So this is what all the constructions that interrupted my regular Strip walks for months are for. The price tag for a Vegas F1 weekend package is well into 5 digits per person. The video shows what I saw from the sidewalk -- worth a few hundred bucks I assume.
F1 (parent company Liberty Media) paid $500 million and the city chipped in $40 more for the project. It's a big gamble. From what I saw, the Strip was not as crowded as usual. Many non-F1 tourists were probably turned off by the high room price. Locals were advised to stay away from the Strip and vicinity this weekend due to road closures.

Looks like Turn 12. We were in a bar off-screen to the left and could see lots of people outside CVS watching the race for free, as well as from the skybridge (right of frame), the escalator, and whatever else was elevated -- maybe some patio associated with the Fashion Show mall. There were a lot of people watching for free. Sadly, I expect F1 will try harder next year to block the views rather than making the tickets more affordable.
