I have sky broadband & router so thinking of getting another router I can apply the vpn so I have two network one normal & one vpn

I use the GL.inet Flint AX router. It's literally the same router for 90 USD less. It's firmware has VPN and Ad blocker plug-ins. Don't use the VPN, but the ad blocker works well.

Very helpful, thanks. I like using the app on my iPad, iPhone and windows laptop and changing countries as needed. This router sounds like a step backwards

Do you need an external internet connection for the router like AT&T or comcast?

Yes, you will need a connection from any standard ISP.

I am a person that is from the US but I live outside the US. I primarily use the Amplifi router for the sake of coverarge since it's a mesh Wi-Fi system. But having a VPN router to connect before my amplifi so that I can appear in the US. without losing the mesh wifi. And having to install a VPN on every device is cumbersome. Streaming services work in certain locations on VPN, so it's really just a matter of research. I think the best comparison would be the average person that has/had the linksys wrt3200 acm router

I'm leaning towards sending my Aircove back. I can't get it to work, probably a me problem. But after seeing your video, I'm going to put the app on my PC, it is already on my wife's and my cell phones. Is there a way to put the app on smart TV'S? If so, will I then have a problem you were talking about where it will not work with some channels? Thank you very much

I ended up selling mine as I really couldn’t find a use for it. ExpressVPN does have apps for many of the major smart tv platforms including Roku and Samsung. I personally haven’t tried as I’ve made the assumption it would cause some problems. Might be worth a try though!

i am leaning towards buying netgear night hawk router, was express vpn easy to install or you had some challenges in installing or confuguring it?

Installation in terms of the router itself was easy as it's ExpressVPN's own software built right in. I can't speak for other brands that offer ExpressVPN integration.

Two questions: 1. If you need a comcast or Verizon router for the VPN to operate, wouldn't your smart TV, and streaming apps, plus visitors still be able to access our home router? I understand they won't be protected by the VPN, but I because they are not protected now, and I am most interested in using the device while traveling anyhow. 2. Is Aircove portable? Can I take it to Mexico and expect it to work? Thanks.

What I want is to use it for restricted content like MLBTV black outs or to switch say.... PlutoTV to another region on the fly. You didn't explain that. Privacy yes by default but switching locations.... whats your opinion? I didn this with express VPN on my mac and it opens up SO MUCH content on Pluto TV. I want that for my ROKU TVs.

That's an excellent point and something I completely missed. While I haven't tried it, that seems like it could be a great argument for buying this router. Seeing as you were able to get it working by using ExpressVPN on your Mac, the only thing that would stop you is if Roku took issue with being connected to a VPN.

I am thinking to buy an Aircove (or some other vpn router) for a "dual router" setup with my ASUS one, so I can connect to it the devices where an official app isn't available to the vpn router, devices such Synology NASes and R.pi. The process to make Express VPN work on those type of devices is more challenging and less beginner friendly, troubleshot is probably more painful too. Would you suggest this router in that case, some other model/brand or a different solution? Thnx in advance.

Pcwrt router. I have been using them for about six years. Easiest router to use with all the features a home user could want. You can use openvpn or wireguard with built in kill switch. You can also setup a vlan and assign your vpn to that vlan. Just download the config file for your vpn. Upload it to the router and it's done. The router does not phone home. No account needed to used the router. It has built in ad blocker. Dns over https. Many preset dns providers built in. No need for a raspberry pi. Built in bandwidth monitor. You can check the logs to see who is browsing what website. You can setup different profiles under access control to lock down certain devices. It's one of the only devices I know of that can actually block someone from using a vpn to bypass your security profile. Check it out.

One great reason to get a VPN router, if someone hacks in to your network and starts downloading movies from torrent sites, it wont get tracked back to you.

I think you dont know the basics of a VPN connection. In some countries you can't even access google play or youtube or anywhere to even download express vpn app. Thats the main use of this router. However most important thing you did not cover was the spec of its CPU and Ram to show if it can keep the speed from droppig much.

While I appreciate your comment, I will have to politely reject the premise of most of your arguments. Regarding the main use of the router, ExpressVPN makes it very clear on their website that the intention for this device is to extend the benefits of their ExpressVPN service to the entire home network, even for devices that don’t natively support it. Regarding other countries, I feature North American products for a North American market. It would be disingenuous of me to make claims about other markets that I am not a part of. Your point on the CPU and Ram stats is a valid point and while I generally don’t include those when taking about consumer level products, I can see how that would be very valuable info to many viewers. I thank you for your feedback on that one.
