Akihabara, my wallet would weep as I'd be tempted to buy ALL of the anime stuff though, haha! I remember when I went to NYC I visited the Nintendo store and bought a GIANT Pokémon plushie, I then had to play tetris with my stuff to get it into my suitcase for the flight back to Toronto lol.

Did they renew those stairs that go up to Kanda shrine? I don't remember them looking like that. And funnily enough, on my first trip to Japan in 2017, Kanda shrine had another traditional looking building in that place where the newer hall building thing is. On my second trip in 2018, that new building stood there and that was my first encounter with Japan replacing old buildings with new ones and I kind of disliked it a lot because it looked so out of place. I've been waiting to go back to Japan since 2019 (goddamn virus!) and I've read so much about how Akihabara has apparently fallen victim to the effects of the pandemic A LOT and that a lot has changed there so I hope I can get back to Japan next year and see it for myself. Might luck out and get onto a working holiday visa right before I am too old for it so I can explore Japan thoroughly before more and more areas (especially in Tokyo) change...

Kanda Myojin Shrine at night was one of the first places I visited after settling into my hotel in my 2017 visit. As you say and show - it is very beautiful after dark.

Oh my goodness a Pokémon card vending machine! The super narrow alleyway leading to the shrine is cool as heck. The other shrine with the city around it is beautiful. And so is that river with the train.

It amazes me how clean the streets and alleys are. I am also mind-blown by how safe it seems. He is worry free wandering through these areas. You could not safely do this alone in any city that I know of in America.
