On this episode, we REALLY emptied out a section of this hoarded basement! I’m a recovering level 4 hoarder and to have let go of this amount of stuff in one session: is an Extreme Declutter for this hoarder 💪 If I can do it…anyone can clear out their spaces!!

One thing that helps me is every holiday once I decorate. I look at everything left over I didn't use and decide if I want to continue to store it. Most of the time, I get rid of these items.

Could your draw us a simple Birds Eye view map of the current categories and what has been decluttered in the basement? It’s hard to visualise via video. A Birds Eye view map of how you want the categories laid out when it’s finished would be fun too!

My mom threw out some stuff of mine (favourite PJs, my only stuffed animal) when I was little (age 4-6), and that really messed me up (for decades I was afraid to keep anything nice at all, and I didn't realize what the issue was until watching your channel), so I really appreciate you making sure your kids are ok with what leaves the house. Also, so that's where the Christmas cave is! For some reason I had no idea it was under the stairs.

It would be great to see you get to the point where you didn't have to store anything in the attic or crawlspace. I think if you had a few more shelving units, you could make that happen. The easier you make it to put things away, the more likely you are to do it. Shifting a stack of bins every time you want to get to one on the bottom makes it less likely.

And shelving with a small bit of room under them would allow things to be cleaned and dried much easier when water gets in, as basements have happen.

In the 80s my mom got rid of my she-ra purple castle while I was at school… I came home & couldn’t find it… she sent me on wild goose chases all over the house looking for it. I was 5 & devastated. She admitted last year what she did. I felt so violated and betrayed all over again at age 40. 😢

Also while I was away at school my Mom gave away my stuffed animals of which I only had 4 stuffed animals, a Barbie and Ken dolls set that my Grandmother had given me for my birthday, also a pajama case plush dog and most everything in my room. My Mom several times came in the room and trashed the room when I was in high school. My Mom is gone now but to this day I am still angry. I understand how you feel.

I agree with others that you could remake the rocking chair and make it upholstered to make it more modern and safe since it could be mould in the cushioning. You and your family will love to be able to use it again. My mom has my grandmas old rocking chair and I think it's from the end of the 19th century. ❤❤❤
@bethstratton3391
@bethstratton3391 Ай бұрын
Ms Heart, great mini declutter and tiny tidy. Can I suggest that you move your rocking chair from under the basement stairs because the mould spores in the air in that area from the things you removed will be absorbed into the cushions and they will go mouldy. Remember as I’ve explained before you cannot see mould spores but the amount of mould you showed in the video highlights they will be present. May I suggest you might want to bleach the floor and walls in that area and spray mould prevention/remover spray on the underside of the stairs to kill any mould spores that will be clinging to the wood and concrete. You really don’t want you or your boys breathing that in because as you already know mould spores are so dangerous.
@ediefolta9494
@ediefolta9494 Ай бұрын
She is allergic to bleach, though. Would a spray of alcohol and vinegar do it?
@bethstratton3391
@bethstratton3391 Ай бұрын
@@ediefolta9494 Yes on the walls and concrete if the alcohol ratio is strong enough, but not on raw or untreated wood it needs proper mould spray, preferably specifically for wood.

Of course you are right about the mold, but condescension does not become anyone. May I suggest you might want to remove your intro sentence, because meanness, like molds, spreads easily and contaminates the surroundings.
@bethstratton3391
@bethstratton3391 Ай бұрын
@@erikamo8488 I am not being condescending, if you think so that is your interpretation and is not my intention. Mrs Heart is an amazing woman with beautiful children, who offers brilliant advice to hoarders and is doing a great job at clearing out her hoard and changing hers and other people’s mind set towards hoarding. I am only trying to offer advice to intended to help her and her children stay healthy that is all. Ms Heart has recently had an operation which means her immunity will be weakened, and therefore she is more susceptible to the dangers of mould. The rocking chair is very sentimental to her and I wouldn’t want to see it ruined by mould spores that is all. I lost a friend to toxic shock which resulted from mould. I wouldn’t want anything like that to happen to Ms Heart or her children.

You let go not only of an incredible amouny of staff, basically, almost everything you went thru. You also get rid easily of so much sentimentql stuff, that I was really cheering up when you were doing it! You rock, Mrs.Heart! And I second what was already written. Keep the rocking chair. Change the cushions, as the indeed surely have mold (or give them to a professional cleaner, to get rid of any nasty things and the spores), and enjoy it. It is a timeless piece. It will be of service in many, many occasions, I am sure. And many more beatiful moments can be made od the serene rocking by in it:) Cheers!

Maybe keep the chair but make new cushion covers for it that are removable and washable? I worry that if you keep something fabric and soft/cushion in that basement, you have a good chance of it absorbing dust and humidity therefore becoming moldy. If you could do indoor outdoor cushions on it that are waterproof, that would be great!
