Fun Fact ! Scarborough in the 1930s had a Tuna (Tunny) fishing club catching fish up to half a ton in weight. The club was a pub in my youth, full of photos of the monster fish. Then, after the war they disappeared.

2016 was the last time we went to Scarborough. I always enjoyed my trips there, especially the little train in Peasholm Park. We went to Eden Camp near Malton. Well worth a visit.

Yeah they were long and fun summers ! I recall our drive to the lakes to get some Harleys Ulverston Beer from the wood! Good times. Great to hear from you Darren !

Wow that is such a nostalgic piece! Thank you so much for sharing your memories. I had a similar thing happen to me revisiting a place in the Netherlands. It had changed a lot but especially the people. Bitter sweet memories!

You are wrong Teesside Traveller, the Scarborough Open Air theatre has been there since the 1930's. When I was a child in the 60's it used to have Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas every summer. It closed in the mid-seventies after a couple of poor summer seasons, but was revamped & opened again by HM Queen Elizabeth about 2005. Elton John was one of the first acts to perform in it after this renewal. You think of the Naval Warfare, which still goes on, has been around for many decades. They are not toy boats, but have men inside them driving. This is the re-enactment of a second world war type naval engagement, complete with explosive effects, aircraft attacks etc. You failed to get a shot of Scarborough Castle Gate, which is a shame as to slogged all the way up the hill to it yet missed it.

When I was about 3 (1960) I was taken to Scarborough by my grandparents and then every year until I was 13 - We stayed in the same place every year, it was a bed and breakfast run by two spinsters and I loved it. I even remember the house number it was 156 Prospect Place towards the back of Peasholm Park. The open-air baths was my favourite place to go followed by a snack and a bottle of coke at the then Corner Cafe. Of course my Grandparents were on holiday too and they liked to book a couple of shows at one of the two theatres that existed back then. I remember seeing loads of shows over the years from the Black & White Minstrel Show (which wasn't frowned on back then.) Not that I was overly keen on them but I did get to see Morcambe & Wise. Long days on the beach weather permitting, being given a tanner to spend on the slot machines and also seeing the naval battle at Peasholm Park and the island in the middle of the lake all lit up at night with moving mechanical models I think it was called The Tree Walk. I loved it and Scarborough was always my fave place. As I got older Whitby became my fave. I visited Scarborough last September and took my Partner Tina who had barely been out of London where we both live for our sins. I was shocked to see how run down it had become - the outdoor pool was gone replaced by a block of flats. It is awful seeing it like that but I guess it is just nostalgia - Good Video as ever :)

Thanks for the great video, we were last in Scarborough 10 years ago watching Status Quo in Peasholm Park. We stayed at the Grand hotel....hmm yes lovely lol, although I've heard there are some great rooms in there that have balconies.
