60 here! I heard this play in a night club in L.A in 1985 and I bought the cassette album. Fortunately, the earlier releases of this album contained this original version because later versions had the re-recorded version. This one has a mesmerizing coolness to it and more variety with the synth and guitar breakdowns as well as the long 5+ minutes length. It is still my favorite freestyle song from way back then! 😊

That comment hit me like a brick except for the 80's part because for me, that was 2010.

Yeah I noticed that too when I got the Exposure album, that it had the original version that I remembered from '85 but shortened, but the version they played on the radio was a slightly different one with the new girls. Exposed To Love was the same situation.

You have a rare version, the first pressing according to the group's creator, the first 125,000 copies sold ( the very first pressing numbers) this was an error, but exposed to love was intentional the group was transitioned fast, that a re recording had to happen fast, but the vocals of the original trio was still there but they were uncredited, Until a 2015 remastered expanded deluxe edition was released in the UK, which is ironic cos the UK was a bad market for them unlike the US.

Not sure if it was Point of No Return or Expose to Love that it should have been Sandee singing the lead vocals but Sandee was running late to the studio recording and Alejandra Lorenzo, Ale, ended up singing the lead part. Nevertheless, the song sounds amazing!!

There was an original '84 version (considered an "underground" club track I'd say), this '85 version, which I remember best and first of the three '84/'85/'87, 19yo me first going out to a gay club Scorpio in Charlotte N.C. in '85, and like you, I never heard any radio play of the song until '87, so this '85 version seemed at the time still an underground gay-bar exclusive club track, as many epic 12" club tracks did then that you NEVER heard any radio play of...then in '87 was the revised version on the radio all the time of mainstream, and we were like "Wow, this was underground for us at Scorpio 2 years ago", so this '85, and this being the one we knew, it's always been my favorite, and it channels/takes me back to the aura and the vibe of discovering a whole new world of a massive 2-level gay bar of a new and different weekend life consisting of exclusive underground club tracks. But this then on Arista label in '85, probably a dance track in str8 clubs too in '85, but us only going to gay bars by then, still feels underground gay exclusive to me. Then there's the '87 you recall 1st, as most ppl do, and it felt mainstream and late and remade for mass appeal radio play...and still a great song, but the exclusive aura and love of this one was missing. Thrilled to find it, takes you right back in time like yesterday.

Sandra "Sandeé" Casañas isn't on this recording. Producer Lewis Martineé had Sandeé scheduled to sing the Lead Vocal but she failed to make it to the session! Martineé then asked his then girlfriend Alejandra "Alé" Lorenzo to sing the Lead Vocal and she did a great job! Alejandra avoids those boring, overused clichéd "Soul" Inflections that Gloria Estefan, Thelma Houston and Janette Jurado use. Janette Jurado shouts out "Hey Hey Hey Yeah" ad nauseum in her 1987 remixed version! What were they thinking redoing it?! I'm just glad they didn't redo "Exposed To Love" which Alejandra also sings the Lead Vocal on! Sadly, Alejandra quit the group while they were recording the Exposure album. Alejandra and Laurie Miller are on all the tracks on the Exposure album singing backing vocals so is Sandeé Casañas but to a lesser extent. The singers on this version of "Point Of No Return" are ~ Alejandra "Alé" Lorenzo ~ Lead Vocal Laurie Miller ~ Backing Vocal Froilan Sosa ~ Backing Vocal😢
