This project explored the use and value of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in transportation. Researchers used a multi-pronged approach that included a literature review, workshop, survey, the development of three prototype ML models for four high-priority use cases, and field testing of a prototype model. Initial tasks were exploratory in nature and led to a better understanding of the current and prospective uses of ML in transportation, corresponding data needs, and specific use cases of interest to TxDOT.
