Félix Savón arrived in Sydney with the experience from two previous Olympic gold medals at both the Barcelona and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.
This time the desired Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medal would not only consolidate Savón as an amateur boxing icon; but also make him one of the only three boxers to win three Olympic gold medals alongside fellow Cuban Teófilo Stevenson and Hungarian László Papp.
This was a fight which surely defined Savón's role in Olympic boxing history.

Felix was the greatest. This was his last fight. See his technique. There was a joke when Felix Savon was young that US boxers used to turn” pro” in order not to have to face Felix Savon at the Olympics or Games.

When i was little i had a cat named Felix And when i first saw Mr Savon box he instantly became my favourite boxer of all time. He moved like a cat. Every olympics i was hoping he would be back.

C'mon Bro, Teófilo was not corrupted by the money, hes was the very best. Muhammad is my hero, i love that fighter, but Teófilo Stevenson was a God. I can put them together in the first place if you prefer, both are the best..

Savo and Stevenson are so good like Ali and with more power punch.Ali never knockout in his Olympics Game, Stevenson and Savon knockout to everybody.

Its because Ali was so young and he learnt boxing at age 12 then fought in olympic at age 18 so he was still learning beside he did plenty of knockout in pro , he is greatest of all times better than all sportsman

these cuban fighters are like 8th grade bullies who have been held back for 5 years when they should have already graduated high shcool beating up on fifth graders.. They didnt turn pro because they would have got thier asses handed to them.. Look how savon faded against chagaev when he had to go five 2 min. Rounds.. Tyson would have had fun

JDOGMACK75 You need to do more research my friend. In Cuba athletes can't turn pro, the only way is to defect. Is Savon the only Cuban boxer you know, you need to look at the history of Cuban pro boxers and recent boxers too, look at Guillermo Rigondeaux and Yoan Pablo Hernández, they have great records.

Cubans boxers aren't impressive only because they win boxing international scene as the main boxing powerhouse,since 40 or plus years,,,,indeed they are all more impressive because their first olympic titles they win it at very young ages,,,like Robeysi Ramirez at 18 in london 2012,and now in Rio 2016,he won AGAIN at 22(So here you have a two times olympic gold medalist that could go for 2 more golds still ,probably gaining in experience and improving his already amazing talent ... When he fought in London 2012 he fought against olders and more experienced boxers,,,but HE IS A CUBAN PRODUCT,so the SKILL SET was there,even at 18...And nor he or we the cubans fans cry or search excuses if he or any cuban lost his bout,,because we know that its not a matter of age,but a matter of SKILLS and that's is cuban boxing main virtue. That,s why Savon and Stevenson won their Olympics titles 3 times in a road,,,since they were 20 and 21 and theirs rivals, many times were older.... Crying its not in CUBAN'S DNA when we lost in sports nor ,try to give excuses for a defeat,,,even less,attack with lies and fallacies a rival boxer,if he wins ,legit.....Hope you'll understand relativity and reality check,when its about cuban school of boxing.

Two olympics gone.....cuba hardly got 1 or2 gold.......thats why, i m saying....highly favoured towards hosts
