There is an entry fee but Expo West is a private event and not open to the public, it's for a specific type of business person. This is from their website: "Natural Products Expo is a private trade show open to the trade only, and not open to the public. Individuals who cannot document their direct, professional affiliation to the trade are not qualified to attend the trade show." So like doctors, nurses, dieticians, people who own grocery stores, pharmacies, chefs, pretty much anyone who can prove that they are the right audience and can potentially be vendors/carry the natural products presented at the expo can register. The goal of the companies presenting is to get contracts with (for example) grocery stores to carry their products. So when someone is able to register and get in, ALL the food/product samples are completely free. I was able to go for 3 years bcuz I was associated with a vendor who carried these kinds of products at their store. I came home every time with hundreds of dollars of free products, it was a really fun time in my life with very nice people! :)
