@@Tigershark_3082 Well I might be mistake if he flew the F-5A in Vietnam. But he did instruct in those at Williams AFB mid seventies. He was shot down in Vietnam in a F-105 Thunderchief. He made his way up the ranks from enlisted to officer. You got to admire someone like that.

@@TheHawk1202 I think the same, the air force still uses the A37, changing the "old" for "old" does not seem like a good deal. I would prefer something a la JF17 Thunder, the new Block 3 has many improvements (or you can take it to Israel to have something in the Elbit Systems style), they are relatively cheap to acquire and maintain. The 2 C130B were retired, and 2 modernized H series were acquired from Spain, there are 8 Huey UH-1Hs that have already turned 50, they would be in negotiation for at least 3 BlackHawks. The navy acquired 2 new factory Bell 412s, with the intention of more than 6 units, also the intention to acquire 3 OPV80 Lurssen maritime patrols. In recent years the Air Force and the Navy have allowed them to reach the edge of the operational limit, the new government happily intends to modernize them, but of course without neglecting other priorities of the country.

The F16 was its direct competitor. At that time the F16 was a revolution. First Fly by wire plane, first naturally unstable fighter with computers to correct the path, making this fighter the most agile fighter of the world back then. And it was Mach 2. But it would have been great to see both aircraft flying together.

@@TheHawk1202 The F-20 was mach 2-capable as well. While the F-20 had some more advanced systems (Intertial Navigation System, HUD/MFD layout, longer range and BVR-capable radar), the F-16 had adaptability on its side. The F-16 was basically designed to be modified/upgraded to the consumer's specifications, whereas the Tigershark was designed with very specific avionics in mind.

That's not true The F-5E and F are both the Tiger II, but the F-5C (slightly modified F-5A) was nicknamed Skoshi Tiger

Mig 21 is a mach 2 fighter and the F5 is a mach 1.7 ... Not really. But the Mig 21 counterpart is the F4 Phantom, which is way bigger than a F5.

@@TheHawk1202 Top speed isn't everything. MiG-21s also wasted plenty of F-4 Phantoms in the early stages of Vietnam. The F-5 would've been a perfect counter to the earlier MiGs.

Mano vc pode botar qualquer míssil no F5 não vai mudar nada. A suíça tabem "upgraded" o F5 no máximo mais tem um moment que tem que parar. o F5 ta muito velho, essa e a realidade contra a maioria dos aviao de caça moderno ele ta fodido. Toda a avionica dele esta obsoleta.

@@luiscarvacho5846 Because, it's used for DACT, or DISSIMILAR Air Combat Training. DACT trains pilots against aircraft that aren't first world front line fighters. Certain parts of TOPGUN (and other schools do that)
