Yes, finally! I just got mine too, so I was looking forward to your take on this. I also thought it would make a great MPE controller for the rest of my gear (well, that’s how I rationalized the purchase to myself 😂)

@@MilesAwayOfficial I'm in the same boat, mine's out for delivery today. However I've since learned that the weighted key glide (bending between notes) doesn't work on external synths. This is due to licensing with Haken. Apparently you can send the Haken MPE+ midi data from the USB port, and that will give you a semi-broken implementation of it. Will be experimenting later today.
@MilesAwayOfficial

@@Standard.Candle ah that's a bummer, I didn't know that! Hopefully some agreement can be reached in the future if there's enough demand. Let me know how your experiment goes.

Are the first 7 minutes including that film score you made all done with the Osmose synth? Pretty awesome! What can you do with the Osmose on external synths? Does it depend on the synth - have you tried it with your OB6? Is it just vibrato per note in terms of expression similar to ableton push 3 and hydrasynth?
@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial 8 ай бұрын
So everything except the film score is ONLY the Osmose. The film score has support from Strings/Percs/Piano patches in Kontakt, but I am playing them in live (showing that Osmose is a great midi controller too). And yes - how Osmose works as a controller depends on the synth you use: the synth needs to support MPE. You can then assign different Midi CCs if you wanna get complex. OB-6 works great, but GS E7 is the perfect Osmose synth to pair. The stock settings just work amazingly.

Great video as always, I wish I was more stoked about this I’ve played with it a couple times just not into the Sounds, but love it paired with other, synths but then it feels like an over priced controller. I feel like the sounds are already played out as it all sounds the same all over the Internet. I’m more interested in the GSE 7 which I played with the other day and was really liking what I heard, how are you liking the sounds of that?

Thanks so much! I personally love the Osmose presets but I can get how they might get stale since tweaking is minimal. GS E7 is amazing! One of my fave synths, I did an entire video on it a few months ago, you should check it out :)

Got one last week. Incredibly expressive; having pitch bend and dynamic swelling capabilities on-key is amazing. Sadly I’m just not feeling the sound of the onboard engine. Difference is pretty obvious when hearing it hooked up to an analogue synth. I found a lot of the aliasing off-putting, especially on headphones. For me, I think it will be great as a controller for analogue synths and physical modelling strings and winds. I’m interested to see whether they’ll collaborate with other partners and whether they’ll eventually bring out a bigger version (5 or 6 octaves). For now, I’m returning this one.

Hello Miles, just wondering if you can give your thoughts on using the osmose as a controller for non MPE synths? I'm thinking of getting this as a main controller for different desktop modules, some that support MPE (deckard's dream) and some that don't (ob-x8). Just wondering from your experience if this would be a viable option to work with all my synths without needing multiple controllers, therefore saving space and simplifying my production setup. Thanks!
@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial 10 ай бұрын
Late reply! This is definitely the main reason I would buy it if you are a synth person. I find besides my ambient/film score work I don't use the Osmose's sounds that much in my electronic songs, but I mainly use it as an MPE controller for my GS - E7 and a standard midi controller for my SYNTRX 2. It works flawlessly with both those synths. Never tried the deckard's dream!

This instrument is absolutely ideal for musicians in the Middle East and India. I imagine what you can do on it if you played a sound of duduk kamancheh, or klarinet not the clarinet as the classical clarinet but the middle eastern one. This should sell in Armenia, India, Turkey Iran and those countries like hotcakes. Incredible

Miles I trust your opinion so the question is, do you think the Osmose is a suitable master keyboard? I know it's only 49 keys but it's the expressiveness I am after. I will have 2 MPE hardware synths that I want to control, but it's an expensive proposition, so am wondering should I just get the Teo 5 instead and concentrate more on sound than play style. I am not a keyboardist by far, I noodle, I have sequencers doing diff things and make all sorts of music, in your opinion, do you think I would be limiting myself with just 2 MPE synths? I am also keen on the yet to be released Reliq which does MPE recording, that's the game changer right there, the Reliq and the Osmose would be perfect partners but it's something I have to work hard towards for saving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good question! For me personally I couldn’t just use an Osmose as my only controller. I personally need some kind of 61 key midi keyboard to make the kind of chords + bass I like to play. But if you are ok with 49 keys only then it should be fine. Best combo I think is an Osmose or Seaboard + some kind of basic master keyboard with 61+ keys
@dankeplace
@dankeplace Ай бұрын
@@MilesAwayOfficial I think I answered my own Q while waiting for an answer from you, I think it could be a waste given I don't do a lot of keys, so in place I would just get the Teo 5 which still gives me ability to split 44 keys, which is more than enough and has a quality FATAR keybed. I do have an E touche so that helps with additional modulation, thanks for the reply.

As a more traditional keyboardist/pianist, I feel this expressive capability works better for solo lines. Similar to the Haken Continuum and the Roli Seaboard, etc. Personally, I prefer true (non-MPE) polyphonic aftertouch, and am very pleased we are starting to see that implemented in various new keyboards (ASM, Waldorf, UDO, and (soon!?) Groove Synthesis). Just IMHO.
@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial Жыл бұрын
That’s a fair point of view! Not sure if you know though, but this does work with traditional polyphonic aftertouch mode for external synths where none of the gestures send data except for poly at. Works great with my Ob-X8 :)

A keyboard that accepts channel aftertouch is not going to be able to polyphonically bend notes etc. If you don’t need this that’s fair! But there’s definitely a huge number of keyboard players that have been waiting years for something like this :)

@@MilesAwayOfficial In the latest version of Bitwig I have a module from which I can do it note by note and in a more complex way than from this keyboard, it is called "Key Tracking"[ able to polyphonically bend notes w/modulation plus FX's per note! I can trigger 1 different effect for each of the 61 keys if I wanted to...just sayin' ] anyway the "Expressive E Osmose" is a great keyboard, very well thought out and will surely have its market.
