On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Of course the Tomcat still has it! Those planes were made tough, so tough in fact that it could take twice the G loading that the Navy rated it for. The NATOPS G limit for the Tomcat was 7.33G, but according to Grumman test pilots it was a 13G aircraft. Makes you wonder what could have been had the Super Tomcat 21 (Grumman's proposal for a redesigned and improved F-14) actually made it into production instead of the Super Hornet.
@smittywjmj
@smittywjmj Жыл бұрын
That's the case for a lot of planes, it's called an engineering margin. F-16s can pull 12+ and there's one instance of an F-15 pulling somewhere between 15-20 G briefly. The manual numbers are always just what the plane can sustain without needing a maintenance inspection, and the difference between that number and the actual number where the plane comes apart is the engineering margin.
@doc7000
@doc7000 Жыл бұрын
@@smittywjmj Another reason why a lower number is used is to extend the life of the airframe as well as some of the equipment onboard not being able to handle those Gs (like the F-14s inertia navigation system. Also for the airframes how many Gs they can handle is impacted by their weight at the time (closer to max takeoff vs empty weight).

As a young Marine in the Corps, I was among the few who got to work w/ the Tomcat and calling in Close Air Strikes before the F18 took its place. I will NEVER forget the sight and sound of this aircraft on the field... so beautiful and elegant. It brings a smile to watch this (in simulation) take down one of the worlds most premiere air-to-air aircraft. COST IS KING - when it came to the demise of this bird. I’ve always said thus, the f-14 is heavily underrated as a versatile plane ever since I bought it 2 to a year ago. The bombing capability with the lantirn, laser guided bombs, A-A Phoenix, aim-120-7, aim-9x (with mods) is just an overall great plane. It quickly replaced my f-18 yet I still fly both but less now since I bought the f-16 and soon f-15 :). Still a great plane

He did everything in his power to kill the F-14 and insure it's replacement was not made by Grumman. Which is a shame. There were several proposals to refit the F-14's or build a new version of them. Fly by wire, glass cockpits, a massive AESA radar, the whole shebang. Apparently their kinetic performance would have been nearly unparalleled by any other 4.5 gen fighter. Agility to match nearly anything and plenty of speed with endless legs. But, sadly, Dick Cheney existed. I can only assume someone paid him well.

I like the gladiator reference with the dead F15s laying around.

I would love to see the F-5 with the Aim 9X doing combat that's if Tiger 2 is capable of carrying Aim-9Xes.

The Tomcat was shaking so much that I thought it would fly apart. It did a splendid job though. What a great machine.

The Tomcat definitely has its work cut out for it when it comes to the Eagle. Great video.

Snort used to beat F-15s all the time, but he cheated good by his own admission, he’d crush them in the one circle like you did the first fight but he could do it reliably

@Klaus Klavier if you ain't cheating you aren't trying hard enough. Not to mention if you are in a fair fight your tactics suck.

The F-15 vs F-14 dogfight never gets old. F-15 still gives all you can handle, even with flaps and differential thrust. Two beasts

Growing up in the 80's of course the F-14 is the favorite aircraft ever built. Saddess day in naval history was the day the Tomcat was retired. Just imagine what could have been if they had kept her going with modernization. As much as I like the hornet and subsequent super hornet nothing compares to the Tomcat.

Instead of using full flaps, can you use DLS flaps so that you can retract them if you need to go fast? Great video. Hell yeah, she’s got it! “She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.” Love ❤️ the meme!!!

That wing design is quite unique. Reminds me of an Albatross.
