@@YungDishwasher Dogs are descended from wolves, cats are descended from, well, big cats. In both worlds, there is a hierarchy. When you observe them in the wild, sometimes you can see that the alpha (wolf), would beat, kick and bite the wolf he feels is out of line or undisciplined. In the cats world, in this case lets take a lion pride for example. The one at the top of the hierarchy always eats first, he eats before his children and mate. The lowest ranking members eat last, anyone one that opposes, is put in their place via a beating or something of that sort. Although we shouldn't beat our dogs and cats, I think using inanimate objects are great for discipline.

We’re talking about a pet that gets food and water handed to them compared to a animal that hunts and lives in the wilderness.

@@strawberrymilk2303 In the case of the dogs you can see that they're not affected whatsoever by reading their body language. The poodle's ears stay up, no whale eyes, no head lowering, no tail between legs and no lip licking whe the toy is being smacked. The poodle goes up on an already trained cue which most probably has nothing to do with intimidation methods. However when the poodle gets pushed over it licks its nose a bit showing a bit of stress with being touched or physically moved (which actually a lot of dogs do because many dogs don't really like being touched/pet so I don't consider it neither strange nor a sign of anything). You can see the same relaxed behaviour with the huskies. Especially when they're walking away. Head up, mouth open, ears up and looking forwards (when the person is behind them, indicating they're not worried about nor mistrust the person beating the toy behind them), body straight and relaxed, not hunched over and the tail up. The trained in cue to leave is more obvious there as well. All in all, it seems that this is some kind of trend which is supposed to be funny, but they don't actually use in training. Considering these dogs don't react to it as an aversive, and as a punishment by definition the toy beating should be making them uncomfortable, but as a strange thing that's happening knowing that their owners wouldn't actually hurt them,

Yeah it used to happen but now teachers are legally forbidden to behave in such a way. That's because after studying the effects we've learned that it does damage to children and leads to trauma. Even without that fact when this is done with children, the child has the mental capacity and are sentient enough to understand why they're being punished. These animals have no idea what's happening or why it's happening. That makes all of the difference, if you know why you can learn and correct your behavior but if you don't know why this is happening.

that's stupid to even hit a dog with a newspaper. i train my pups by keeping them in one area while they're in training. they don't have bladder control till their about 16 weeks old. you take them out after they eat, after they play, after their nap, you tell them let's go potty. if you catch them while in the act you scold them, it's enough with changing the tone of your voice they'll know they did wrong. you train them with patience not fear, if you don't have the time or the patience get a cat with a litter box, otherwise this is a stupid way of training. our dogs love us and respect us not because they fear us. freaking idiots out there

and what, let the animal think it's ok or good to bite people? Even if the owner doesn't mind being bitten, others may think otherwise. What if the animal got lose outside and bit someone, the owner can get sued or worst-case scenario the pet is deemed dangerous and needs to be euthanized.
