I have come to realize that this video came out at a particularly sensitive time given the recent murder of George Floyd. My heart goes out to the African American community and all of those who have suffered, or know those who have suffered at the hands of police brutality. It has become increasingly clear that we need voices like Denzel's now more than ever.

U are mostly correct but clout cobain is a reference to how rappers sign contracts blindly then get treated like slaves kinda like lil xan if u don’t know search up some videos on lil xan vs label.the song is referencing how the show must go on and how rappers are forced to do things they don’t want to making them rely on drugs so the fans do the same and the rappers get treated like market objects ending with them killing themselves and having more clout for the label to eat up and fans who didn’t care before start caring

Really? 😅 I just envision it's as someone who sell his soul for gain and clout, now dancing to the tune of joy and validation on the surface but deep down its nothing but depression and a dark unfulfilled voids... Then after being drag through it all, unable to bare the emptiness of his soul he went and speed up his dismise. The confusing part for me was vengeance... Also I pretend it's a artists who sell his soul and have to follow the order of the music industry (the clown circus) 🎪 and the artists are Puppets (clowns) 🤡 who must put on an act to rake in that profit but while gaining fortune and fame he he must carry out act that went against his morale and his spiritual ethic such as modifying body, taking destructive drugs, changing pigment, and indulging in lgbtq life

@@VivoZzz not you tryna include "indulging in LGBTQ life" like that's even the point here. Denzel would laugh at your mention of that anyway, not to mention all the generic materalistic rappers are all about the generic masculine shit anyway. donut.

It took me over 2 years to notice how Clout Cobain summarizes the grey part of the album. "Watch these hoes when they say they want a lot of me" is in reference to Super Saiyan which is loaded with sexual imagery. "I don't know who's the one that wants to plot on me" covers Switch it Up, where he discusses his friends turning on him at a moment's notice, as well as Mad I Got It where the final verse is literally someone so jealous of him that they're willing to commit murder. "I stay low so my demons don't acknowledge me" references Sirens which are flying creatures in greek mythology. Finally "when i go i know death don't do apologies" ties these to Clout Cobain, where as a result of distrust of women, his friends, people less fortunate that him who may act on their jealousy, and the entire institution of his country which is designed to prevent him from escaping poverty as an African American, it overwhelms him to the point of considering suicide. This is the point at which he realises that no amount of money or fame can truly allow him to escape from his problems, ie his black balloons, the greatest being the death of his brother. Denzel is my favorite rapper btw and this video was so dope, keep up the great work :)

Just started the video and I already appreciate you looking at the lyrics. I've seen most of the reviews and I always wondered why nobody brought up the dark lyrics. Even though the "Light side" had smooth and feel good lyrics it was like the beat and vocals drowned out the negative lyrics to where people forget about them altogether. The dark lyrics seemed to be looked over just because it was called Light side. I also noticed that the dark lyrics hit at issues that were more societal in nature, while the "Dark side" sounded more aggressive in the lyrics I could argue that the dark lyrics hit less then on here then on the first part looking at them. However vice versa could also be stated with the lyrics on the dark side. I will say that the instrumentation is how Denzel views the world and the lyrics are how Denzel navigates the world around him.

Like you said, it's like they're all missing the point. I'm a little late because I wanted to listen to the album before I watched and I'm glad I did. You lay it out the narrative really effectively and give a pretty sensible interpretation that's cohesive and rock solid. And the visual presentation is next level shit, this video's aesthetic is insanely distinct and on-point from beginning to end and I think seeing editing styles that are this specifically tailored to the subject matter of the topic in question more would be a fantastic thing. As well as just comprehensive analysis videos about albums, it's a woefully underexplored niche and I think that you've just proven that the video essay is an ideal format for it. When I first heard this album, it was hard to piece together the narrative, but I rocked with the sound of this album so much! It’s mix or dark themes with Erie rhythms that still get me moving is facinating. It’s sort of like the musical embodiment of a chaotic end to the world movie, where everything slowly gets worse and crazier, but by the end it leaves you with a protagonist you can latch onto. To put it simply, the world around Denzel is crumbling, but by the end he finds a way to prevail, but leaving you questioning if he’s anywhere what the same person. It’s truly a masterpiece of dark and chaotic storytelling presented in a erotic soundscape that still hits your ears in a way that gets you excited. It hits many emotions, from mellow tracks, to synthy swaying, to high octane bangers, or pure horror core vibes. It’s so dynamic and borderline random at times, but that’s what makes it so interesting. On top of that, the fact there are so many way to interpret every line of this record is a positive to me. It leaves a lot to figure out and piece together, and you may need to listen a few times to get it, but because it sounds so good you really don’t mind. And once you get, it all just clicks. Any part you might have thought were weird or didn’t make sense, now come clear to you. Every time I listen to this album, I find a new thing I live about it. Every beat does a great job at conveying the emotions Denzel wants you to feel. His writing, energy, cadences, flows, and voice inflections change so much, but he makes all of them sound so good and work into the theme of the album. Every feature is so perfectly calculated to whatever song they get on, and always to do their best to step far into the world dense creates. Every. Single, thing. HITS! If it wasn’t clear already, I fucking love this album. Great analysis, you helped clear up some details I missed. I can tell how much of a fan you are and how much breaking down this album meant to you. Great job dude!

Fun fact: On Sirens when he says "The Revolution will not be televised" it’s an interpolation of the first ever "rap" song: The Revolution will not be televised

U also missed how in the chorus for black balloons it says when they pop the pain will stop. And in the end or clout cobain when he kills himself, the balloon pops in the music video. This alludes to the pain will only stop with suicide. Maybe this is due to all of the troubles he talks about on the record. Great analysis tho and easily the best one of I’ve seen

The ending lyrics for vengeance i think could go 3 ways. 1. suicide, he is smiling about loading the bullet and excited to finally end the pain and suffering that he has endured, "gonna catch you" referring to himself that he will catch himself from falling deeper. 2. egodeath, not exactly suicide but silencing himself because of what he said was 'taboo' and shouldn't be talked about since he could be in trouble for it. 3. killing those who have wronged him, his black balloons to finally rid himself of toxicity and evil surrounding him in his life.

In sirenz the line "revolution will not be televised" actually is referring to the poem/song by the same name by Gil Scott-Heron. The poem's main message is essentially that the revolution won't be something you can watch on the television, because black people will be in the street looking for a brighter day. this further links with the idea's in vengeance of a violent revolution being the only viable option in denzels eyes
