Extending The Allis G Tractor - More Space, More Opportunity

In a previous video we talked about using finger weeders on the Allis G tractor. We also mentioned how the Allis Chalmers G Frame Extension kit can help with this. In this video Dustin & Doug split Tilmor's 1949 Allis G in order to install the extension kit. They ran into some speed bumps along the way but in the end were successful and this Allis G is much more suited for use with a stacked finger weeder set up.

Looks like a very nice upgrade for the G and I’m impressed with the price for your kit, well done guys!! Evidently you guys are understanding that many of us need to try and adapt as much of this older equipment as we possibly can in lieu of being able to just buy the new Tilmor system which would be nice and is on the list but there’s many other improvements that are required when going from row crop or pasture over too a produce type production and unfortunately many of us only have pockets deep Etta allow for a few equipment upgrades each year till we can really become profitable so we break out the welders and tools and modify what we already have to work with some of the newer attachments out there in order to reduce our workload but increase production. Many thanks for what you guys are doing! I do concur with the other fella that made the comment about the steering but it seems you guys have already worked thru that the easiest way possible right now. I’m curious tho about why you wouldn’t be able to extend the steering shaft other than support which seems like a new support could be fabricated to offer the support needed but I don’t currently have a G sitting here that I can look at and see if it’s a worthwhile venture or if it would just be best to stick with what your offering. But no matter what, this extension kit is already going to be a huge improvement to the tractor!! (Btw: I guess I would be classified as on of those shorter operators now since I unfortunately keep shrinking every year the older I get. Ten years ago I was 5’10” but now I’m just under 5’8”. I sure hope it slows done otherwise my wife will end up taller than myself by time she buries me, lol)

Thanks for the encouragement and support Don! We are always working to find ways to have options that meet farmers where they are at and having tools to extend the life of older equipment is one of those ways. Extending the steering column would require either a completely new steering shaft or a stub shaft and coupling and possibly another brace. Definitely something that could be done, but honestly not something we looked at since the seat is the easy/economical button as it only requires a lasered out plate, some bolts and nuts. Thanks again and keep on growing :D

Seems with the hollow back to the seat side and extension could be made that is telescoping for different set ups.

That steering wheel needs to be extended so it closer to the body and one wouldn't have to hunch over too much.

Not quite so simple to extend the steering wheel but we do mention and briefly show (9:40) the plate for moving the seat closer to the steering wheel, however we did not take the time to install it for this video. For shorter operators this would be key, so thank you for pointing it out. For taller operators it is actually quite comfortable and allows for better visibility of the rows, better placement of the feet vs original position and a good body position for operation. How’s the reach to the toolbar lever?

That is a great question and something I did not think to address as I'm a bit taller (6') and the new position of it didn't even cross my mind or come up as an issue. The seat bracket (shown at 9:50) can be installed to place the operator at almost the original position in regards to the the toolbar lever. This puts your pedals a bit more under you but for vertically challenged individuals it is all positioned pretty optimally.
