Most people assume that the Gospel is about making a decision and getting into Heaven. There is a clearer way to understand the Gospel, when it calls us to salvation, it calls us to discipleship as well. The Gospel leads to making disciples. No exceptions. No Excuses.

The problem is the over-planning! All strategy and no action leaves the mission unfulfilled. It doesn’t matter how many key words or charts you use.

Church leaders today are all about Marketing and not about Discipleship. I have never been to a church that teaches Discipleship. So glad to hear this message. How am I doing loving those in my life where I am? Always be where you are.

Called to discipleship. Thats right. Now that churches closed, step up and lead. Its a new day. Home church is the base, work place is the field. And may the daily walk be a reflection to others of Gods love toward others.

Great stuff Pastor Bill!! I have often found myself in the circular pattern of preaching gospel while skipping discipleship, or building relationships outside the gospel, when we align those two....then we have Gospel Discipleship!!! Great message!

Well said, Bill! Yep, pretty much impossible to disciple those who have not yet decided to actually follow Jesus. I think this goes a long way towards explaining a lot of pastoral and church leadership burnout.

I'm just amazed to see even 3 people could click dislike on this. This is incredibly helpful and so well stated and defended. I can't imagine any Christians not liking this. I can't imagine atheists/agnostics wanting to take the time to look at this. So I'm left with the idea that the only people who wouldn't like this are those who are in love with the "cheap grace gospel". Great work here Bill - thank you!

wow good perspective, very simple and visual. the problem is there are hundreds of one another commands and when you're living in and among a church system that emphasizes the wrong model you will be frustrated, isolated or persecuted. Another problem if you've never been loved very well or consistently, you wont know how to love, if you dont have models to disciple you, you will fumble. God intends for those who are examples of maturity to be leading the charge as role models. sadly people are busy with non christians and assuming that christians have jesus so they have all they need. though a simple video helps......the reality is the christian life is very complicated.....and most churches focus only on the verticle relationship with God and NOT on the complexity of ONE ANOTHER LIFE.

I agree life is complex but I don't think Christian living is complex. I feel like pastors and church leaders make it out to be complex because they want to keep entertaining the audience or they adlib the gospel message. The biggest problem with pastors and preachers is that they always divert from the scripture and convolute the gospel with strange ideas that aren't in scripture just so to make their message stand out or to be more interesting. But I like what Bill is doing here. Start with your family and friends. We already know how to love them as the world loves. But now let us love them as Christians should love. More church leaders need to stop with the complexities and teach simple truths about how to reach those we love - friends and family. And doing so, should help foster mature Christians in the church who understand the gospel and not afraid to speak to others because it is too complicated. But also, we as laypeople need to be bold and step up to voice our opinions and concerns with growing and maturing as a Christian. Most church leaders are either not qualified or there for the wrong reasons. In small churches, it is the loudest and most popular who get a voice. In larger churches, they don't listen to anyone unless they have seminary degrees. It is tough these days trying to reach people within the church much less those outside the church. We as a church are indeed in a sad state where we don't have enough mature Christians leading the way as role models. There are many more false teachers and those who don't know scripture but are just loud mouths so to speak. But there is hope still.

Good points but to do all that we need the Holy Spirit. Christ said outside of me you can do nothing, He is the vine we are just one of the branches.

It’s funny that anyone ever refers to themselves as a former pastor… I wonder what the Lord thinks of this. Discipleship is really at its core a system of getting people to do what you want them to do. There is no idea in scripture of individualized “discipleship”. The “command” Jesus gave that is popularly and erroneously called “the great commission” is really a fulfillment of Micah and Isaiah when the gospel would go out into the nations. This “commission” is found in the parallel gospels and is expressed as preaching the gospel. Paul never speaks of discipleship. He never commands it. Never gives instruction for it. Never asks the Corinthians why they aren’t being discipled. Never mentions making or multiplying disciples. “Go and disciple the nations” is about teaching the nations (outside of Israel) the good news.

The Great Commission has nothing to do with the Body of Christ. Today we are saved upon believing that Christ died for our sins, that he was buried, and that he was raised from the dead. Upon believing, we are also sealed with the Holy Spirit and made members of the body of Christ. The Apostles did preach Christ's Second Coming to Israel during the early Acts period, but with the Jews rejection of Jesus as Messiah, God unveiled the mystery of the body of Christ to Paul and only him. Now, the body of Christ only grows as each part does its work.

Discipleship amounts to accountability. Teaching and accountability. If there's no accountability among every member you might as well just forget it. So whether she goes or not is irrelevant.. what's relevant is you know what she's been doing and you're pretending not to know. You are the problem. And that's not According to Marc. That's according to first Corinthians, Romans.. according to decent and healthy New Testament theology. When you pretend there's nothing you can do you're the problem. No amount of getting her to go to a service of a light diet of spoon feeding will ever help.
