Review of the EZ V sight for bow hunting.
EZ V Sight: amzn.to/2BRduqN
The EZ V sight is dramatically different from most other hunting sights, or archery sights for that matter, on the market. Its major claims are to aid in range finding, to reduce target panic, and to be simple and tough. After using the sight for an entire bow hunting season, I believe the EZ V definitely makes good on the claims for durability and ease of use. To understand the range finding accuracy and other claims, you need to dig a little deeper to find out how they work.

I've used a single fixed vertical pin (or crosshair) for 30+ years. I have never owned a slider sight or multiple pins. When crunch time comes, I believe in keeping things simple. I become a better shooter when my instincts take over. Deer (& turkeys) are unpredictable. This past week, I have been trying something new. I am shooting an EZ V sight for the first time, but I customized it to having one set of tick marks @ 20 yards. Now, I am shooting like my single fixed pin, but with the added benefit of using the V to help guide me with longer shots. If you like to kill targets, I suggest using a rangefinder & pins. If you want to harvest game, I suggest looking into the EZ V sight. I am not interested in how good my groups are @ 30 yards (or whatever known distance). I am interested in how good my groups are at unknown distances within 40 yards, because that's hunting for me! "Frame it & claim it" - This is how an EZ V sight works. I find visualizing a basketball inside the "V" makes me instinctually punch the center of the vitals at unknown distances, & that's what hunting is all about! This is a very nice review of the sight, & I used it to help decide on an EZ V sight purchase myself. The filming of your hunts are well done! Thank you for sharing all this with us!

Best Review I've seen for this Sight. Average Jack did a good one, where he confessed that he strongly anticipated Hating the sight, and wound up really liking it for hunting. I'm in the process of picking my compound bow back up after 3 years of hunting with my crossbow, I'm putting in the work that it really takes to completely overcome Target Panic and I think this site would be a good fit for a more instinctive Target focused execution.

Really well thought out review. I think the concept is very strong for punching deer tags. I also find the assertion that it helps with target panic very believable. There is one additional issue that I really see this sight addressing. At ranges beyond 30 yd, simply putting your pin behind the shoulder of the deer may send your shot into the liver. At extended ranges, your shot will land in the guts. I sight in my bow so that the center of my fiber optic pin is my centerline for windage. The further the shot, the wider the pin appears on the target. When taking a longer shot at game, it takes conscious thought to put the CENTER of the pin in the crease of the shoulder vs. simply placing the pin behind the shoulder. To me, the fact that this sight is designed to frame the vitals of a deer is probably more exciting than the range-finding feature. I’m guessing that while it is not as “accurate” as a pin sight, a lot fewer shots would land in the liver if this sight was universally employed in the deer woods. Edit: Also, I would think this solves the dilemma as to where to focus your eyes when aiming (i.e. the target or the pin). Just curious, does this make aiming easier? I would think that being able to cleanly focus on the target would make aiming much more instinctive. I am REALLY intrigued!

I love the EZ V sight. If you follow the instructions, you can be shooting accurately in less than 15 arrows. In fact following the directions, I put my first 3 shots right in the bread basket. Aaron really made this sight fool proof and the instructions EZ. I cant thank Aaron enough for this fantastic sight.

I'm glad the input was added about shooting this sight @ 3D targets that aren't broadside. If u have a close shot from a tree quartering away u can set the V so the center of it would be on the last rib then the 3D target would show u that u took the animal through the front of the liver & both lungs with an exit tight on the far shoulder.

Excellant review! I have the EZ-V sight & to reiterate what you said, it's very important to practice on a 3D target to get used to boxing in the vital area. Shoot from various angles & at your average tree stand height to accurately get double lung shots. I think this sight almost forces you to think more about arrow placement.

I have this sight. I have not had a deer within range of my ability yet but I am hoping to get a shot this season. I have watched people take shots past their available pin settings, example: they shoot 140 yards but only have pins to 60 in their sight. I call this the "Hail Mary" or "Pray to Jesus" shot and they almost always miss. We were waiting around for the evening i decided to practice at distances outside my available tick marks. Decided to use a bush at 100 for a gauge, ranged it to be sure. My buddy spotted for me and my first shot found the arrow right in the center of the bush stuck in the trunk. I DID use a field tip so i didnt ruin a broadhead. This season the deer all seem to be 100 yards or beyond with too much open ground to stalk closer than 80 yards. Been a weird season this year so far. I usually see the deer here in AZ not more than 60-70 yards, usually closer to 40. From my first shot with this sight my confidence has been through the roof. I let a buddy shoot my bow and after watching how relaxed and confident i have become since i got this sight he has decided to get one. Nice shooting and review.

I use a 6 pin bow sight . I space each pin 5 mm apart . I use it the same way you would a mil dot system on a rifle scope . For a white tail deer in Ky I use a 18 in measurement from top of back to bottom of belly . I know how many pins that space will fit between at any given distance . For example at 18 yards the 18 in space fits between the top pin and the 4th pin down and at 50 yards its 1 pin space . You can make the spacing of the pins any distance that works out for you . As long as you have the same space between the pins it will work . Once you know what the body fills at say 15 yards to 60 yards a quick gaping and you are good to shoot . I set my top pin for 15 yards and just let the other pins distance fall where the arrow hits and just know their yardages may not land right on a even number distance it only takes a second to know the deer yardage and what pin goes with that yardage . It doesn't have to be a deer as long as you know the body size of the animal you can know its distance and what pin to use . Lets say a coyote comes it to view while your in the stand . You know its about 10 inches belly to top of back . Lets say it falls half way between the first and 2nd pin How far away is it ? Thats right about 50 yards because you know 18 inches takes up 1 pin space at 50 yards if it takes up half the distance and is half the the size 10 inches if you use your 50 yard pin you might just hit it . All my pin heads are the same size right now but I'm going to change the pin head sizes from as big as I can get for the top pin and get smaller and smaller for the lower pins . This way I can use the pin head sizes to gauge for smaller animals and longer distances on deer or coyotes . I know since my pin size is 2mm that's half the distance between the bottom of the 1st pin and the top of the 2nd pin so at 50 yards the coyotes body should be the size of the pins head .

I love my ezv. Once you start shooting it and giving it a chance. I tried to go back to pin sights, kinda just for shooting target and spots.. but I honestly found I was shooting just as freaking good and had more fun shooting with the V.. its definitely different and alot of ppl are not willing to spend the money like this on something this different.. I wish they could cut the cost in half and it would be twice as popular. It was a easy decision for me was like love at first sight ha.. I never Robin hooded a arrow but since I started shooting this sight ive got 3 now.. makes me mad because arrows are not cheap lmao.. if you are willing to give this sight a chance you might just never look at another set of sights again. Maybe I'll do some videos with mine on my channel too with the ezv..

I’m trying to get used to my EZ V, but honestly, I currently feel I’m more prone to shoot high on a deer than with my old pin sight. With the EZ V on my 3D thus far I tend to aim for center mass vs. lower one third, which seems easier with a pin. Any suggestions? Thanks for the video.

You shouldn't be focusing on the center of mass. Use the V just for your initial ranging unless you happen to know the exact range and can use the marks, and then focus on the exact spot you want to hit just like you would with pins.

I've played with pendelum sights on and off for several years and found with the speed of alot of the new bows it exstends their effective range and also that them only working from an elevated position isn't always true depending on the sight. I've killed deer out to 45 yds with a pendelum sight on the ground as well as from a stand. It is kind of nice to not even think about the exact yardage of the target and concentrate soley on making a good shot.

The only advantage to this sight it is supposedly not needing a rangefinder. Well if you bow hunt you probably already have a nice pin sight. This V sight costs' $150. Right now Cabelas has three different rangefinders for under $150. Then you also have the rangefinder for other hunting/shooting uses.

Yes, the peep aperture should look round so that you can align it with your sight housing for the best repeatability shot to shot. Also, if there's a big gap between the two, or if the peep covers up the ring of the sight housing, you can change the peep size to get that better alignment.

@DIYsportsman it's been a couple of years. Are you still using the EZ V sight? Has your opinion changed?
@DIYSportsman

Still pretty much the same opinion. I've been using a Black Gold Mountain lite 5 pin since I can use it for everything throughout the year and not have to swap sights. But I've thought about making a whitetail specific setup where I either put this on or a fixed single or double pin sight for simplicity.

I wonder how it would be for tuning fixed blades?

When looking at fixed blade flight I'm mainly looking for clean flight and impact point. This site works as do others. If you're doing that testing and tuning by shooting spots at 20 yards, it will be a little more challenging than with pins IMO. Often when I am shooting fixed blades I'll stretch it out a bit further, and with this site, the V is a little easier to center over a spot at those ranges so it works alright.

Over the years have you changed your mind? I'm a new hunter and this looks like a perfect option for me, with a max potential range of 30 yards in my spot in Ohio. Thanks.

Yes its still a great option for that scenario. For guys who are doing more hybrid shooting, like 3d shoots, TAC, going out west etc I think a multi-pin slider is more versatile and precise. But I certainly wouldn't feel handicapped hunting with an EZV for whitetails out to 30, and you might find the sight picture beneficial.

Thanks for the reply! getting into this has been fun but tricky because it seems like most opinions are based on feel, like 90% or more. @@DIYSportsman

I used it most of last fall. During the summer I use a slider sight more. Undecided if I'll use the multipin slider or EZV this fall. Also considering the Garmin but I almost like the other two better for most of my hunting scenarios. The reality is I'd be confident with either at this point. If I did more western hunting I'd probably lean more towards the multi pin slider.

I wonder if these sights can be put on recurve bows . If anyone knows if they will fit a Martin Jaguar elite bow 40 pounds @ 28 inches hit me back & let me know I’m interested in this . I plan it hunt hog & I would like to know all about this . I don’t know if you can install these on recurves because i think recurves have a lower FPS than a compound bow so I don’t now if they make these for recurves , I’d love to have one made of a recurve bow though .
