This is why I love Vazi. She brings real negotiating and multiplayer solution searching to the table. I built her with Treasure Vault, Magda, a few political Dragons like Mana Charged and a surprisingly resilient reanimator package. And also filled to the brim with single target removal. My mindset is: Everything is negotiable.

@@bigmacmm5 She joined a few months ago. And I agree! I think she brings an element of fun to it. Love Josh and Jimmy, but they are pretty spiky so having someone who advocates for fun cards for fun decks helps balance it out a lot for a great mix.

One tiny editing touch that I love here is that when Arthur makes his first treasure token, he makes the bing noise, and there's no special effect. Like the editor just went "yeah, that's perfect, no notes."

I loved the deck Jordan used. The embercleave at the end reminded me of my equipment deck. The first time I played it I had the emberclaw familiar as a 9/9 flying and used embercleave because i knew after that I'd always be target number 1. 😂😂😂😂

I built Octavia cribbing from an earlier version of Rachel's list. It's such a fun deck- I play it as no-counterspell blue so it forces you to do play very differently

14:58, what's happening with the double strike? Edit: Yoshimaru didn't have Trample, so was still blocked during the normal strike. Thanks everyone!

He has a background, which is an enchantment, that gives his commanders double strike when they attack.

@@dawnanddusk27 the result was Arthur "taking 2" though, which wouldn't have been correct if there was double strike. Yoshimaru would have killed the BoP and then done normal strike damage through resulting in a loss of 11 (9+2).

Once an attacking creature is blocked, it remains blocked for the rest of combat, even if all of the creatures blocking it leave combat. Since Yoshimari doesn't have trample, after killing the blocker during first strike damage, it's still blocked and won't deal any damage during the normal combat damage step.

I have a Talrand commander deck, which is more or less the same archtype as Octavia. And it was pretty wild watching Rachel going multiple consecutive turns without being able to answer the 20/20 doggo. No Imprisoned in the Moon or bounce spells. Man.

I may have discovered a possible misplay at 31:14, but I'm no judge so I'm not sure, but... When Jordan tried to move to combat and his Yoshimaru was tapped, shouldn't he be able to activate Gideon, since the 'move to combat' was interrupted and he'd be still in first main, and then still attack? Edit: spelling

Beginning of combat is an actual existing phase in the combat step You can activate abilities and cast spells in the combat step before attackers are declared. Main phase 1 is over

Pretty hard since it's 1 mana commander, if you just use your resources to kill it, 2 other players have peace and can deploy their engines on the board.

I don't think that's kill on sight. Trying to keep the dog off the board is difficult when he starts at 1 mana. Let it grow then take it out. Maybe they run out of ways to make him big.

I have a rules question. At 44:18, Rachel casts March of Swirling Mist, targeting 3 of Jamie's creatures. Jamie sacs Linvala to give his two other targeted creatures hexproof. Then it looks like Rachel responds by using Shadowspear to remove the hexproof. But how does that work? Since Shadowspear's ability resolves first, Jamie's creatures won't have hexproof yet. Or is Rachel letting Linvala's ability resolve, then activating Shadowspear?

If you listen she doesn't say in response 44:29. As the animation makes clear the ability of giving hexproof resolves then she activates the shadow spear. You are correct that if she did it in response it wouldn't work.

I just built a Yoshimaru Kediss deck a couple of weeks ago. Small world! I think Kediss is a better approach over Rograkh, as it spreads the damage around. You can still cast Kediss on curve on turn 2. I suppose it's marginally suboptimal for the early plays, but it just deals out so much damage over the course of the game.

Yeah I like Kediss a lot. He's definitely in the deck. I think realistically I could switch out Rograkh for Kediss or Jeska and the deck would still work completely fine. I just prefer how low to the ground Rograkh is and how well he wears counters if you get a chance to transfer them with something like resourceful defenses or the ozolith. I also use to have Cloudstone Curio and Kobolds of Kher keep in the deck for the infinite counters on Yoshi combo, so that was part of the reason. Now I'm just not changing it because the deck is Dograkh in my heart!

14:48 when yoshimaru attacked and was blocked by BoP he had double strike so the second hit should’ve went thru right? I’m new so I might be wrong

A blocked creature is still blocked even if the creature blocking it is no longer on the battlefield

silly question but shouldn't the varzi trigger when he was doing second casts on it with quirion ranger? Like he gave both players 3 but he created 3 more treasures the first tap so shouldn't rachel get 6?

Vazi cares about how many treasures you've created, and Vazi has your opponent create the treasures, so they won't count for future activations.

Damn what a game. Great plays all around and really interesting decks. I've been thinking about building Octavia for a while now and even tho she lost it looked like a lot of fun!
