When I heard, this book was written (by accident because I discovered the song first) I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Being one of the most revered women in the world,that I think in my time on this earth,I will ever come to think of as so historically profound. Anything, on Mrs.Kennedy-Onassis I love to read and find out about. This book was kind and thoughtful… and just so touching,as was described,how she looked with a paisley scarf around her head, the adjective beautiful was used as she was slipping away. It was not ostentatious for the sake of reviling private moments between friends…just very kind. Thank you Ms. Simon for sharing such a wonderful friendship….

Sugar coat it all you want, but if you shared private and personal stories that she entrusted to you when you were with her, after her death, you’re disrespecting Jackie. You would have NEVER shared that information if she were still alive. It would have probably cost you the friendship.

Doubtful Jackie would have thought of this book as a loving tribute. Jackie's privacy meant everything to her. Carly didn't share the book with (Caroline) because she knew Caroline would not approve. Most of John Jr.'s friends sold him out when he passed too. NONE of Carolyn's friends did - except Rose, John's assistant and Carole, John's cousin's wife but NONE of Carolyn's personal friends ever sold her out. Carly did it as a money grab. All her James Taylor/Your so vain stories had been told. This one about Jackie was one most probably didn't know about. They were an odd paring for sure. She did it for the money.

@RayofLightTarot
@RayofLightTarot 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt the truth of the assassination even mattered much to her; the only thing that would have probably mattered to her was something that could bring her husband & children’s father back, which nothing could. I read somewhere that whenever someone would bring up the details of the assassination in front of her she would just look at them sort of quizzically, as if discussing those details had no point.

She didn’t feel comfortable writing about her parents then. I wonder if people know that her mom was from Cuba and part of her ancestry was African? Carly is one of the MOST PROLIFIC SONGWRITERS of her generation. I wonder if her nominal African ancestry had any impact on her and how she sees the world. I wish she and others would talk about their background in order to help young people of similar backgrounds and educate all of us. NOW I HAVE “COMING AROUND AGAIN” PLAYING NON STOP IN MY HEAD❤️

You are not OWED the information about peoples lives just because they are famous. Their private life and ancestries is not something that you are just entitled to. She didn´t even attempt to keep that a secret that is why she did the television show who do you think you are. People trying to keep their life a secret do not do television shows seeking their ancestors. Bye the way she did NOT know some of her ancestry UNTIL she went on that show.

@omar chandler I read a profile on Carly in Vanity Fair, where she admitted to and embraced her Black heritage, and even said her Grandmother "resembled Lena Horne". How ironic that Carly was close to Jackie Kennedy, as Jackie's father's family (Black Jack), descended from Black blood, as well. Jackie went out of her way to have this information changed to "Jewish" around the time her husband was headed to the White House.

Yes, she was private & who 'should' know this more than HER OWN CHILDREN, yet they went & auctioned off her belongings after she was gone, then released tapes that Jackie wanted to be sealed for x-number years... So no, I don't see any problem with Carly writing a book about her, like so many others had. The fact that Caroline auctioned off Jackie's personal belongings, yet the dress Jackie wore when JFK was assassinated is 'not to be seen until...' It just seems such a striking contradiction

I read the book and it was actually more about Carly's life from the 80s to the early 90s. Jackie is really more of a supporting character in the book and Carly doesn't, like trash or insult her or anything, so I don't see how the book's a "betrayal". So what if Carly wrote it because she needed money? It's still a good book and besides, nobody yelled at Carly for trashing James Taylor, so why should we yell at her even if she did trash Jackie?
