I dont think anyone could ask for more than that. The players seemed confident and not afraid of taking some long range shots. Hopefully fans will be able to watch some exciting football this season

Not getting carried away. Still need another top striker. 2-1 against League 1 opponents last year to be expected. Be happier if more went in the onion bag. Great possession though.

Villa fan here, impressed with the Saints, you guys really need to hold on to Ward Prowse and i think you`ll return to the Premier League in one of the automatic slots this season. He looked a cut above everyone else. Just like we were able to hold onto Grealish in the Championship you should really keep your best player whatever money offered. Looks like he`s cut from the same cloth as your former great Matthew Le Tissier and would be happy to stay.

same old Wed, backing off you could see it coming, im celebrating my three years away from going to see this shower, while my mates are still complaining they have spoilt there week, just one thing Radio Sheffield breaking down yet again, opening match of the season, giddings and co are useless.

in the last minute there was a chance to score a goal..but why did the referee blow the whistle, ending the game..the ball was still in the D box

Only criticism is that very few times a midfielder actually looked for the striker. No point in getting another when they're not gonna get the ball ...

@@mikelewis9847 apart from just before that 2nd goal ,it was almost identical, a far lesser team just sitting back knowing we won't do a lot to break them down in the final 3rd and if they get a chance they will likely score , like they did 1 shot on target one goal ,Sheffield played a far better game then we did from neutral point of veiw after all we are prem team and they just come up, we should of smashed them ,but a wins a win

@@benjamindadzie9657 it shouldn't be bla bla bla it should be fair and competitive same in the prem.but it isn't that's why teams like Leeds, Wednesday, Forrest, Ipswich Sunderland, Newcastle clubs that are 10 times bigger then Southampton have struggled in the 2nd and 3rd division from a broken system.if it was fair Southampton would still be in the prem because you could have kept your players.
