Fossil Huntin’ in the Lowcountry!
Finally got the chance to go fossil hunting in South Carolina, which I’ve wanted to do ever since I started collecting. Although we didn’t find a complete angustidens (which was my goal), we still got some pretty nice teeth with some beautiful colors! As always, like, comment, and subscribe. Aurora video coming soon!

Hey man, really appreciate you mentioning the bank digging and not to do it! That's enough to me to extend an invite to you if you're ever in FL. I'll put you on some cool fossils.

Hey, sorry you didn’t get your nice Angi. Most everything you are seeing there in those creeks are spoil piles from other people sifting. You are basically finding what others missed. Due to the growing popularity of the hobby, and Summerville area in particular, finding productive spots in the creeks and ditches is tough. They’re pretty much all ransacked……I have productive spots but I have been here a while and know where to look where others don’t, that’s the only way. Good luck out there on the hunt, keep searching and you’ll find you a spot here in SC

This is not a criticism. I’m late to your videos. Started when you did a video with Wild Kyle. But when you say those big words of yours could you explain what they mean. Those of us that are illiterate in the world of shark teeth, like me, don’t know what you said or how to spell it so we can look it up. I find your videos very interesting. My only experience of hunting for fossils was in 1965. My sixth grade teacher took us to a creek close to the school. I found this ring like object that was a plant and here it was a rock. It’s about an inch long and about ten rings on top of each other. I found five . Kept one and gave the other four away to classmates that didn’t find anything. I still have it with my three arrowheads and my War Between the States lead bullets. All found objects.

Time stamp of 7:18 - that’s a lower jaw Carcharoides catticus, not just a typical sand tiger. By far, the rarest tooth in the bunch. Congrats!

I'm really enjoying all of your videos and looking forward to watching the ones I haven't seen yet. Great finds and love the colors. I do have a question about the orange colored teeth. I actually found about 80 tiny ones on a public beach just north of Calvert Cliffs that we stopped at for about 1.5 hour on the way home after spending a few hours at Matoaka a week and a half ago and some of them are orange. I had never seen that before and actually didn't spot them at first since I was looking for pitch black as I do on the ocean beaches in SC. Do you know how they get that color? They are really cool looking and I'm curious about them.

Great question! The color of shark tooth fossils (and all fossils, in fact) has to do with the composition of the sediment in which the fossil was preserved, which can be highly variable. For example, in the case of Calvert Cliffs, the different layers ("beds") in the cliffs have different compositions, and thus yield teeth with different colors, such as the orange ones you found. So shark tooth fossils can be orange, blue, yellow, and everything in between, depending on the type of sediment they were buried in! Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment. ~HH

@@HoppeHunting thank you for the explanation! I was wondering if it had something to do with the sediment. Sounds similar to the pitch black shells found in NC and even SC, probably other areas as well & I knew that was from the sediment they settled in but wasn't sure about the teeth. I can't wait to get back there and am also planning on hitting some areas along the Potomac. It's so addicting!
