I’ve been shooting the EZ V for a couple years now. I really love the unobstructed view, had to stop shooting at the same dot with every arrow after a few robinhoods. I found it perfect for the way I hunt in northern New Jersey, the places are so thick with briers that a 30+ yard shot is rare for me.

Thanks for commenting. I have shot one doe with it and missed a buck in low light (still legal light). I am currently trying a trick pin and will do a review on that. I like the EZV but the main reason I’m trying the other set up is to help in low light conditions. However, I was still using tick marks because I haven’t quite yet trained the brain to bracket the target.

Great video, I'm looking at the EZ V for this coming hunting season! Just subscribed, it looks like you have a lot of great content! I sure am glad you found your arrow, I bought one of those thick 4' x 6' rubber horse stall mats that you find at a farm supply store for about 50 bucks and put it up between 2 wooden poles dug into the ground with a 4x4 across the top, it makes an EXCELLENT back stop at a reasonable cost by the time I figured several lost arrows a year, and what's worse is time lost walking around looking for them when I can't always turn them up! Thanks again for a great EZ V Sight review! :)

I gave the EZ V another whirl this summer, because I like the concept of the sight last summer. I do like the sight picture of the EZ V. I found that I am liking it more this year, & I see myself keeping it on my bow going into this season. My vertical groupings have improved. I pretty much rely on the top tick marks for close shots and sort of switch over to using the V for longer shots. The lower tick marks are a good way to double check where you at for longer shots, but letting your instincts take over is best. I seldom pull back on a deer & shoot them in that spot (like a 3rd target). I am pulled back & wait for the deer to stop or offer the best shot. Making good shots at unknown ranges is key, & I am finding the EZ V is doing that for me.

Started shooting my EZV almost 3 years ago. When you stepped back to that far range I was like oh he's about to sail it.. haha .. when I re-sight (went from 400gr to 600gr and then back to 530gr for upcoming year) I start at 30yds since the 20yd is the same on all inserts. When I dropped back to 530gr I sailed the very first arrow into my chicken coop lol.. The 40yd mark is where you will really start to see the difference in the speed of the inserts. Rub some string wax on the insert before you put it in and it will pop out much easier for you when you remove it. Practice and retraining your brain is key with the EZV.. Good vid!!

Thanks. I think it would actually work even better on longer range shots. This year I’m trying a “trick” pin. One aiming point, meaning I always aim at the same spot on a deer whether it’s 8 yards or 30. However, I have to stay within 30 yards. That’s not a big deal to me. My longest shot over the past 3 years was 22.

So much for the heavy front arrow dropping to the ground ha haha😄. 80 yards into a field! U could really tell what yardage u were shooting @ just by the penetration of the arrows into your target. I bought 5 extra target covers when I ordered my 2nd EZV. People that don't like the EZV will still have to range the yardage 3 times & correct the yardage on their slider twice b4 they feel confident enough to shoot. Hope u find those other 2 arrows. Thanks for the multiple items video. I think people will get the point.

I found one of them but ended up building a back stop and it’s worked great. I would still be shooting the EZV if it worked better in low light. Year over year, my eyes get worse and I found it difficult to bracket the target in the first or last 15 min of shooting light.

Great sight for close shots. Really liked it for that, but was never as precise as I am with pins. I had a bad nock high issue with my whisker biscuit. The theory I found was that some bows put some downward pressure on the shaft that causes the whiskers to bend down and then bounce the back end of the shaft up as it goes through. Switched to a Ripcord Ace and cleared it up, and I like this rest a lot more than the QAD HDX I tried. If your 20 and 30 tick marks are hitting good but 40 is off you need to try a different insert. If hitting high at 40 you need a faster insert, if hitting low you need slower. Find the one that works best and then just realize it may be off at farther distance if your speed is in between (245 FPS for example).

Mossy Back thanks man! I’m good out to 40 with this now. Been shooting dots since the I chewed through the paper. For me, I most likely won’t take a shot over 30. That’s primarily due to how I hunt. Rarely am I on field edges. However, I feel confident at 40 so far. I’ll continue to shoot it and also practice while elevated to. The bow has been paper tuned. One thing I’m considering is increasing the draw weight but that may wait until after the season. Good luck out there. Be safe 👍🏼

I hunt from the ground. Western Oregon has a mix of thick nasty brush, open meadows, thinned timber, and clearcuts. My shots can be anywhere from 5-60+ yards. I’d like to keep hyphen 40 and in, but if a good shot presented itself at 60 at an elk I’d take it.

I've been shooting the EZV sight for 2 months now and from 40 yards in is no problem at all, but if im.not holding it TIGHT to that sight pic at 40 than I'm low 3 to 4 inches every time consistently. From all the research I've done on this site one thing has been pretty consistent and that is from 40 yd in this site is a hunter's site for Woodland game mainly white tailed deer hunters From tree stand elevated positions or hog hunters from the same or out of a blind But if I Were doing any other hunting outside of white tail or hog hunting And my shots needed to be taken sometimes at 45 or 50 like elk, Turkey, mule, deer etc Then I will definitely be going back to traditional pin sites or my Range Rover pro red. which I love. The sight picture on the EZV SIGHT Is hands down the best on the market Especially for moving shots or follow up shots, and It's nice with that big site window you can see if there are any obstructions in the flight path of that Arrow

Edit to my comments on EZ V from last year. I practiced hard with the EZ V last summer. I really wanted to like this sight. In the end, I went back to my single fixed vertical pin sight that I have been using for decades. I like simple at crunch time. I don't care for moveable single pins or multiple pins. I thought the EZ V would be an easy transition for me. I never felt great about my vertical groups with the EZ V. After a few months of shooting the EZ V, I tested both of my sights at unknown distances. I am not knocking the EZ V, but I just do better with a single fixed vertical pin. It's somewhat instinctive (aim slightly higher when needed) for me when I use the one fixed pin at unknown ranges. I realize a few months can't compete with decades, but my vertical groupings @ unknown ranges with the EZ V did not make me feel 100% comfortable using it for hunting. I really made an effort to make the EZ V my primary hunting sight last year. I may be an old dog that requires more time to teach a new trick, too!
@thehuntingchallenge
@thehuntingchallenge 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. You have to do what you feel most comfortable with. I’m using a single pin vertical sight this season. Will see how that works out for me. Since I only shoot 35 max yards in the woods, I think all will be fine. So, at the end of the year I will make a decision as to which one works best for me. Good luck.

milomilkman Thanks for watching. I have shot from an elevated position and all is good. Although I haven’t taken a 1/4 way shot at a live animal yet, I have with the target and for me, there wasn’t a difference. No matter the shot, you are framing the vitals of the deer. Just as an insurance policy against potentially losing an arrow to an errant shot, make an arrow stop out of a rubber horse stall mat. There’s plans all over the internet for it, I prefer mine to be free hanging to absorb a lot of the kinetic energy of the arrow so they don’t go too deep. They’re a pain to pull out so it encourages you not to miss, but I haven’t broke one arrow using it but more importantly I haven’t lost any more arrows.

At 20 yards changing to a 240 from a 250 insert shouldn't have made any difference. All 20 yard tick marks are the same on all 9 inserts. You want to sight in at 20 yards by moving the sight if necessary. Move down to bring up, and move left to move right. Afterwards if you are shooting too high or too low at different ranges, you may want to explore other inserts. I would make sure you are dead on @ 20 yards first before messing with different inserts. I've used a single fixed vertical pin (or crosshair) for 30+ years. I have never owned a slider sight or multiple pins. When crunch time comes, I believe in keeping things simple. I become a better shooter when my instincts take over. Deer (& turkeys) are unpredictable. This past week, I am shooting an EZ V sight for the first time, too. I customized mine (fine tip black marker on non-tick side) to having one set of tick marks @ 20 yards. Now, I am shooting like my single fixed pin, but with the added benefit of using the V to help guide me with longer shots. If you like to kill targets, I suggest using a rangefinder & pins. If you want to harvest game, I suggest looking into the EZ V sight. I am not interested in how good my groups are @ 30 yards (or whatever known distance). I am interested in how good my groups are at unknown distances within 40 yards, because that's hunting for me! "Frame it & claim it" - This is how an EZ V sight works. I find visualizing a basketball inside the "V" makes me instinctually punch the center of the vitals at unknown distances, & that's what hunting is all about!
@thehuntingchallenge
@thehuntingchallenge 3 жыл бұрын
M B thanks so much for sharing. Was out shooting today, only at 20 and it’s dead on. I’ll move back to 30 tomorrow and see if it’s on. I also double checked my pins on the diagram and 240 was a better match. Question. If I’m on at 20 & 30, but off at 40, so I need to move up to another insert?
@driftlesshunter9200
@driftlesshunter9200 3 жыл бұрын
@@thehuntingchallenge I struggled with picking the correct insert myself. I don't know the speed of my arrow, & I shot the same fixed one pin sight for the past 10+ years. Thus, I had no multiple pins to line up or slider movement to measure. Aaron's reference to visualizing the deer's vital as being a basketball has helped me some. A basketball is 9.5" in diameter (smaller than the target provided). Thus, I am using an insert that seems to work with the concept of the vitals being a basketball. I want to drill the center of that basketball from all directions. I haven't shot from a height yet, however. Your clip is great for all of us starting out with this sight. I needed to walk away after the first evening of using it. When I came back to it, I did much better. A person can overthink it, & it needs to become somewhat instinctual. Since I shot a single vertical pin for decades, I need the 20 yard tick marks for close shots. A single pin is in the exact center of the sight window, & my tendency is to center the sight window. Thus, I rely on the tick marks for up close, & I feel that I am benefiting from the "V" when shooting beyond 20 yards. I am working towards good groups from unknown distances within 40 yards. I leave longer shots than that to rifle season! :)

The only advantage to this sight it is supposedly not needing a rangefinder. Well if you bow hunt you probably already have a nice pin sight. This V sight costs' $150. Right now Cabelas has three different rangefinders for under $150. Then you also have the rangefinder for other hunting/shooting uses.
@thehuntingchallenge
@thehuntingchallenge 3 жыл бұрын
Ron Swanson thanks for sharing. The other advantages is that it offers a better sight picture for me. By framing the vitals it takes the guess work out of the true range when elevated in a stand. It has also helped people with target panic. This will be my first year using it and I will do a recap on the pros and cons then determine which is best for me. Like many things, it’s not for everyone.

I have a nice Nikon rangefinder, but I have never put a rangefinder on any that deer I have shot. If I have a nice buck coming in range, there's no way I am messing with a rangefinder. I am focusing on when is the best moment to pull back undetected & preparing for a good shot. You may be better about that than me, but I can't predict where that buck is going to stop and give me the best shot. In most cases I am already pulled back. I have been shooting off the top of my garage the past month or so. I move my RhinoBlock target all over the yard. I am drilling the vitals without a rangefinder at unknown distances with the EZ V. To me, that's hunting. I will still range large trees around my stands, but I am really liking this sight. I wouldn't rule out owning a rangefinder, but the EZ V is a hunting sight. I have been bowhunting 30+ years using a single fixed pin. I just aimed high for longer shots, because I believe in keeping things simple (especially when you can excited). This has taken what I do to a whole new level, because I am more precise in range estimates while still focusing on the target. I took the insert that works best for my set up & customized it. I have the 20 & 40 yard ticks marked only. Anything within 20 yards is right on with the top marks. If I judge a target beyond 20 yards, I start adjusting slightly (I like to visualize a basketball). After some practice, your are drilling the center of your sight picture. I don't usually shoot beyond 40 yards, but I still could. The 40 yard marks also tells me that I may be outside of what I am comfortable shooting while I am still pulled back on a deer. I never liked multiple pins or single pin slider sights, but I do like this sight. My old eyes like the sight picture better under all light conditions, too.

I like it. I shot a doe with it now problem. I missed a buck with minutes of light left and missed. That saidX I couldn’t really see the V although there was legal light left. I switched to a “trick pin” (will do a video on that in the spring). Waiting to shoot a deer with that.

Unrelated to the sight itself - The whisker biscuit issue sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. If something can go wrong, it may happen when that buck of a lifetime is standing 20 yards away. A properly set up QAD rest is really hard to beat. Arrows slide across it silently. I haven't changed the felt on mine, & I have been shooting it for over 5-years now. I shot a prong rest for decades, & they were a challenge to keep quiet while drawing back. That's not been an issue with my QAD drop away rest. If a rest caused me to lose two arrows under practice conditions, I would toss it in the trash can. There are too many better options out there. Just a suggestion! I am not an expert, & we all learn from our blunders. I am still learning, too! :)

M B yeah, that was in my old (18 year old) biscuit. The one I’m shooting with now is new. However, with heavier arrows I’m almost thinking it’s not helping with speed. Was also thinking to increase the draw weight, but with the season 30ish days away, not sure how much more I want to tinker.

Hmmmm. Groups like that and ultimately only shooting 40 yards I think a single pin set up may be a lot more accurate for anyone attempting this. It's a gimmick. Just the same as a pendulum sight. Seems like the exact moment for a keep it simple stupid comment. Waaaaay too much room for error for any living animal.

Wes Liesman valid points. I’ll be doing a full review video at the end of the year. Had no issues with it on my first harvest this season. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼

Ive seen this sight reviewed by a lot of solid channels and the consensus ive seen is, its not a gimmick, they all seemed to think so before using it but afterwards they seem quite pleased with how it works.

Jarrod Kiser One of the treasons I purchase it was because of the reviews I saw on other channels. I agree, it’s well built, very solid and EZ to use (pun).

It appears this guy doesn’t know a lot about bow set up and setting up sights. Using a biscuit on such a heavy isn’t a good idea. If it dropped thru the bristles once it can do it again.
