I'm not affiliated with the Military but I have dug into the process a lot online. This isn't for the Air Force, but in the navy academy if you have good marks and you get into the fighter program, I heard they will pay for LASIK. Now, if you get LASIK yourself then it's an instant disqualification, BUT if you get LASIK from them you are in. Which is strange since it is the same operation but I digress, also you only need to have 20/20 for training. Many Fighter Pilots wear glasses or corrective lenses once they get into their 40's. Don't give up, Bill, it's not like the 1970's anymore. Being a fighter pilot you risk killing people (whether you like it or not). I'm not okay with taking that risk because i live by my own principles. Others might be okay with that and that's just fine by me. But, if you join the military you risk killing people when it comes down to it...that's just the truth.

A drone will take your job if you start learning to be a fighter pilot now, unfortunately. That’s is why I decided against it.

They technically didn’t need moving sticks at all. A while back when the F-16 was getting FBW the stick didn’t move it just responded to the force applied, but pilots didn’t like that so sticks still have a little bit of freedom to move despite the fact they don’t need to at all.

I remember an interview with an F-35 pilot saying that keeping under Mach 1 was a challenge because of how easy it was to exceed with a momentary distraction.
