I live in south east Australia. One day while in my office at work I received a wrong number phone call from an Aboriginal stockman on horseback driving a mob of cattle across the Kimberly. He meant to ring the Aboriginal co-op in Fitzroy crossing. I looked up the right number on my computer and gave it to him. Then we had a good chat about our respective jobs and lifestyles. From 1970 until 1994 I worked for AT&T as an International Telephone operator. And the general consensus in our office was that the kindest, most helpful, and sweetest long-distance operators in the world were those in Australia! They addressed us as "luv" and would bend over backwards assisting us to complete our calls 😊 and I'm sorry to say the rudest and least helpful of all long-distance operators we're our very own New York City operators. I'm sure there were exceptions to that rule but again that was the general consensus😢
