The asshats in our gov had perfectly good ones, pair for, upgraded, and they purposefully made excuses, mothballed em then tried toneell them at lunatic prices knowing they wouldnt sell then PAID more tax $$$ again to some relative/friend to destroy these perfectly good beautiful machines. They refused to let anyone have them no museums, no former staff that had strapped theirnasses into them like my dad.. no one they paid millions to destroy them instead of donating them to perfectly good safe homes. That same gov I've learned since also the same time period changed the rules for pensions interest gained when a person dies so their friends that own the pension investment firms get to KEEP the interest tax free for the pension base for upto a year and not a cent goes to the pensioners estate anymore it's legal robbery of the middle/lower class yet again

Northrop built the YF-17 in 1975 which flew against the YF-16 built by General Dynamics in a competition for the air force air superior fighter. The YF-16 won the air force contract and became the F-16. Northrop joined up with Mcdonald Douglas to build the F-18 (YF-17) for the Navy.

The s demise was due to dirty politics not because it was lacking as a fighter design. In many ways it was superior to the "competition" aka F16 As for the f-8 ir is a child of the F5 design and in essence a sibling or cousin to the f18

The F-5E is only called "Tiger". The Tigershark refers to the F-20, a prototype made by Northrop which consisted in a modified F-5, powered by an F-18 engine, the F404.

The F-5A/B were the Freedom Fighters. The F-5C was called the Skoshi (Small) Tiger and was given a combat evaluation in the Vietnam conflict. The F-5E/F were the Tiger IIs, and the F-5G/F-20 was the Tiger Shark.

Totally agree. I actually, if practical, wish Canada could get a fleet of f5 or f20 with modern upgrades. Why not? For the price of 1 f35 , we can have like 5 F20/F5's

@@stingingmetal9648 Well the 5 is obviously a non-starter.. the 20 as well since even if we had it now it would need a major upgrade and even then it would not be as good as another choice The Gripen E/F as I said before.. think of it as a current day spirt of the 5. built very much the same in many ways only better.. and it is the only official choice avail that actually can do the job and make sense in damn near every way possible. Not to mention again we can easily build the Canuckified version here and even help work with SAAB to improve it beyond it's current capabilities which are exceptionally good esp vs the 2 pathetic bad choices we have officially.. Now for the F20... if it had been wiser ppl in charge back in 77+... then we might have had that but better still we could have had a Canuckified F-18L instead which would have eliminated the only real downsides for the 20.. (single engine and lower max load due to low wing mount).. but again I was not in charge etc obviously.. so lets hope that the idiot in office now continues to be a predictable asshole as mentioned before and that politics works in our fav for once in my lifetime!

The ground crew may have been wearing ear plugs instead of headsets. Plugs are not as effective at deadening sound, but they help. Then again, they may not have been using noise protectors which isn't real smart.
