Attended Expo for my 21st birthday...5 years later moved to Vancouver and the rest is history.

I am glad I missed Expo 86. It was the beginning of the great Sino Tsunami, and the beginning of the major decline in Vancouver (are these two related in a causal relationship). Now we have endemic homelessness caused by the demolition of boarding houses, unafordable domestic real estate prices, and a drug overdose crisis. The latest gift from this group has been COVID 19. Vancouver's film industry now has the perfect location to set a series of dystopian movies. Vancouver is now a dead city and nothing compared to the city I grew up in.

Love Hate with Expo 86. Born and raised in Vancouver.....still living here. Seen the change for the worse. Vancouver has no soul anymore....expensive money hungry machine now. Expo was the beginning of the end of the Beautiful City known as Vancouver.

Some called it progress, but as a native born Vancouverite the city was never the same. I liked it before Expo. 86.

I still have many great memories of my visit to the expo in July of 1986 :)

Thank you!! I bought this video in Beta in the 80s, then got it transferred to VHS in the 90s and now...I was facing getting it in DVD.

Depressingly cloudy in nearly every frame. World class city? lol

We invited the world... they came, they saw... THEY BOUGHT! Expo '86 TRANSPOrted Vancouver onto the world stage. It's marvellous to travel the world and have virtually everyone you meet say they want to visit Vancouver one day.

Bad memories. I remember getting heat stroke & food poisoned at Expo 86. I threw up 4x 1. The Canadian Pavilion while watching a short film. 2. Outside on the back of a guys leg walking in front of me. 3. Into a toilet in a public washroom. 4. Inside a sink at an Expo first-aid/hospital tent.

I just saw myself in this video at about 2:04/ 2:05. I had a pass and was there alot that summer.

Can you tell me if this video is now in the public domain? If so, i would like to use segments to go with a song I co-wrote for Vancouver's 1986 Centennial Contest. Our entry made the final around but was not the winner, but I still like it all these years later.
