where are the people walking around enjoying their livability? what is the point of a city if it's just built for cars to drive through it...

The section of highway I frequently travel on had a surface prep featuring grooves perpendicular to the direction of travel, which allowed drainage to the shoulder and some additional traction, especially in a braking situation. A few years ago this section was resurfaced, with the grooves now being parallel to the direction of travel. They now hold water and I have personally narrowly escaped 4, maybe 5 if i wanna be picky, near misses from a small car hydroplaning while traveling at speed, as if they quickly yanked their steering wheel. We know they didn't. It had rained, it was not raining anymore but the water could not drain like it used to before the resurfacing. The resurfacing is very reflective too, almost as if the pavement was semi polished. This is very bad on evening drives after a rain where the sun is coming back out. With the water not draining, the semi shiny surface, you cannot see a thing! This is very dangerous. Yep, that semi polished surface is a heck of a lot more slick, esp in wet conditions. This particular stretch of highway Im talking about is one I know very well. Ive seen it grow from just asphalt with a large grass median for future expansion, to getting that expansion, to the community growth it spurred, etc. But now a days I can almost guarantee you and everyone above you on your org chart, that there is a wreck EVERYTIME it rains now. What where yall thinking? I wish I could see the minutes from those design reviews. It would probably be embarrassing to the dot i bet. I mean, what justification was used to go with this resurfacing? Did yall even do a study on the effects of such a change to drainage AND traction available from a shiny new surface? Yall messed up here. Bad.

Sometimes all you can do is slow down. Sometimes it’s impossible to move over because there’s 50 cars doing 90 miles an hour in the left lane.

What a waste. Not a single resident wants this at all. Texas is such a hilariously backward state in every sociopolitical way, but hey we build bigass highways durrrrrr

What a waste of money.... there are a lot more projects that need to be completed before this. Also if there is no enforcement then the lanes will be full of non-HOV vehicles during peak times.

Jamie, we are sharing your message with our youth at Fort Worth Teen Court to show the real consequences of distracted driving. Thank you for so bravely sharing your painful story. It WILL save a life.

The real purpose is to invest into this toll to make billions and anyone that doesn’t like can leave. The better option is to A: build a transit train shuttle from Galveston island to the Conroe. and B: Build a stack Highway on I 45 that would allow 10 plus lanes each going North and South.

Why wouldnt they build this below Dickinson where it is less populated?? Plus they could make the drop off even closer to Galveston where the majority of these drivers will be going…

My brother killed people in Afghanistan but later came back and became a fire fighter after. He still gets choked up by doing chess compressions on a girl that was hit by a distracted driver. He's fine talking about war but that broke him that day

Where is the analysis of the potential decrease in regional population due to increasingly hot and dry weather? Will all this traffic continue, if the region becomes uninhabitable during the very period when construction is contemplated? Please consider bolstering efforts to sequester heat-causing carbon from the atmosphere through improved soil health and regenerative agricultural practices that also cool the regional weather. The hydrology of the region must somehow be expanded, not depleted. Please consider doing something to enhance the capacity of the wetlands, not put them in jeopardy!

Good. Oklahoma already pulled it off and Kansas is working on it. It should be a 4 lane divided highway at least from Tucumcari to Wichita, ideally up to Interstate highway standards at some point.

Hello there. I live right across from cougar park. This would affect my familys safety. Cars speed as it is on Socorro road. Multiple cars have broken down and ran into my property. This would directly be affecting my family.

No no no. We don’t need a HIGHWAY IN A NEIGHBORHOOD! You’re displacing a whole neighborhood and a WHOLE WILDLIFE PARK!!

I ageee. I live across cougar park. This would directly be affecting my family. As it is in the last year 3 vehicles have broken down/crashed coming out of the curve after cougar park and crashed in my front property. I fear this would directly be affecting everything in the area including wildlife

We have enough cement, infrastructure, and roads all over the city already. By having a piece of what we originally are nature, we can continue to connect with nature in a deeper level and have a deep understanding of where we come from and how everything works. This area is perfect for understanding how our earth is changing and how climate change is affecting the planet that we live in. This is important because by learning more about it, we better understand how it affects all of us all living things on this earth. It has been proven that nature can help reduce stress and bring feelings of joy therefore, it is important to have such an attraction in the city of El Paso for its residence to enjoy. I strongly believe that a location like Rio Bosque wetlands can also bring tourist into our city, which is a benefit for other businesses. We need to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves, the innocent, the vulnerable; we are their voice they depends on us. We must protect the many species that inhabit Rio Bosque wetlands, otherwise you will be destroying many homes and many families of wildlife. Let’s not forget a lot of migrating birds stop there for water. Because we are in a desert, water is not easy to find. How would you feel if you were traveling along distance and had no water to drink ? think of that for a minute.. lot of these animals are sentient that means they feel and they know. This is also a great space for El Paso residents to get exercise, as it is El Paso does not have many attractions. This is one of the most beautiful attractions that one can enjoy living here. Please take into consideration all the lives that are going to be hurt by this both wildlife and human. As the selfish humans that we are, for once let’s think of other living beings instead of ourselves, the way we usually do. God bless, whoever is making this decision with the right decision, the ethical decision. We can help our planet and give back to it, protect it, take care of it and respect it, or we can continue to destroy the way we have been which has led us NO WHERE GOOD!
