The Karakoram Highway is a 1,300 km highway which extends from the Punjab province of Pakistan to the Khunjerab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China and becomes China National Highway 314.

There are tour operators in Kashgar that will arrange a day trip to the Karakoram Highway and the Lake. If you not a Chinese citizen you can not rent a car as far as I know.

@@hudekphoto I have to apply for a permit to go to Karakul Lake. Will the car have to be rent from the tour operator?
