I loved this so much😊!! As a 3 year vegan it’s very refreshing to listen to you speaking about it in such a nonjudgmental manner. I think this is the best way to reach out to people who are thinking about making changes in their own life❤!! I also didn’t experience many physical or mental changes. For me it’s all about the baby animals🌱✨🌈

This video was so refreshing Megan. Thank you for taking the time to speak so openly and passionately. I don't think I've ever left a comment but i've been watching your channel for about 6 years now, I'm just a few years older than you, and it's lovely to see how much you've grown. With age comes experience, knowledge, and confidence and you've always kept it real but it's nice to see you just be so unapologetically YOU 💁‍♀️ Keep shining girl 💖 Also, your hair does look amazing ✨

Hi Megan, really appreciate this talk as it provides a balanced insight on how you transitioned the dietary change and your personal experience. I would like to share that for people who find it tough to be 100% vegan for various reasons, being on a whole foods, plant based diet for as many meals as you can is progress 😊

I‘m stopping in the middle of the video to write- I respectfully disagree with what you said about foods that can be veganised and you can’t even tell a difference. I really did try (and will continue to try) different vegan options of many foods and meals and I can absolutely taste the difference (usually the vegan one just doesn’t taste that good or has a weird texture). I wonder if it’s possible that your taste buds simply changed ever since you started with plant based diet and / or it’s been 2 years now and you maybe forgot how the non-vegan foods tasted? No hate here, I’m genuinely curious.

I'm not vegan but this was a great video with so much useful and insightful information! I agree that not everyone has the access or means to go fully vegan, but I think that something is better than nothing, so for example, when there is a choice, I always go for the vegan option (e.g. in the menu of a restaurant/cafe, when I buy certain groceries, when choosing new products to buy, etc). I believe this would be a great start also for those who are ready to be fully committed to becoming vegan but want to do it gradually 💚

I appreciated the whole video but especially where you were talking about plants and nonhuman animals, that there's more going on with them than folks are aware. I have a biology degree, so I was like, yep, yep, yep. The thing that gets me with plants was something one of my professors said: "Whenever you eat a seed, you kill a whole individual." Thanks, prof, thanks for that. I think about that now and then when I'm eating seeds. Or when I grow and harvest carrots, I wonder if they're screaming at me in plant "language." Being aware of this stuff from biology makes me wish I could just photosynthesize and not have to eat any living thing sometimes. :) But we all have to eat, as you said, and I guess I just think of it as let's all try to do the best we can do with our diets, so that they're healthy and sustainable for us, meet any individual health needs we have, are within our financial means, and are the kindest to the world around us as we can possibly manage. I have vegan, vegetarian and omnivorous friends, and each in their way are doing the best they can. I appreciate that you approached this subject in a nonjudgmental way and that you encouraged others not to judge. And one last thing I will add is that you don't have to be vegan or vegetarian to eat vegan or vegetarian meals or foods. Maybe working in vegan or vegetarian meals is a way someone can cut back on eating animal products. Maybe it's a way to explore making a shift to being entirely plant based. Just an idea, and no worries if folks aren't feeling that idea. I'm not judging. Oh and thank you for also speaking about indigenous communities. I appreciated that inclusion.

Really appreciate you being honest about gaining weight initially from going vegan and being upfront about the supplements you're taking! Feel like other vegans do not bring this up so thank you! I tried being vegan about a year ago and also didn't find an 'energy boost' and I think same as you because I was already eating healthy and going vegan added more processed foods. I went back to animal products because of the low energy I felt but can probably say it was just me not getting the right nutrition as easily as before.

Hey Megan! Great video, I was vegetarian for a long time but I don't think I was doing it correctly. I was a teenager so I think I may have been lacking a lot of nutrients etc. I have contemplated going back to being vegetarian and doing it right though! Quick question - what are your thoughts on people feeding their pets a vegan diet?
@meganlacoste
@meganlacoste 6 ай бұрын
That’s a good question! Dogs are omnivorous like us, so I think with the help of a vet a vegan diet can work. Cats on the other hand are obligate carnivores so I’m not sure. Most vets say no, but some scientific papers have come out saying that they can.. because I’m guessing they can create synthetic taurine and put it in their food (which is one of the nutrients they need from meat). Hard to say!
@michellebelle6269
@michellebelle6269 6 ай бұрын
@@meganlacoste Thanks for your input! I agree that it may be possible for dogs but I always worry when I see people feeding their cats a vegan diet. I think it needs a lot more research before people try to do it! I have a cat who is extremely sensitive to food and when I tried to switch her to a grain-free diet, it upset her stomach and she started having bathroom issues. So I can only imagine how much removing meat could affect a pet's health.

as a vegan for two years myself in the states i have seen that for me as well being vegan is a lot cheaper than buying meats. i can buy groceries for my family of three i spend less than 500 a month on our food and thats buying some things in bulk that i truly dont need i just like having the item stalked up so when i dont feel like cooking my daughter or husband can easily make something

As a fully indigenous person who grew up on a reservation, we use extremely sustainable and ethical methods for crops and livestock. I don't understand how it's so hard to keep it ethical around the world. It's just a little more work, but it works and saves money. Hauling water from natural springs, no additives or anything in our dry crops, and treating our animals as another beautiful soul on this Earth, with respect and good conditions. Sheep and cows and horses are all family members, but when it's time to butcher, it's done ethically, with as little suffering as possible, and is a family event, and we use every single body part of the animal, from blood to bone to meat to skin to eating the head even. So it lasts a long time and we don't waste what our Creator gave us.

I see what you mean as well but why no one is talking about the environmental issues that veganism also creates? like the avocados, the almonds used for the milk look it up, the factories making fake meat and fake cheeses? the vegan diet contributions to the issues also. Being vegan is not sustainable for everyone it takes planing and money. It is a privilege to be able to afford that. I like that you do consider that but most ppl do not. I also dislike how a lot of the issues coming from This companies are pushed on the regular folks and we are made to feel responsible. The push should be on the governments, the laws we do not control the way they treat the animals and the way they cut corners to save money. Everyone would wish for that to stop but we don't control it. Putting all the blame on the ppl who do not control any of this is not helping the issues. Honestly I support anyone eating anything they want but acting like veganism is easy for everyone to do its just not realistic.
@meganlacoste
@meganlacoste 6 ай бұрын
Hey alexandra thanks for your comment! :) Veganism isn't perfect but it's a lot better for the environment than meat, even when you account for avocados and almonds (checkout the paper I linked in the description if you’re interested). Yeah I agree vegan substitutes can be expensive af, I myself don't buy a lot of it. I mainly just get whole foods and cook my own meals which works out to be pretty cheap. And unfortunately, corporations and laws won't change unless people put pressure on them to do so, which can be done by choosing not to give them money. One person won’t make a difference, but if there’s many they can.

I really enjoy the video I think you made great points. I think if you have the privilege to go vegan you should but I disagree about its accessibility even in the first world where in America more than half of the population is living paycheck to paycheck. Also I think that as humans we have lost connection to the animal kingdom just like we’ve lost the connection to each other because although animal suffering should be considered let’s not forget of the human lives that are currently being lost due to the oppression of the first world. So this isn’t me contradicting anything you are saying I just think in order to create actual change in the world and in the treatment of animals we have to liberate all oppressed peoples and our minds.
