We're back at ALDI for an extreme budget haul with recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have been getting lots of requests lately for budget grocery hauls, so i wanted to take it one step further and see if it's possible to shop and eat healthy on a $125 per month food stamp budget. ALDI seemed like a good place to do it, they have fantastic prices and more healthy grocery items then ever before. First I take you through the shopping process and why I choose certain items over others, and then we head back to the kitchen to make a full day of recipes! This video was a beast to make, so I hope you enjoy it and share it. Please know that we are not making light of anyone on a budget, we are actually trying to help show that budget meals are not quite as hard as some people think they are. Mad love Bobby...Dessi...and Art! XOXO

Mountain MawMaw , such a thing you are doing for your grandchildren 🌸, I am farm raised and our kids were very fortunate to have their grandparents as neighbors when we still lived on the farm and then when I remarried and moved with them we lived beside my husbands mom and dad and his sister and husband across the street- it takes a family to raise your kids .

thank you Bobby and Art for looking out for folks that can't afford to go to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or have memberships to other big box stores. Your work to put this together really shows a compassionate, and a understanding of the reality of folks who struggle just to have a meal on a daily bases. Sadly it's a struggle....you both are very much appreciated and loved.

How wonderful of you to do a video like this🥺👏🏾 I grew up on food stamps as a child, and it was very hard at times. Most people will never know what it’s like. When I was a kid it wasn’t debit like cards😏 NO, we had booklets of what looked like paper money, different colors for different denominations!😩 sometimes my mom would send me to shop because she was so embarrassed, there was a terrible stigma around it. Although I still try to keep myself on a budget, I’m so blessed to have what I have now as an adult. But it’s always good to learn how to shop on a budget. Thank you, & keep the videos going.🙌🏾

It's good that your mom was embarrassed about it.. you probably worked extra hard to never be put in that situation again. Embarrassment itsnt always a bad thing, especially when today living on food stamps and government assistance is a way of life for farrrrr too many people who believe their entitled to have someone else foot the bill for their mistakes, irresponsibility, or just flat out laziness.

Hi. I'm Emilio (yeah, name already here) from Puerto Rico. I have to say, I use to follow you because I love your recipes. Then, for some reason I degrees and stop watching the videos because I was one of those people who watch and never do. These past months I've been amazed with the new form of content. I'm not only watching, but learning. What you, guys, do with the alternatives and reviews have thought me a lot about how to read labels and eat better. The lives are also great because it's not the same watching some edit cooking recipe and watch it live. Puts me in a mental state of not only see the final result, but the preparation; also the tools and I can see the timing better. I haven't seen any other cooking channel with this will and sincerity. I'm sure there can be a lot, but what you doing: hauls, education, directions, health realities of our world, it's been refreshing and gives me more desires to take action. Thank you.

Thanks for this. Its very easy for some people to look down on others for bring unable to spend loads of cash at Whole Foods... yet the simple reality is that many people would like eat better but don't understand the tips and tricks and are prevented from learning by insensitive comments and stigma of being on a fixed income. This is even more true for seniors and disabled. Thank you for giving this great information. You're taking great care to cover people with a variety of tastes and budgets, and that's another reason you're #1. ❤❤❤❤

The reality of it is, 60% of people in this country live below the actual poverty line and about 80% can't afford an emergency of over $500. I dont think it has anything to do with stigmas or insensitivity...with that said it is possible to eat better on a budget, but it requires a little more work and knowledge to pull off, that's where the real issue lies

We don't have food stamps in Canada. However I live on an extremely small pension, ~$800. a month Canadian, the equivalent of ~$600. US. Here is my trick to getting by (made even trickier by me being keto). I watch the fliers of my local supermarkets. I look for any great deals on things I commonly use. When something does come on with a great special, I buy at least enough of it to last until it comes back on special, often more just to be safe. In very short order, this gives me both a two to three month supply of virtually everything, 'and', I wind up spending half as much on groceries as virtually everyone else. I should mention that I also have a chest freezer, allowing me to capitalize maximally on specials on meat. (Get one, freezers are not expensive and having one will save enough to pay for itself in just a few months.) What I buy the most tends to be; chicken quarters, which come on sale frequently in my area for 99 cents a pound (Canadian), ground pork for $1.99 a pound, eggs for $1.99 a dozen, cheese for $4.00 a pound. (Food prices tend to be seriously higher in Canada for many things, largely due to our esteemed and most benevolent government's crony collusion with special interests.) Rarely I might get lucky and get pork ribs for $1.99 a pound too, which is a real treat. I also pick up various keto friendly frozen veggies when they are on special. I have over time accumulated a fair stock of things like almond flour and coconut flour and the like (which I keep in my freezer). Butter and olive oil of course are staples. I sweeten with stevia and/or erythritol. All of this was bought in single 'large' bulk format so as to get the maximum volume for price, I 'never' buy anything in a small package. I tend to use a lot of spices, which I buy from a wholesaler who also allows walk-in retail, scooping what I want myself from large vats into bags. Again, I buy large quantities and then package them well.

So this molded right in to my thought process and I shop at Aldi‘s. My personal change would be a bag of $1.49 shredded cabbage for the $1.99 bag of rice. I've been on food stamps when I was going to school (on a grant), and had 2 kids to feed. This video just goes to show it's very difficult to buy organic, non-GMO, grass fed etc.... etc... when you are relying solely on snap benefits for your food budget. And you were shopping at the cheapest store possible! That's why you dont see hardly any people relying on government subsidies walking into whole foods. Not to mention all the people living paycheck to paycheck. There are alot of us out there. You couldnt even make the fried rice with the basics. Like scallions and peas? Just because your the working poor doesn't mean you don't want to eat well. Healthy food has got to be more affordable!

The first time you crack that pasture raised egg into a bowl and see that beautiful orange color you will wonder what you've been eating all these years. I buy Vital Farms eggs and Vital Farms pasture raised butter. The butter is close to the same price as Kerry-gold or Finlandia. And keep an eye out--Jewel recently had Vital Farms eggs on sale for $4.49, a 25% discount and they last forever (almost).

Stephanie Jo Rountree I only buy exactly what I am going to eat and make sure I don't waste anything, but I cannot get my budget into the same parameters that you are in. I need to that's the thing. Part of the problem is when your boils run out or your condiments run out and you have to rebuy those within a month and it really adds up. I don't ever eat out. It's still a challenge, because I only eat whole foods is mainly organic.

Love the spreadsheets...helpful to have the leftover products to use the next weeks, and motivating to use them up! Healthy meals on a budget videos are in such demand since prices are skyrocketing. We just have regular grocery stores around here, so we can look out for sales, but also just need to buy what they have since we never can anticipate which shelves will be empty. We are pretty much priced out of meat around here, though we could go for the cheapest. But the more I learn about the cheapest meats the more I just want to find other recipes without meat and chicken.

Once again thanks for your help. I'm glad you narrowed it down and showed yourself picking more budget stuff. As I myself with pricing the way they are now can't afford any and everything grass-fed or pasture raised. This has helped a lot to help me narrow it all down

My favorite video you've ever done! Please do more of these. Healthy, affordable, and delicious are the trifecta!! This kind of thinking about food really help challenge me to use the things I buy and be conscious of what I'm eating and pay attention to portion size. The result is healthy affordable meals with little to no food waste. Even those of us not on food stamps should pay attention to how much food we waste or throw away. Great content!!

I love this video. Bring relatable to the struggle people go through trying to budget. Although i appreciate the per meal per serving break down. But the true struggle is also the transition. Calculating the break down doesn't account for the initial investment. What would be wonderful is a video about tensioning over time. What things would you gradually at to your shopping list over time. Hope that makes since. I couldn't switch everything over all at once i am prioritizing and adding things over time. Perfect example is i started with changing my oil. Now i use organic avocado oil but since it last me months next month i bought nutrional yeast. Wonderful video thank you both for all your efforts.

Anita Knight I’ve found that switching over gradually helps. My fiancé is use to ground beef, I’m trying to switch over to having more ground turkey than beef in our diet. It tastes good with taco seasoning, so now our taco nights are with ground turkey instead of beef. You can google spices that go well with ground turkey, turkey burgers, etc. I’ve heard cumin, Italian seasoning, chili powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes go well with turkey.

@@lockergr I can't think of any coating on a pan that is ok. Eventually, any coating will wear down and mix with food. Even stainless steel is bad if it has Nickel in it. Nickel is very Toxic to the body. `Nickel-free stainless steel is the way to go.

Bok Yoy Great point about nickel. and I use a ceramic nonstick pan that is called Green Pan. Mine is not flaking but I agree that if it starts to flake it could be problematic. I have another brand of nonstick ceramic as well but I can't remember the name of it. It's a high-end pan that cost like $130. So there are some nicer higher-end nonstick that aren't Teflon. Cast iron and enameled cast iron are two other good options.

Thank you so much for this video! As a mom of two kids under 5 and a husband with diabetes I’m constantly trying to make good decisions for my family. We’ve been on and off food stamps for years and I understand how important it is to eat well but with a microscopic budget it’s so hard to make the choices for what you really want vs what you can afford. So many times I feel shamed by or “less than” people who can afford all the things I really wish I could be getting for my family. In a nutshell, thank you for showing balance between the best products and what is affordable on a tight budget. I loved this video, subscribed and can’t wait to hopefully see more like this!

Tony Yayo you should read the book slow death by Robert.com up because the guy is a research scientist in Canada and was in charge of one of their main food departments for the country and he said that canned tomato products were the most deadly thing that you could eat. He said that you shouldn't even give them to food pantries because they are so dangerous. He consumed this kind of stuff and then did lab testing to see how it affected him. It was scary.
