Yes, thats typically for a hydraulic elevator to stop hard while moving up. We have a hydraulic elevator with a stop switch here and if you hold the "1"-button and switch the stop switch up and down fastly, the cabin jumps and you hear loud bangs. That machine is really crazy.

The motor sounds amazing going up and this elevator is really fast! That's Rare for a Hydraulic. It's great that they added glass to the inner doors.

The reason it has a hard stop when going up is because when the elevator (or lift) goes down it is releasing the pressure (since this is a hydraulic system) and when it goes up the pump is running and when it stops its abrupt because of the sudden shutdown of the pump. as when its going down its slow because its releasing pressure and it very slightly keeps leaking through. (this is my theory and I might be wrong)
