Funny that this is one of my favourite etudes, if not the favourite! Though it might be because I don't play pieces of this level since I've only been learning piano with a teacher for 1 year. I like listening to this etude. It is very lively, like one of the names it's been given, and with your analysis it helps to understand the piece to appereciate it more!

Thank you very much for this video! I'm learning this etude now. It’s wonderful to see how easily and beautifully you play what I try to play with great difficulty. I'll practice)

Do appreciate your enthusiasm and generosity for giving us the tutorials! We have learnt a lot! I think I can never be capable of playing this double-sixth etude!

It is truly wonderful to see how you employ your upper arm, elbows and wrist as you explain the use of the right hand and the left hand. Your phrasing is so beautiful as always. Amazing how you connect one not to the other. Again the music history combined with technique is a gem. Thank you Maestro, you truly want to help pianists achieve. Playing this like a Nocturne is illuminating and enriching. Thank you.

I will definitely spend the time to learn this now! I have been learning the diminished 6ths part of 10 no 3, (you suggested to start there which I found very helpful) and even just playing that part a few times really gets my hands in shape to practice other pieces. So I do understand how this study helps with everything. (I'm lucky too because my stretched 2nd and 5th fingers play a perfect 6th) thanks a lot for the great content!

I love your counting ! This Etude lives up to its name! A study piece to improve finger flexibility. The clashing of the fifths are probably to gear up for many of his morr difficult works so that we don't feel shocked or confused when we play the odd chords. Genius !

Thank you so much foe doing this analysis, I will use this as a reference for my practice, this is what I consider the hardest Étude (harder than Op.10 #2 and Op.25 #6 in my opinion), as a matter of fact, I even got injured practising this once, luckily I felt much better later on. :)
@gregniemczuk

Yes, you can easily get injured! Be careful, for me it's also hard, harder than other ones!

Hi Greg, thanks for sharing your insight in these pieces! I am curious why you think this etude is more usefull than the thirds etude? Could you perhaps elaborate on why you find this etude useful? Are there other etudes by Chopin you find indispensible in regards to developing your technique?

Structure perfectly clear, thank you 😊 This may not be the most beautiful etude indeed, it sounds like someone trying to do something simple but having a bad day and never achieving it until the "mountain". Or like an old movie without sound. Or both🙂 But if we can improve as pianist let's go!

This inspired me to look at the score of and when practising the left hand , something struck me on the last page Ist 2bars at FF sempre legato reminded me of Schubert's Ave Maria 🧐

I just learned this etude because I read it was especially challenging. It really feels good for my health to practice this. I can understand where Hans von Bulow was coming from! This is a piece that teaches you how to make the most of the physical equipment you have. I have large hands, so I actually cross fingers over in the left hand pattern; in other words, especially in the section that starts in B-flat minor, I avoid using my fifth finger on the sixth immediately following the initial bass note unless necessary. I do this because I don't want the left hand to sound panicked and too loud. Keeping the touch light and the fingers always close to the keys is helpful. The metronome marking seems a bit insane to me. Do you consider the correct tempo to be within a range?
@gregniemczuk
@gregniemczuk 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree!!! It is insane!!! When I think about it now, maybe this is the maximum tempo which Chopin wanted us to reach to improve this technique? Hard to say... I wish he were alive so that we could ask him about that.... Thanks for watching and for your comment!
