That motor sounds amazing! For an elevator from 1961, it runs so smooth and even stops smooth with the emergency stop. This is definitely one of the best freight elevators. Now 10 years of this lift being known as the best freight lift :)

Yes me too! But for me it sounds very much like a DC motor from the beginning. DC motors was standard on old lifts

I would love to see the engine room of this beast! . At 2:57, when you push the button it sounds like a rotary converter starting up, which would suggest it's main motor is DC powered, even though it sounds more like a big AC motor. Makes me curious ;)

Back about the 1990s, i rode a freight elevator with a doorless cab at the old Famous Barr store in downtown St. Louis. Macy's bought them out and the elevator was modded and sadly the downtown Macy's store was closed.

Nice video and very sophisticated controls most likely a geared overhead or basement traction machine possibility with 2:1 roping. The older DC traction machines used an MG (motor-generator) set which changes the incoming AC to DC. Rotary converters are different from an MG set they convert single phase into a modified 3 phase power, for large industrial 3 phase induction motors. This elevator most likely is a 3 phase AC Motor, MG set don't start and stop when the hoist motor does, however it does cycle down power off after extended periods of non elevator use. Then starts up when a call button is pushed.

Guys. "FART" means "IN USE" in Danish. THIS ELEVATOR IS LOCATED IN DENMARK! Can't people understand that?!?!? If you don't know Danish, learn it. It can be very confusing if you guys don't know the Danish alphabet.

Come and try old elevators in the czech republic! The motor sound so "mouuuu" i love czech old elevators, plus they are called "transporta" and the elevators are from 1970 80's i dont know

Ha ha! It says FART. This lift is an Evans lift. You see the Evans orange light out side of the lift. That is how you can tell if it is an Evans lift or not. But in 1997 OTIS took over Evans. which means the same label in the lift now is the same logo in the lift but it says OTIS. It also took over Expressevans.

probably the lift has had many farts go off inside it over the years maybe the 'fart' light Comes on when the methane detector finds high Level of fart gasses inside the lift
