THE OLD BYRD FARM

THE OLD BYRD FARM

Ай бұрын

On this video, I'm excited to share that Hisea has once again sponsored us, this time with a pair of their waterproof muck boots! To put these boots to the test, I head out to explore the old swampy area on the Old Byrd Farm.
This swamp used to be a thriving beaver pond, and behind it was a lake. Now, it's mostly a small creek flowing through, but it's still a fascinating place to explore. We look for artifacts, uncover some interesting finds, and take a close look at the large broken dam that used to hold the lake. Join me on this adventure as we dive into the history and natural beauty of this unique part of the farm.

Great video. When you finish the house and taming the land, it would be good to open the creek so it flows uninterrupted. Then you could sit back and do some fishing.

Creek and stream exploration are vital to the development of every child in the rural south. Also, the ability to deny, with a straight face, that you've been to or in the river. The blackberry scratches and stains and bright red wading lines where you really didn't go under water were a dead give away. But a gift of same blackberries, carefully toted in the tummy of your t- shirt, might- just might get you out of trouble. But only if there were enough for a cobbler.

Do you think that maybe in the future you will repair the dam and recreat the lake, if you do what would you need to do? House and land repair is the main projects, everything else is the icing on the cake.

Copperheadedrattlemoccasins, LOL! Only you Robert. Really swampy, there has to be springs there. I was thinking PigBoy! Good looking Hisea boots! A stellar rating too. Do we get a glimpse of the garden? So much planted and how is it doing? Peaches, cotton, long leaf pines, sunflowers, zinnas and veggies. Did the clover sprout yet? And you are the 8th wonder of Waverly Hall. You made me nervous expecting all sorts of things to jump out, then quicksand! Sheesh!! ❤❤👍👍

Well,if you could just sing a little Man of Constant Sorrows, you could be an official Soggy Bottom Boy now. I love them, too. Some mighty fine boots, too. Do you any ideas or plans for "the swamp" to work on sometime in the future? (Even if that is some gears from now) I'd love to see some metal detecting and excavation, unless you dont want to. Or are too busy. This must be your busiest time of the year. Thank you in keeping us well fed with videos. Was the swamp the farm garbage dump? Or is all that tile and such filler for the dam? Sorry lots of questions. Thanks again for the good videos on bith channels.

So Robert led us on another fun adventure! Counting coppermouths (50) and ticks (51) while wading and mucking through a creek checking the beaver dams. While following him along the creek and admiring the empty bottle of hot sauce (the only treasure the creek gave up), I sat comfortably in my cozy recliner watching the deer idly grazing in the backyard. Life is good!!

Here in the NJ Pine Barrens, in any open bog in the woods (and on some roadsides) there won't be any grass. Instead there are Pitcher Plants, Sundews, and various rare orchids. In a tiny town called Greenwich (pronounced Green-witch) in our Cumberland County there is an entire museum of arrowheads and other indian artifacts. I think it all came from one man's collection. Very interesting creek and dam out there. When approximately was that dam built? Maybe tomorrow I'll post some pictures in the fan group, of a massive dam and spillway in Millville, NJ.

Looks like some great boots! Wow I wonder if all that twigs n such were moved back would your property grain better and be dry? Actually I know when creeks get stopped up by branches and logs and muck, the water overflows and the area becomes a huge swamp, bog and thinking about your property now looking at the waterways , why your property is always boggy make sense. if you find the main creek and get it cleared and move all those loose branches the water should go back to where it is supposed to be and the area will be less boggy and more dry. Wow so many weeds in that area! a tractor won't be able to get back there I don't think, might have to weed whack a lot.
