My fiancee and I have been there twice! The first time, we got in late, but it was about 9 a.m. on day 1 that we decided we'd be going back! Two trips totaling about 15 days and there's still so much to do! But what we have done and would recommend with ALL enthusiasm: 1: Poipu beach (snorkeling is great!) 2: Hike the Sleeping Giant 3: Queens Bath 4: Dukes Restaurant! (I can't believe you missed Dukes!? haha) 5: Snorkeling at Tunnels beach (maze of coral systems that is a world class spot!) 6: Sugar plantation tubing (3 mile tubing down the old irrigation canals!) 7: Anini Beach park ( I know you went, but this was some of the best snorkeling EVER! Guess you have to go back ;) 8: Rainbow Eucalyptus trees at Keahua arboretum. 10: Sunrise in at Gillins Beach. 11: The Fern Grotto 12: Kamokila Village 13: HIking that Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi'ai Beach 14: Kalapaki Beach 15: Kauai Coffee Company 16: McBryde and Allerton Gardens 17: Spouting Horn Park 18: JAVA KAI! 19: Koloa Rum Company There's probably more, but like I said... Just gotta go back! ;)

My wife and I got married on hanalei beach amazing! We loved Kauai so much went back for our honeymoon in July 2016 where we watched the fireworks at Concert In The Sky in Lihu’e! John Cruz preformed that night! Lot of locals less tourists! As far as eating can’t forget Mermaids Cafe in Kapaa! Coconut Thai ice tea! Can’t beat it! Plus the food is off the charts! True Story they ran out of straws so we went to the local store and bought a box of straws for them! They where so thankful! On Kauai we were caught up in the Aloha spirit! We didn’t go to the restaurants tourist went too, we only supported local places even went to church in Kapaa and was greeted with open arms! I’m from Oakland Ca Kaua‘i opened my eyes to a whole other world! Can’t wait to go back!

Preston and Krista, first off, thanks for the video. I’ve lived on Oahu for 30 years. As a traveling surfer me and my friends surfed Kauai because a spot the Kauai surfers thought was crowded had five guys out. We, from Oahu were amazed at the country style there. On Oahu, the same quality surf would have a hundred people in the water. After Hurricane Iniki I was called to help re-build. Kauai was devastated. I met home owners who lacked a roof because it was torn off by the hurricane. Tears, injures, people came together in a way that defines Aloha. Anyway, Kauai is my favorite island. I’ve been to all of them except Ni’ihau of course. (The forbidden island). Kauai was where I spent being guided by locals to secret places. Some of those secrets are out now, but that’s the cost of technology. I clicked on your video because I saw it was about Kauai. I haven’t watched it yet. I jumped into the comments section because I was homesick. Now I’ll watch it. I’m sure you’ll feature the Na’Pali Coast because it’s one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Aloha nui loa. Mahalo.
@PrestonKrista5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. The stories of the beautiful aloha spirit of the locals is truly inspiring and thank you for sharing them with us! As someone who has lived on Hawaii for so long, we hope that we were able to present Kauai in a respectful manner and highlight the majestic beauty you've come to love. If you did manage to watch the video in its entirety we'd love to know your thoughts! Thank you again and Mahalo!

Hey listen guys, I’m real. Thank you for being real too. Nothing in this world is something that can’t be understood on a level we all know. We know that people are all knowing the same thing. Peace and love are all knowing. If you don’t understand that, you are fucked. We, understand that people are all equal. How is it that they don’t get it?

When you travel to these islands and try to get too many things done in a short amount of time.. You lose the sense of what the islands truly are. The vibe from tourists aren't the same as the locals. I have learned to just relax and chill, I am still not at the local level at all, but I am learning. It takes a few days to lose the mindset we bring with us from back home.
@jaxman455 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Although when you get off the plane in Kauai everything kinda just STOPS anyway, you have to learn to stop with it. That takes about a day or so for the mindset to kick in. I'm not there to DO. I'm there to DO nothing. Or, rather, to enjoy the settling affects and flavor Kauai gives off. But, I did like Preston & Krista 's video. I applaud your efforts.
@PrestonKrista5 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with you there, Richard. 🙂 While we didn't spend a lot of time on Kauai, because our first ever trip to the Hawaiian Islands was spread out across 2 weeks, our aim the next time we visit Kauai is to devote more time to relax and try our best to adopt the local vibes for the duration we're there. Like you suggest! Appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and share your thoughts!

Definitely something we can improve for the next time we go back to Kauai and spend more time there! @jaxman45, Thanks for applauding our attempts for our first ever visit to Kauai!

Richard Johnson , you totally get it! Kauai like Maui and Big Isl’ is all about slowing down... Oahu has lost that peacefulness I think but tourists have to step back and get the sense of these islands

Kauai is truly as beautiful as you show in this lovely video. This is clearly very helpful, and presented in a charming way. Since Hawaii is not cheap, it would be of tremendous value to add the "$$$" associated with the activities you do. Doing as many as you did is not for all; and one does not know how many of these are actually out-of-pocket versus sponsored by the businesses you feature. It would be awesome if you gave your viewer a hint of the bottomline impact as well. Again, these are very well made, and kudos to you for that!

A guy jumped from it last year knocked out...only survived because a very brave guy who was at the falls jumped in and dragged him out and then resusated him. Two weeks ago a visitor died after jumping of shipwreck .... Do not do it!
@PrestonKrista5 жыл бұрын
@Kauai_Living -- we agree that cliff-diving in the present or future isn't recommended. We heard and read that ancient Hawaiians used to cliff dive as a feat of strength and test of warrior spirit, but perhaps that was more fiction than fact! Thank you for sharing the correction and aloha from NYC! @Joel Groomes -- thanks for the correction! We kept on hearing and reading varying numbers about Wailua Falls actual height and found that confusing. ;) @Berni Oakes -- Jumping off any high cliff or waterfall is extremely dangerous and something that we ourselves are very wary of doing. It's very unfortunate and sad to hear about the fatality at Shipwreck. We appreciate you for sharing more awareness about the dangers of waterfall and cliff jumping.
@harrymiram66213 жыл бұрын
FYI....Wailua Falls is featured in opening scene of iconic 1970s show "Fantasy Island." Also, as it is over 100-125ft high, DIVING from the Top of the falls is STRONGLY discouraged & NOT recommended!

Another amazing video. Kauai looks brilliant...can't wait to get there, though I might give that precarious looking razor edge hike a miss, as although the views were spectacular, we have our 2 boys with us! We were thinking of a heli ride on Maui but after watching this video we may change it to Kauai. I totally get what people are commenting about embracing the peace and calmness of these islands but when you are spending a bazillion pounds and travelling to practically the other side of the world, you simply don't want to miss anything!! So I also get that you wanted to pack as much in as time permitted!

Hi Gill, visiting Kauai--even for the short duration we did--was a phenomenal experience! If we could, we'd go do a helicopter tour on all the islands (but imagine how pricey that would be!! Maybe one day Lol) We hope you and your family enjoy the Kauai helicopter ride if you decide to do it! We appreciate you understanding why there are merits to the way we tend to travel and jam pack our days with new discoveries, foods, encounters--especially with limited time and monetary resources when visiting a destination far from one's home. We hope you have as peaceful or active trip that befits you and your family's travel style and goals. We'd love to know what you think of Kauai when you get back and what wonderful things you get up to when you're there! Hi Hank65 65 - the helicopter ride was exhilarating, especially with the doors off! Don't recall there being too many bumps when we rode, apart from the one moment we got caught in a brief rainstorm! @@PrestonKrista Sadly, 6 people lost their lives in Kauai in Dec 2019. We were there on the very day this happened. In my view, as exhilarating these rides are, they are dangerous not only because they are helicopters, but also because their maintenance is questionable, and the drive-to-the-bottom-price makes the business cut every possible corner. In the end, the views are like that of an immersive video game. Save money, save yourself. Ditch the tourist helicopter.

Hey Angela - Welcome back from Kauai & we're so glad to hear that you enjoyed the videos! We'd love to know what some of your favorite things were about Kauai and if you visited any places that we didn't get to in our visit. As for more videos from other places, we're learning how to edit using new video software so we have a few more "Favorite Moments in Hawaii" videos to finish, then we have a backlog of US domestic trips we went recently. We're a bit slow with our editing and hope that we can get better so we can share more places we've been to with you soon!! :D

@@PrestonKrista awesome video! Do you think 5 days on Kauai is enough for a family of three to explore the island without being rushed?
@PrestonKrista4 жыл бұрын
Hi @@magnumjohnson9628 , 5 days sounds like a good amount of time to get a flavor of the island and savor your time there without being rushed. There are so many other things we wish we could have done (see the Original Itinerary we had planned listed in the description), so you can use that and what we actually did as a jump off point for some ideas for your 5 day trip. Also, in our opinion, there is really no one way that is right or wrong to visit a new place. As long as you come away from the experience opening your mind and learning about the place you visited and created memories to relish for the future, than that (to us) is a successful trip. Hope this was helpful and wishing you and your family a most wonderful visit to your trip to Kauai! :)

@PrestonKrista5 жыл бұрын
Hi Emma - thank you for checking out our video! It makes us glad to hear that you're happy when others pronounce 'poke' correctly! As for us, it must be growing up with Pokémon that makes saying 'poke' easier. :) Though there are still so many other Hawaiian names and places we've mispronounced, so we're sorry our attempts don't do the beautiful words justice.

I went to Hawaii back in 2002 for a 10 day excursion. The package included Oahu, Maui, & Kuwai but in the end i switched the intinerary to just Oahu and Maui... I regret that decision sometimes as i really want to explore the beauty of Kuwai....i felt it would be nicer to spend more time on just 2 islands... I get the cramming in more activities rather than just picking a couple spots to chill out in....i guess it depends on your individual mindset.... some folks are more dynamic in thier vacationing and love the fast pace (power exploring) while others are fine setting up in a beautiful area and just letting the senses absorb the surroundings at a relaxed pace.... Aloha!!!
@PrestonKrista5 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, Thank you for checking out our video and sharing your thoughts with us! We hope that you do get the opportunity to visit Kauai and get the chance to explore it since you didn't get the chance to on your previous Hawaii excursion. We appreciate you balanced view that there are various styles of visiting and traveling to places and quite honestly like how you phrased "power exploring" as a way to describe what we did in these Hawaii videos. We agree that there merits for also taking things slow and relaxed to absorb ones surroundings and we can definitely improve on that front. Thanks again for watching our video and hope you have a joy-filled day!

For our first ever visit to the state of Hawaii, we only had 2 weeks and decided that for us we would like to get a high level exposure to various islands. Our hope is to return in the future to dedicate more than just the 2-4 days we spent per island and stay longer, and have a more immersive visit to better soak in the magical experiences each island has to offer. @@PrestonKrista when I travel with my family we go to Costco to get their magazine as it has coupons for good discounts from Alamo , hertz or budget . The car is better to be looked on the Internet everyday and hotel as prices change on a daily basis or every few days , when you do serch do it in cognito mode as there is spy wear on regular Google that knows what you are searching for so the prices get put up , hotels all ways ask for better pricing or use triple aaa discount if member , if not ask for different discounts even Costco discount as some hotels do that , ask to get discount or delete maintenance fees as you guys are really not using amenities at your hotel , ask hotel for any coupon discounts for activities even same at car rentals , get a cheaper model to rent as 99 percent of the times you can get free upgrade or hand the guy a $20 and there is your free upgrade for a bigger car , don't get gas at car rental as they will be more get your own gas before returning car back . Sometimes you can stay half hour away as you have a car for cheaper hotel also . Hope that helps
