I hate the term 'bang for your buck' but...this lens certainly packs a wallop for what you're paying. Can it possibly be any good? It gives an APS-C image circle, and is only for mirrorless cameras (Fuji X, Sony E, Canon EOS M, Nikon Z, Micro 4/3)

For that price it is really great and it is more of an artistic lens, where you can play with the color cast and lens flaring, because sharpness is there with smooth bokeh. No loss for the money.

Thanks for mentioning FF in comments, otherwise would have missed it, that's exactly what I was looking for so re skimmed the video. APS-C I'm my opinion, stands for accidentally purchased silly camera. before mirrorless was a thing, I got one and within a week I realized I need FF to make the best of my lenses. Luckily in the time it took to save up mirror less stormed the market, and got a Sony, still want a Fuji to see how usability compares.

I find that the full frame coverage of APS-C lenses is severely underrated, so thank you for including this -- and please keep doing this even if the results are disappointing. The strength of mirrorless cameras lies in portability as well. I'm just so curious how this lens would pair with the Sony A7C. Given that you'll have to crop the vignetting away a bit, it might just be a perfect small manual focus combination to carry with you in a bag.

Can you do a full video of this lense on full frame? It seems the image circle is juust big enough to shoot 1x1 aspect for example. So my question is: If shooting with larger aspect ratio than APS-C, how bad do the corners get? And more generally can you get more out of that beautiful bokeh and slim depth of field? It seems like this is a great F2 lens for APS-C and worth it's price for that alone. Even for video it seems usable when one isn't too close to subject, and the focus breathing is more manageable. 7artisans have released some very neat lenses in past year or so, and I thank you for covering them.

I wonder if they used the large image circle to attempt to avoid the problems normally associated with such a wide aperture, figuring more of the problems would be pushed to the unused edge of the image circle. So much image struck the full-sized sensor though, makes me curious for a true review on a full-sized sensor, at least to the point of the test card's white circles remain in-frame. I could see someone with a full-frame sensor wanting to use the area that wasn't cut off from vignetting since it's greater than the APS-C area, even if they have to manually crop in software.

I get that it's not exactly an expensive lens, but (at least in my region) for virtually the same price you could get the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN C which has autofocus and is probably noticeably better at F1.4, and also has probably better warranty procedures and build quality. I think that F0.95 has to be *very* high on the priority list for getting this one over the Sigma that's a much better lens overall.

@@addz17 Fall apart? You didn't see the stellar sharpness in the corner and center at widest aperture? The sigma 30 is not even that good, it is oudated compared to their newer primes. There are valid reasons to get a 0.95 lens, mainly full frame depth of field and low light. Furthermore these Chinese companies use vintage lens design with character.

Other than that on my Fuji XT-2 I find it quite easy to nail the focus. But it's good to try out the lens a few times on tripod to see where you want the focus to be on your subject. The results are fantastic tho. It makes the light super soft & bokeh so smooth. Great for moody photos.

@@erenteker6908 Yes, definitely a compromise, but something which people enjoy. I came across a Russian/Slavic channel doing so with another rangefinder lens on a DSLR quite recently.

This is one of those lenses that makes me wish I had a entry level mirrorless instead of my D3300. Seems really fun to use

You could get an older mirrorless APS-C camera. Often these have slow AF, but if the idea is to use manual lenses only, that doesn't matter.

@@pizzablender I had an A6000 a few yewrs ago but couldn't get to grips with the lack of ergonomics, so I sent it back and got the D3300 instead. Not a lot of budget here Practically the same Sensor, but in a package that has an actual grip

This lens can potentially appreciated if they just completely stop the production.

Why can't fuji themselves produce something similar, speed and size wise? They backtracked on the 35mm f/1 (opting for the 50 f1 instead) stating that it was technically very difficult to manufacture in a usable size at a consumer friendly price. Yet here we have a small Chinese outfit producing a 35 f0.95 no larger than the XF50 f2 with OK-ish results. People would gladly spend 1k + for a genuine XF 35 f1. I guess they just have extremely high standards.

I don’t get the point of f0.95 lens if they need to stop down to f2 to be good enough😅
