Hey Jim. This was an excellent video, straightforward! Although it's focused on CAD software and alike. My quest for upgrading my 17" msi gtx1070 laptop is to move from my current Predator z35 monitor @2560x1080 to a43" 4k momitor. I think my 1070gtxMQ won't be adequate for both work, cad viewing in large plant 3d models and also gaming. Do you think that it's better selling my laptop or is an eGPU the best way to hook my laptop to a 43" 4k desktop monitor. I will not use the eGPU other than for that monitor. The eGPU will basically be stationary at my desktop. Any point in th3 right direction is greatly appreciated!

I was considering this exact setup but reading the specs of the core x chroma it says it can support up to 500 watts of power for the card but the 3080 requires 750 watts. Also, isn't there three power 6x2 power plugs on the 3080 card? But the chroma only has two power plugs. Seems this wouldn't work.

Thinking about getting this after alienware killed off their AGA. I have an Area 51 R2. Will the eGPU work in conjunction with my internal 2080S(200 Watt) or shut it down and pull only from the external?

What I need do? Razer core x chroma not working. The fan does not turn and the lights do not turn on, although the electricity is on. Razer core x chroma not showing in Thunderbolt 3. I have done all the latest driver downloads and the result is still the same. Also, the card I installed in razer core x chroma is rtx 3070 ti. Should I install the RTX 3070 ti driver for this? What drivers should I install for Razer Core X Chrome?

what laptop do you have? Does it have an internal graphics card? If yes, which one? I'm just wondering how much of an increase of performance it was compared to the internal GPU because I have the base Razer Blade with the 2060. Just trying to compare the price of the Chroma, and whatever gpu I can get my hands on, and performance, vs price.

I would be very curious how this eGPU setup compares to a high-end gaming laptop, using i9-11980HK/Ryxen 9 5900HX and a mobile RTX 3080. That is normally about 25% slower than a desktop counterpart, but I doubt that the lag of the Thunderbolt cabling will be much less. I am fully aware that my internal CPU is not upgradeable, but I haven't seen such a comparison. I have never used the Benchmarks you use, but I guess I can and compare. I do have a TimeSpy score of ~13000 though, without OC. Sorry about the late post.

Is there any significant differences between TB3 egpu enclosures? I see a variety of prices but... well, I don't have any real desire for fancy RGB or anything. Also as far as the benchmarks, it seems the sweet spot in terms of value with a 30 series card connected over TB3 is the 3060 or possibly 3070. It's the 4x PCIe bottleneck at play, the 3080 and above don't seem to offer significant extra performance due to it.

Hey, finally a relief to find this video. I have AW51MD503AU - Alienware Area 51m R2. Right now, I have 2080 super; it has been a year since I got it. i game as well as use archi software. I am planning on getting a 38' Alienware monitor AW3821WD. For better gaming performance in 3840 x 1600 resolution, thinking about getting 3090. Will NVIDIA 3090 with RAZER CORE X CHROMA, EXTERNAL GRAPHICS ENCLOSURE do the job?

You missed one thing performance on laptop will compromised as data out/in is on same thunder bolt so external display will have better results.

From what I understand, Thunderbolt uses 4 PCIE Lanes whereas desktops GPUs will utilize either 16 or 8 depending on your set up. Typically it's 16 if you don't use the the first and second PCIE Slot. The funny thing is, Thunderbolt (intel) says you can get up to 40 Gbps of transfer speeds but that's pretty much impossible on 4 lanes. Just short of 32 is the reality here.

Hi Joseph! Thanks for the great video. Would like some advice if u have the time. I'm currently on a Razer Blade 15 Advanced with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10875H. Its a great laptop for gaming and content creation. However, I would like to edit 4k video even more smoothly on my external ultrawide 38-inch LG monitor. Whilst I can do so currently, I was thinking that an eGPU might enhance my setup. My questions are: 1. Given my CPU, how good a GPU could I install in the Razer Core X Chroma such that the CPU doesn't become a bottleneck? My worry is that even if I install the best GPU, my CPU may not be able to harness the potential of the GPU and it might be a waste. 2. I wanted to attach daisy chain a USB Dock to the eGPU to make ports more accessible but of course the Core X only has 1 TB port. What are your thoughts on using the Akitio Node Duo that has 2 TB ports? The only issue with it I find is that it only generates 500W which leads to my last question... 3. What GPU do u think would be suitable for the Node Duo to partner with the Razer Blade 15? I hear that the power generated should account for 2x the power required so I assume I could use a GPU that requires 250W? Appreciate any advice if you have the time :)

I have a razer core x with a rtx 3080 fe paired to a surface pro 9 & it sure does put out better graphics than my old aurora r12 3070, debating if I should get the chroma version & upgrade the psu, fans & i/o port.

I use Maya & Arnold , also DaVinci and I was wondering if an eGPU would work here as well . Thing is a new laptop (with last gen tech) with good specs will cost way more than even this razor thing with a RTX 4090 (even though teh pricing is bonkers) and a renderfarm is expensive too when you start rendering teh good stuff ... so if it works it might be a good solution ...if it works

I would like to purchase a monitor such as lg38wn95c and connect to a regular work laptop (which I do not have control). Main usage would be for multiple windows and programming tasks (but not machine learning (ML) that is GPU intensive)). In the past I had issues connecting a regular Dell I received from work to a 27 inch Dell 2k monitor. Is a eGPU (external) setup combined with the lg38wn95c monitor a solution to guarantee that the setup with a regular laptop will work. On the laptop side, are there any mandatory requirements (at least Thunderbolt 3, Windows OS) or alternatives I should be aware of to be able to manage my setup in case my laptop changes? Any recommendations regarding the GPU . (models) I will not use this setup for any gaming purposes (but might use it in the future for ML).Thank you!

I was thinking about getting a razer core x and a 4070 super, and seeing its that simple, i am pretty relieved xd my laptop 2050 is good for cs2, but i tried playing ark ascended, and though this game is pretty unpotimized, i only got 30 fps on lowest settings. But i need the portability of my probook, so an egpu makes sense, especially at home where i also have a monitor :)
