I remember a 1693..... 1674 is something new to me.... as is the Bison.... that I have never seen before and I started driving legally in 63. I remember a general and this cab seems quite similar. Well preserved... not many dump trucks of this age are anywhere near this condition. thanks for sharing

Back in 1980 family friends bought a new five star GMC logging truck I remember driving it around the farm, I was 10 the GMC’s had a good chassis and steering much better than some KW’s I drove, but then this was new and not wore out.

@snydedon96362 жыл бұрын
Those gmc generals weren’t in good shape when they were new. I drove them, junk. There’s a good reason why GM got out of the class 8 truck business, and then entirely out of the commercial truck business so many years ago.

That is an amazing truck, my good friend and I almost bought a dump like this ,. I am a farmer ,the friend work at a factory , our idea was he was going to work for hire with the truck on his days off. Had it all planned out but didn't go through with the idea,. The truck we were going to buy was a 1980 Chevy Bison, a twin to this video truck. Great video

They were good trucks, alot of engine for a tandem. Fuller went back to the two separate selector switches for the 13 speed. The one button setup had it's problems
@georgewilson11843 жыл бұрын
They produced more GMC Generals then Chevrolet Bisons that is because GMC dealers could service the heavyduty customers Chevy dealers were not equipped or had the personnel to service the heavy class 7 threw 8 commercial customers the Chevy dealers that sold Bisons & Bruins & Kodiaks were always in rural areas mostly Farmers & small construction companies bought them they were built on the same assembly line as the General in Detroit Michigan at the 13th avenue truck plant I believe that I read somewhere I could be wrong there is not enough information on these trucks
@ANate7772 жыл бұрын
These and all of the GMC and Chevrolet heavy duty truck line up were built at GMC Truck and Coach Plant in Pontiac, Michigan. They also built busses there at a separate facility. I had an uncle who worked there for many years and eventually retired from there. As a kid I visited that plant many times for their annual employee family day event (GMC Open House). They had all of their latest products on display and visitors got to climb in and out of the trucks. They also had a short plant tour, food and festivities. I remember seeing seemingly endless parking lots full of brand new GMC products. I recall Fleet Carrier Corporation Transporting the finished trucks piggy back style on low boy type trailers pulled by GMC Astros with sleeper cabs. GMC ran A top notch operation and the employees were proud of what they built.

Chevrolet Bison is ultra rare than the GMC General and it’s got a Caterpillar Diesel engine probably a 3206 3201 or 3208
@thedesertdwellerfromutah43543 жыл бұрын
3208 CAT is a small low HP engine that was used in medium duty trucks. The Chevrolet Bison was a class 8 semi tractor that would have used big power under the hood.
