i was ten. got my first yo-yo with the expo '86 logo, my brother (13) got his first Swatch from the swiss pavillion; it rained every night, but we still watched the laser light shows; didn't have a clue what was going on, but it was so much fun anyway

I went to Expo 86 three times, I rode the Scream Machine three times in one day, the average wait in line was 2 hours, so around 6 hours standing in line and 6 minutes total riding the coaster. It was worth it. My dad helped install the motors & cables for the two SkyRides, those gondolas in front of Science World and the other side of the Cambie Street Bridge, he got us free passes to the opening day ceremonies, I was somewhere around when Chuck & Di were, I saw them on their boat from the McBarge, a McDonalds on a big boat, didn't see me or anyone I know in the video though.

I was 22 and attended the fair with my folks in June of that year. I recall the theme was based on how transportation technology had advanced. We went through the queue for the monorail and before we were ready to board it broke down. So we walked around more and ended up leaving the grounds and got lost. We took the train to circle back to the expo and it ended up breaking down inside a tunnel. The train was packed with commuters and visitors. I quickly learned claustrophobia was a real thing and told my parents it’s best we exit off. Suffice to say, it took us a long time to return back to the fair’s main entrance. Not a fun experience. So much for the advancement of transportation! But, a group of cute guys drenched with cold water coming off the Log Flume asked me if I wanted to ride with them. I think they saw me watching the ride with scrutiny wondering if I should brave it getting soaked in frigid water on a chilly day. My mom found it humorous but I turned them down as I had never been on a Log Flume that had such steep drops that gets you completely drenched.

I was 17 and I rocked and swung one skytran cart like a school bell to almost 90* from level, what I didn't notice was it also swung the next 3 trans 1/2 as much down the line, scaring the bejezuses out of the old people ahead of, and behind me. They pointed at me as I came into the next station and said... THAT'S HIM, HE'S THE ONE!!! The security detained me until the angry old people were gone. They ended up giving Expo86 trinkets, and a few free tickets to a few upcoming events. But did tell me not to do that again, because getting a tran unstuck from the safety catch track would have taken hours to get the thing going again.

Ohh man this takes me back!!! I was a 10yr old boy from Ontario spending my summer of 86 with family in Vancouver and I was completely floored at how awesome EXPO was! I wish it was a permanent attraction because I would love to go back! My family had a copy of this VHS tape but they lent it to someone many many years ago and we never got it back. So happy to see it again, thank you for uploading it!!!! Now I need to show some friends what I got to witness!

Thank you so much for uploading this! I was born in 2000, but my parents were at Expo ‘86 and had the VHS tape. I used to watch it a lot in my middle school years and loved it! My generation seems to love things from the ‘80s lol. I often think about this video but I have no idea where it is now and I don’t even know if our VCR works anymore lol. So thanks again! Ps. We’re from the other Vancouver (Vancouver, Washington).

All thanks to Jim Pattison the founder of the whole show, every night there was fireworks night after night after night!!! I was only 16 i remember the flooting Mcdonald's restaurant in false creek just beside the granville bridge. Oh god those where the days. Today is just not the same. Today is like nothing but slaves and cellphone zombies and nobody looks at you unless your super good looking, and the ones looking at you are the ugly ones that don't diserve to look at you!!!🤪

Tracking Diana as a Pedicab driver during their visit was my top priority. I saw her twice and made eye contact with her twice. Both times on my Pedicab positioned in a strategic spot that would be close enough to hopefully catch her eye. Once as they exited the Orpheum Theatre from the Seymour St doors and once in passing on Hornby St as the motorcade passed by. Oddly enough the security was present but nowhere near what it would be in todays world. I remember seeing her up close like it was yesterday and she was every bit as fascinating in person as one could ever hope her to be. Radiant and powerful yet shy and vulnerable at the same time. Can't say enough about the experiences. I've seen and met many celebrities working for years at GM Place (Now Rogers Arena) and I was only ever starstruck by two people: HRH Diana, and one Ms. K.D. Lang. Ah, and how the years fly by...

Brought back memories and interesting how it doesn’t seem so dated. Big difference between the 70s and 80s, but not so much the 80s and 21st century. I was 21 and had a seasons pass, but regrettably didn’t use it much. I remember we were offered it at work via payroll deduction each payday and it cost $100, which was a lot of money back then.

The Pied Piper kidnapped children and led them into the forest to be eaten by the rats because the villagers didn't pay him for getting rid of the rats. Danny Kaye should have picked a better character for International Children's Day than a kidnapper and mass murderer of children.
