Considered one of Michigan's most picturesque waterfalls, Agate Falls is located along the middle branch of the Ontonagon River. The falls are created as the river finds its way over an extended shelf of terraced sandstone. The resulting waterfall is a broad band of interlacing cascades and small falls nearly 40 feet high. Visitors can access the observation platform via an accessible foot trail.
At first I thought Bond Falls was the best, but then we stopped at Agate Falls. The view from the old railroad tracks were absolutely stunning! Colors for miles, the sound of the crashing waterfalls and people scarcely nearby. The final views depicted in this video are some that I'll treasure for years to come. When I look back and remember our UP trip, fall color tour, this will be at the forefront of my mind. Lake of the Clouds was beautiful to behold, but once you see that video you'll wish it was as scarce of humans as this place was.
You can't see it well on the footage, but there is a log cabin nestled within the trees far in the distance. What I wouldn't give to have that view for the rest of my life.
