Hi folks, this is a re-upload. I accidentally deleted this video (after over 50k views!)
This 2014 Ford F-150 had high speed fans roaring constantly and the air conditioning was barely blowing cool. I found a lot of information online about changing the expansion valve to cure this issue and sure enough, it works.
Since filming this video last year, I’ve done this same repair a half-dozen times with hood success on F-150’s from 2013 to 2016.

Awesome video. I bought the valve and took it to work with me so I could find the right bolt to use like you did with the brake line. We have a huge assortment of bolts in our tool crib. Found the exact size (in metric) and cut the heads off so now I can change out my valve.

Thank you!!!! I bought an 11 at auction and the AC held a charge, but no love. Anyways, followed your procedure and worked great (dont know why i was sure the brake line needed an SAE thread, once i cut a metric thread i was golden)

Thanks for the video. I am about to change my expansion valve as well. My ac is semi cold and the compressor stays running continuously and doesn’t cycle on and off. I was told it’s the expansion valve not closing and it needs to be replaced.
@RedeemedMechanic

Haven’t seen that type of valve failure on these trucks, but it won’t hurt to change it. While you’re doing that, add a small amount of PAG 46 oil with fluorescent dye, just in case you have a leak somewhere. Make sure to put the system in a vacuum for at least 20-30 minutes to boil out moisture. Then charge with exactly 24 ounces of R134a. These trucks are fussy about the charge level. Best of luck!

You’re gonna want the other two sealing washers. I don’t understand why they don’t include them. I keep a kit with multiple sizes so I had them on hand. A lot of times you can buy an “installer kit” that will have every sealing washer and o-ring for the whole system for very cheap.

@RedeemedMechanic
@RedeemedMechanic 11 ай бұрын
3/16” SAE thread isn’t the same as 5mm X 0.8 thread. It would be a bad idea to use the wrong thread pitch and risk damaging the threads on the little block plate. Nobody wants to deal with cross threaded bolts when doing that job.

I recently looked at a friends truck (2013) with similar complaints. Turns out his evaporator is covered in dust and grime because these trucks don’t have cabin filters. We brainstormed a few ideas on how to clean the evaporator without pulling the dash, but since he’s a bit of a mechanic himself he will probably try it himself. If you have a digital inspection camera you can remove the blower motor resistor and have a glance at the condition of the blower side of the evaporator. If it’s really fuzzy looking, you probably have the same issue.

@@RedeemedMechanic i have a 2003 ford. So this valve what actually does is control the AC speed coming out from the vents..?
@neilboghean8193
@neilboghean8193 Жыл бұрын
@@santiagodavila1426 no, it meters the refrigerant and controls the flow to allow system to pressurize correctly so your evaporator which is inside can get nice and cold. A fan blows across the evaporator, creating that nice cold air. Your fan speeds are controlled by your computer, as is just about every single thing on this truck.
