This was my sibling and I. They only had one surgery at 5 months for this but I was a difficult baby I had a cloverleaf skull and mom had to advocate cuz doctors just wanted to chuck me in an institution as a vegetable.

This is lambdoid and is usually one of the hardest to catch! Its often misdiagnosed as positional flattening. Great catch!

Both of my kids were right side layers when in the womb. When my first, my daughter, went head down, her head was stuck in my pelvis (I have small pelvic anatomy and cannot pass a baby with a big head and shoulders) and she was born via c-section with a 3 inch dent in the side of her head from my pelvic bone. I was so scared she was going to have some sort of brain damage. LOL - all good. smart as a whip and made the deans list in college.

I held my baby. I actually wore him during my waking hours. I put him down to sleep but he slept beside me. My child does not have any asymmetry to his skull. I suspect that the need to put babies on their backs to stimulate them to breathe would be unnecessary without interventions that mess with their brains regulating breathing.

How can parents help them not to have flat heads from sleeping on their backs?

Sleep them on their stomach during nap time ( just watch them) or on their side also watching them

Basically, you would need to reposition them. I wear my baby and he sleeps in the carrier nicely :)
