naruto is the only series that makes me this unhinged about shipping, i swear it gave me permanent brain rot. i am sorry in advance for the long ass essay i'm about to dump in the comments. from the canon couples: - shikatema and minakushi are so well done, chef's kiss - i agree that inosai and choji/karui are kind of out of nowhere, but i don't mind them together on naruhina and sasusaku, the category of its own: - naruhina is a ship i could see being done better, if they had more development. i thought kishimoto was cooking in part one with the naruto vs. neji fight (which i read as naruto being offended both on his own and hinata's behalf). i thought this could be developed further, but then nothing happened until hinata's confession in part 2, which naruto completely ignored?? and even neji's death, which only happened for their development, didn't do anything, bc canonically naruto still liked sakura in the war arc. i refuse to acknowledge the atrocity that is the movie as canon bc of how it shits on naruto's character, and i hate what they did to naruto in the epilogue/gaiden/boruto (absentee father????? really????? after he grew up alone, unloved and shunned???????? real naruto would NEVER neglect his kids for PAPERWORK). also hinata as a character needs to be developed beyond liking naruto, she needs to be an actual person and not just one-dimensional love interest if frankly any ship with hinata is to work. - sasusaku is very close to being my NOTP. i dislike it more than i dislike naruhina. there are ways to make it better, less toxic, but even if sasuke genuinely showed sakura love and treated her the way sakura deserves, it would still come off as quite out of character for sasuke. plus sakura growing out of her love for sasuke and recognizing her worth would be such a powerful narrative for her and it would nicely complement her arc about overcoming her insecurity and becoming strong. though i love sarada and i want her to exist, so maybe sakura divorces sasuke after he bails on them and fails to be a husband and a father. - it's tragic that the only ships i actively dislike became canon and i kind of feel for the fans of those ships. i like sasunaru and narusaku and if kishi made one of those ships canon and wrote it like he wrote nh or ss, i would feel betrayed. my ship canon, but at what cost... my "should have been canon" category: - narusaku - makes much more sense. naruto and sakura's friendship growing into something more and both realizing that their feelings deepend is THE SHIT. also the parallels to minakushi???? kishi gave us sakura's love confession, which could have been an interesting development in their relationship, and then took it away two panels later. i wish it was written as in "sakura realized naruto will let himself get destroyed trying to bring back sasuke and this made her realize her own feelings for naruto" - nejiten - i honestly thought they'd get together - jiraiya/tsunade - i am not the biggest fan of jiraiya as a character but the scene they shared before jiraiya left to the rain village was quite touching. if only jiraiya wasn't a giant creep about women - sasuke/therapy - this is a prerequisite to any other sasuke ship down the line - shinobi system in konoha/revolution - naruto talked a big talk about breaking the cycle of hatred but then he continues the status quo as the hokage??? even though there's peace time, they still allow KIDS to become shinobi (CHILD SOLDIERS). or the truth of the uchiha massacre is still kept secret for some reason??? honestly disappointing non-canon ships i like but never expected to become canon: - sasunaru - it is insane to me how much chemistry and potential they had. literal soulmates, the sun and moon symbolism?? naruto going apeshit for sasuke during the entire run of manga. sasuke at the end wanting to kill naruto because the bond he has with naruto is the only thing that keeps him from fully succumbing to the darkness. the aftermath of their final fight. and obviously for this relationship to work requires therapy for both naruto and sasuke so that they don't become the toxic codependent couple. and naruto needs to dismantle the current shinobi system if sasuke is to stay in konoha with naruto (i hate how sasuke fucking off somewhere else makes him a terrible husband and a father in canon - especially after he lost his entire clan you'd think his new family would be important to him - but it's entirely in character for him to not want to be anywhere near konoha). though i would also be content with both naruto and sasuke leaving konoha and travelling the world together (even if naruto giving up on being the hokage would be pretty anticlimactic). i don't think there's any other ship (from any fandom) i'm as unhinged about as sasunaru, honestly. - polyamorous team 7 - either with romantic sasunaru/narusaku + platonic sasusaku, or all three ships being romantic at once could work for me. this is the only version of sasusaku i don't mind, and that's because their dynamic would be very different here, none of that cold demeanor from sasuke and ignoring sakura/fucking off somewhere else for months or years at a time. - inosaku - them chasing after sasuke gives compulsory heterosexuality / "i mistook the target of my jealousy because i didn't know girls liking other girls was a thing" to me - sakukarin - this is kind of crack ship but post canon sakura and karin saying fuck you to sasuke for treating them like shit and bonding over that, which grows into friendship that develops further over time? good stuff - kakairu + being parental figures naruto

Popularity destroyed the chemistries around the characters and like they say “ friendship turns into love.” Kishimoto is implying that Sasuke and Sakura are not having happy married life. He almost lost a family because of this and his wife wanted Naruto to be with Sakura. Hinata was more popular than Sakura in other countries.

I adore most of these pairings honestly, especially given the utter disaster that is the actual Naruto romance I hardcore ship Lee and Sakura and they have multiple kids in my interpretation. Their oldest is a girl they name Kanon (which is a type of flower in Japanese) and she eventually becomes the next tsunade with all types of kick ass. Long Pink hair in a brad and black eyes with Lee's skin tone and Sakura's features. Maybe even slightly fuller eyebrows. Metal Lee is born their son and he shares Sakura's green eyes and shy demeanor (at least when she was young). And their youngest two are twins Tsubaki and Ume, both with green eyes and pink hair. They're identical except Tsubaki has a lighter shade of pink hair than Ume. Both are mischievous little gremlins and troublemakers.

for NaruHina here is the issue most of Boruto heavily tilted to been seen from Boruto's perspective I think the best way to judge how the relationship is considering Naruto before he was Hokage that we see a snipit in at the end of Naruto the Last and the OVA The Day Naruto Becomes Hokage and Boruto to be fair, because it seemed like before Naruto became Hokage he had the best home family dynamic but when he became Hokage be became over worked, now the common complaint I see is "Why dose Naruto not use Shadow clones to do his paperwork." shows they forgot what Naruto said on chapter 2 of OG Naruto "their is no shortcut to being Hokage." and while Naruto using shadow clones at Himawari's birthday is inexcusable you also have to consider, Naruto practically raised himself he did not have any older man to look at to see how to balance work and life so he is doing his best

Except that Sakura never found out the truth. Plus at that moment there were two more parallels between Sakura/Kushina and NaruSaku/MinaKuchi. It could even be argued that Sakura might never let Sasuke go for a moment she actually had with Naruto. Because you won't find anything more romantic in the manga canon between Sasuke and Sakura. If it was just one moment that made Sakura stay with Sasuke, it was definitely that moment. If there were several moments, it was still the strongest. 16:10 Especially in the manga industry, I don't think such decisions are generally made by the author anymore. Success in the manga industry is both a blessing and a curse. The bigger the success, the bigger the fandom. The bigger the fandom, the more money the companies involved in the production can make. This only works out well for the author as long as what he wants aligns with the will of the fandom. When the author's will no longer aligns with the fandom, the editors force the writer to rewrite the story. Or if there are several fandoms, then in the direction of the largest. For example, if NaruHina was planned, after 15 years and 700 chapters, you wouldn't need a movie.

There's an on-going fan manga of The Last and it's actually pretty decent and is more consistent with the previous material than the original movie was. It's still has problems (mostly because the original material didn't really leave it much to work with in terms of lore and power system) but the way it handles the characters is better than the original movie. (I will never forgive that movie for turning Naruto into a typical fanfic edgelord that only operates off of jealousy. One of the absolute worst examples of flanderization I have ever seen in my entire life, lol) Sasuke's characterization and role in it alone already craps on the original movie and it also doesn't completely forget about Kurama and how strong he and Naruto are together. (Seriously, why the hell does Kurama not break Naruto out of that forced plot induced genjutsu? They've already established prior that perfect jinchurikis are basically immune to all types of genjutsu, lol) It's a lot better than the movie's pisspoor attempt at nerfing Naruto just to make Hinata look good, lol It's kind of sad how the original source material feels more like fanfiction than the actual fanfiction, xD Also, 15:03 - I understand it's a stretch to say this but with the way they've been hyping up Boruto/Sarada, I'm convinced part of the reason this didn't happen is because Sasuke was a dude. Seriously, Boruto and Sarada's relationship is basically a mirror image of their dads', except it has some romantic implications attached to it. Makes me think if Sasuke was female from the start, they probably wouldn't have hesitated at all like with Boruto and Sarada right now, xD

My personal favorite is Shikasaku, okey hear me out. I think what's important in couples it's compatibility, as much as I love romantic tension I am believer that a good relationship is only possible with the couple being friends. What's point of being together if you have nothing to talk about? Sakura and Shikamaru are both highly intelligent, also Sakura's a medic and Nara clan is the clan of healers, so I'm sure Shikamaru is at least somewhat familiar with the topic. Original story did Sakura dirty, so I like to give her more character by adding some things, like I think she would be a workaholic with her being doctor and wanting to help as many people as possible (I personally would make her do medicine and some study on poisons). Shikamaru is lazy and observant, so I would make him show her how to chill out and not to take too much on herself, furthermore Sakura has a strong personality and could force Shikamaru to motivate. Even if they wouldn't be a couple I still see them as besties. Also as much as I understand Shikatema and think is the best canon couple (if not only one that's acceptable), I just don't feel it and can't myself like it. There's also other ships I like which are Saisaku and somewhat Shinohina and Chouino. Also Narusaku would be so so much better than what we got, like my girl Sakura deserves so much better and could be such an interesting character. (well there is not one good written girl/women in the series (excluding Boruto, cuz I don't really care about new gen))

I always ship Sakura and Kankuro in my mind; like the connection initially sparks during the Kazekage rescue arc when Sakura saves/heals him, then builds each time they see each other like Shikamaru and Temari's relationship did. We see through Kankuro rising from his deathbed to defend Gaara's claim and subsequently rushing to rejoin the rescue efforts that he's dedicated to those he loves and will do anything for them- which is the kind of love Sakura deserves from Sasuke but never gets. Plus brute strength puppet master kids would be pretty cool lol so all in all, Sankuro is a great pairing in my mind. PS- Bonus ships are Kakashi-Shizune and Jugo-Hanna (Kiba's sister).

I'm one of those weirdos who have 2 straight rarepairs when it comes to Naruto: GaaFuu (Gaara x Fuu) and KankuTen (Kankuro x Tenten) GaaraFuu because the Killer Bee's Mugen Tsukuyomi filler. I remember making a quick OG Naruto filler-esque fanfic about Kankuro helping Tenten in a joint mission (along with Naruto and Lee). I usually write these two having Ladybug-Cat Noir dynamics, but Kankuro respects her in the end. The first thing I thought about Kankuro and Tenten because of cat-mouse theme, but well... they're both weapon experts. KankuTen is my first ever rarepair xD

Oh we going down the crackshipping route. Okay, I am down with that. Gaara x Tenten. Hear me out. This is based off the supplemental material where they were shopping Naruto's wedding present, Gaara was clueless and overthinking it with Lee's weird enthusiasm not helping him but Tenten who came along, gave him some practical advice that helped Gaara figure out what he needed, and honestly, they kind of looked cute together. I can't explain it in words, but they just were complimentary to one another. I sensed budding chemistry here and was thinking that Gaara was going to ask Tenten to dance as a thank you where one or both could've caught feelings. Then picturing Gaara's nosy siblings trying to hook them up could be interesting as Tenten reying to prove herself to Temari would be an uphill climb after Temari destroyed her back in the day, but I could see them being solid sister in laws. A friendly rivalry could be worth exploring, especially since Tenten now has a cool fan to contend with. Tenten's ninja tool expertise is ripe for bonding with Kankuro and his puppets with all of their hidden contraptions and poisons, etc. They could definitely respect and appreciate the other's skills. Also, I remember Gaara being proficient in several weapons as he taught his student Mitsuri some weapon combat, so that loops back to him likely respecting Tenten's specialty as a ninja and her ninja tool obsession.

Never in the history of anime has there even been a series to disappoint me more in terms of ending ships than Naruto. Except for Jiraiya X Tsunade, nothing made sense (probably because Tsunade is the ONLY well-written female character in the entire story). I was always a fan of the idea of clans and their members marrying each other, mostly cousins - they had reasons to do that, especially those with special bloodlines. I wanted to see Neji finally become the head of the Hyuuga clan by marrying Hinata, thus they would have abolished the stupid branch-family system. (don't even try to dis me here - you've seen the char designs for both the Uchiha and the Hyuuga clan members - Kishimoto never mentioned these clans inbreeding, but he never denied it either). While Naruto should have always ended up with Sakura, since this would have finally broken the curse of their predecessors where the "dumbass" would lose the girl of the team to the "emo cool kid". It would have meant so much for Sakura's development too, finally getting over her Stockholm syndrome and acknowledge the guy who was always at her side, and for once, not trying to kill her. I also considered Naruto reviving the Uzumaki clan with Karin, given enough time and development - he is half Uzumaki, after all. Redhead Boruto would have finally made some sense. ShikaIno is another ship that should have happen - these 2 had so much history together and it would have meant so much for Ino to develop as a character by wanting to be with someone who had smarts instead of a cheap Sasuke lookalike. Her arc would have been perfect this way if she transitioned from someone who only cared about looks to someone who valued what's beneath the surface - not that Shikamaru isn't handsome, he absolutely is - always has been. Anyway, Naruto is a textbook example of character development taking more than one step back in favor of marketing, fanservice and new ways of milking the franchise by creating a subpar next generation with a big a cast as possible. When I heard Kishimoto saying that he always intended for Naruto and Hinata to end up together, I know that's a load of bull - the editors made him lie about this. Else they wouldn't have had to make the movies to try and convince us that "Oh yeah, it was legit, you just didn't know it. Deep down, Naruto was always interested in Hinata."

I don't know if killing Neji was because of executive meddling since Kishimoto said that he drew Neji's name out of a hat when he was trying to decide which character should die (Neji, Shikamaru, or Kakashi) and then said that Neji was supposed to die earlier but an editor forced him to keep Neji alive longer and then some time later said that Neji would have ended up with TenTen if he was alive and then said that he killed off Neji so NaruHina can happen, but killing off a character so a certain ship can happen is a terrible reason to kill off a character, especially a main or recurring character. Manga and light novel readers hated how the anime treated Sakura, so that tells me there is some angry powerful man at Studio Pierrot that really hates Sakura and all of the blushing moments Sasuke had with Sakura in the manga. NaruSaku vs NaruHina is reminding me of DuncanxCourtney & TrentxGwen vs DuncanxGwen. [Anyone who has seen the Total Drama series would know about the drama that happened behind the scenes when it came to the part about executives forcing the showrunners to have Gwen and Duncan cheat on their partners with each other.] Also, trying to write off Naruto's feelings for Sakura as "him not knowing the difference between friendship, familial love, and romantic & sexual love" is bull crap - especially when you realize the Naruto-Sakura-Sasuke dynamic is based on Kishimoto, his wife, and his twin brother - and is reminding me of the bull crap decision of have Yuki's feelings for Tohru being that he realized he loved her like a mother instead of him having a crush on her but realizing he lost to Kyo and eventually got over his crush on Tohru after spending some time with Machi. While JK Rowling ended up pairing Hermione with Ron, even though Hermione is based on her and her husband inspired Harry and one of her friends inspired Ron, I don't think RonxHermione enraged the Harry Potter fandom or almost destroyed JK's marriage the way making NaruHina endgame did to the Naruto fandom and Kishimoto's marriage. I don't know if picking RonxHermione was JK's decision or her editors' and executives' decision, but based on what she said about Ron and Hermione would end up divorcing and recent events that have happened in JK's life, I would say that there is a 50% chance that RonxHermione was an editor/executive decision and a 50% chance it is JK unconsciously wondering about how her life would turn out if she married someone else because her marriage isn't going well. As for kishimoto, if BoruSara becomes endgame in the Boruto series, it is probably Kishimoto's way of apologizing to NaruSaku and SasuNaru fans. (And since the main female characters in Boruto aren't as boy-crazy or boy-obsessed as Sakura, Ino, and Hinata were in Naruto, it would be harder for the anime executives and editors to force Boruto and Sarada to end up with other people, especially not after all of the backlash that happened from making NaruHina endgame.] And honestly, no one in team 8 was goong to end up woth each other because kishimoto is intent on keeping the ino-shika-cho trend alive - and ino is a clan heiress so someone like shikamaru, chouji, sasuke, or naruto is out of the question if kishimoto wants to have ino stay as the clan heiress.

I can't believe how you just casually DESTROYED Hinata in the bonus round though - "[Kibahina] is a bit bland. Because anything with Hinata is bland." Took me tf out with that. Although ironically I have a soft spot for that ship, since IMO it's kind of a better version of Naruhina. Kiba canonically is fairly similar to Naruto in terms of his personality and goals, but UNLIKE Naruto, Kiba indisputably cares about Hinata. Nearly all of the things Hinata likes about Naruto she could find and appreciate in Kiba, with the bonus of him actually noticing and appreciating her right back. I also agree about Kakasaku. I'd never consider it in canon but for fanfic set a few years down the line, this ship is a GOLDMINE.

you can try to make fanfics of naruhina or sasusaku but they will never be good in any way whatsoever, its literally just changing their bs personality to fit ur dumb fantasies with two characters that DONT FIT TOGETHER, sasusaku is disgusting abusive relationship where sasuke only sees sakura as a baby machine for the uchiha clan, and sakura is just a stuck up fangirl brat still stuck in her fangirl stage with anger problems that cant see shes only a brat obsessed with sasuke over his looks, and sthe fangirl got the fantasy she wanted with someone that sees her as a mere baby machine, naruhina is literally a forced relationship filled with guilt tripping and manipulation, naruto never loved hinata, he only saw her as a friend literally, but hinata like the dumb character she was completely mistook the admiration she had for naruto as love, and so a broken couple was made where naruto was forced and guilt tripped into being with her just for the sake of it and hinata never saw what she had for naruto was ADMIRATION NOT LOVE
