If you run through Austin, stop at La Barbeque food truck. Get yourself some of the best brisket you’ll ever have, and the wait isn’t too bad.

You can't see it all, this place is just too BIG! How much time do you have an what sort of trip are you planning? If you have the time and want to really see America it's tough to beat a Route 66 trip.

I've done my share of touring my home state of Texas also but now it's even more interesting watching your videos. Having traveled over to Europe , it's interesting to contrast that continent to ours. In Europe you'll see cities and towns that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years but in America you can see where an entire Era has come and gone within a single generation. Also, it's amazing how time erodes everything so fast and just how transitory life really is. Your videos evoke many thought and emotions and that's what I like about them. You show these old towns that are dead and in disrepair and enjoy the Nostalgia of it all. I , on the other hand think to myself, damn, I don't have that much more time left on the planet. I remember the first times I strolled out into the streets of Paris where much had hardly changed since the days of Napoleon. The was a sense of eternity about the whole place knowing that you were strutting atop cobblestones that had been there for hundreds and hundreds of years. Life felt never ending. However , when you show us all these glimpses of the American backroads my feeling are like the ones expressed by Shakespeare : To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more. It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing. Macbeth Act 5, scene 5, 19-28 And as I'm sitting here watching this video and taking inventory of my entire life , I ask the question - Did I really control life or did life control me ?

Those are not "oil rigs", those are "pump jacks", an oil rig drills the well, a pumpjack pumps the oil from the ground.

I could be wrong but I believe that it was just his wife that was from there. I know Lane was born in CO but lived most of his early life in Utah. Then he came to Oklahoma where he met his friend and idol Frecles Brown. They are buried very near each other in Hugo, Oklahoma.

At the outdoor theatre, when I was little in the 50s, we did bring our own popcorn and cold drinks from home! Just loaded a cooler in the trunk and filled large plastic bags with popcorn. Paid no attention to the signs! Concession stands were too expensive back then, too.

My wife was born in Chillicothe, TX. Her great grandfather was there to help establish the community in 1883. Her grandfather helped build the Methodist Church and is named in the church corner stone. Thanks for the journey.

2:34 The birds congregating in the trees are a very common sight and sound here in Texas. Known as the Great Tailed Grackle, the name derives from a Comanche phrase meaning "I need oil" or "please lubricate me", referring to their annoying raspy grating screech. They are rarely seen (or heard) in groups of less than 500.

How come you never come to Northern New Mexico? Taos, the Gorge, Four Corners, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. There is a lot you miss because you're always going south of Albuquerque.

I LOVED the Cumbres&Toltec Scenic train. I was so beautiful up there. I grew up in Carlsbad but live in West Texas now, I was a nice escape to somewhere green. I made the same comment on the New Mexico post, to go north lol :)

my grandfather was born in Gould Oklahoma in 1908, then with in a few years moved to Quanah and grew up there, its been a long time since ive see the place, wow brings back memories

Two things I learned from my days working in rural Texas.... always have a very good road map or a GPS and never pass a gas station that's open if you are below half a tank. Oh, and never assume there is even going to be a gas station in the next town ahead. And another thing... watch out for the snakes, fire ants, killer bees, attacking armadillos, stink bugs, torrential downpours, hail, tornados, heat, cactus, more snakes, more bugs and even more heat.

I'm 71, I still remember when things were much simpler, slower, than came Vietnam, that's when it went in to high gear over drive...…& it hasn't slowed down sense. …. went to wood-stock with some friends,, an hour drive. I had just ETS out of the Army, talk about a traffic jam. Do stop to reflect on the LORD. day of rest. My guess you know the word of GOD front wards and backwards.
