That's about enough caffeine to kill 2 adult men, lol. 3000mg in a drink has actually happened before. An Australian energy drink company screwed up their math and a bartender died when she drank one of the first cans from that batch.

I gotta mention, you can be a bit more aggressive with the sep funnel. It does form an emulsion if it was done too vigorously, but if the layers doesn't come in contact with each other with the highest surface area possible, the yield will be decreased significantly. I'm talking from experience.

Well done extraction!👍 Entertaining presentation, that's exactly my kind of humour. 😆 Very appropriate safety precautions and warnings. It's a pleasure to watch such planful work and the attention you pay on each step (I especially loved it how gently you washed the tiny filter residue). Three little hints: - An electric grinder isn't very expensive, but facilitates shredding immensely. - Foodsafe substances can be dried very well in the kitchen oven. - Coffein sublimates rather than it melts. I guess it just gave off remaining moisture here.

@@Amateur.Chemistry That's no one way street - ideally we all learn from each other. For example, today I learned from your video how to deprotonate impurities with sodium bicarbonate to keep them less soluble in organic solvents like DCM. Thank you for providing insight! 👍

@@Amateur.Chemistry Btw.: Did you calculate your 101 % yield with anhydrous caffeine or with the hydrate which forms when crystallized from water?

Awesome that you drank it! Confidence in your chemistry! I remember my lab partner and I in organic chemistry saw a whole jar of powdered caffeine on one of the shelves in the lab and so we joked about snorting some. The teacher overheard us and laughed with us but told us that it probably wasn't pure enough to safely snort. lmao Had it not been one of our earlier classes during our year of organic chemistry, I probably would have joked back at the teacher that maybe we should run an extra experiment and run a few distillations to sufficiently purify the caffeine. lol Bet it would have really hurt if we seriously tried to snort it though. Ouch!
@jhoughjr1

Idk in my youth I experimented with snorting caffeine. I found that generic tablets did hurt, but brand name no-doz did not burn at all. Never been a fan of suffloxation. I'd imagine pure caffeine would be simmilar to the no-doz.

I bought >99% pure caffeine offline for making "energy water". A few times I haven't had water to down it with it, the flavor is gnarly. As a result I take little key bumps now and then. It hurts but it works almost immediately.

when you were pounding those tablets in a bag, with a hammer. I'm thinking. Seems that that would be the perfect use for my coffee grinder. It grinds down to 00, for espresso . It would probably still benefit by going over to the (mortar, pestle). But it would be a really good first step.

I overdosed caffeine accidentally once (I did something like 1.5-2g) (i am not a heavy caffeine user... and the pills had more than I expected and I didn't check), it was one of the worst experiences of my life, easily. And I have overdosed on other things when I had more problems in my life, (never lethal LD-50 overdose amounts, but severe overdoses nonetheless, that should have gone to the ER). It was the worst by far, I truly felt like I was dying, because I guess I was. Funny how American healthcare works where I didn't even go to the hospital or ER bc I would rather die than have the debt lmao hey! we have the same brand of kitchen pans!
