Formula 1 has revealed its blueprint for major changes in 2021, but those well-intentioned plans could all fall flat if it fails to fix the way it distributes prize money among the teams. The current contracts between F1 and the teams were agreed with Bernie Ecclestone, at a time when he needed to do whatever it took to get long-term commitments from the main players. The result was a disproportionate amount of money being paid out to the most important teams, which has created an imbalance that now plays out on the track. This video explains how the current system works, and it’s pretty clear to see why it needs to change

For a good few years the main story of the grid was the rivalry between the Hamilton and Rosberg, who pushed themselves farther than ever before. IF teammates are allowed to compete with one another, we can still have a good time. The problem is most big teams (cough Ferrari cough) DON'T do that and favour one driver over the other.

It will be difficult to make changes in this area, since teams who benefited will inevitably resist. After all the ideal system would require the axing of the arbitrary bonuses, splitting this money between a fixed prize (given to each team) and a variable one (which depends on how well the team has performed).

I can’t be arsed to google it but I’m willing to bet we have seen less smaller teams on the podium since the hybrid era rules than previous years. The money has always been uneven in F1.
@hanswurst6712
@hanswurst6712 4 жыл бұрын
The main reason for this is that the cars in general got more reliable. Nowadays a technical breakdown (engine, gearbox or whatever failure) is much more unlikely then back in the 90s or 2000s. Not even talking about the 70s and 80s, where a car broke down like every 3rd race or so. So nowadays the topteams are finishing much more consistantly at the topspots then back in the days. So there is less chance of grabbing a podeum, or even a win by luck for the smaller teams.
@turbotoez3539
@turbotoez3539 4 жыл бұрын
Hans Wurst all the teams have been pretty much evenly reliable since 2000 of course there are instances but overall they are pretty much all reliable. I wouldn’t say it’s the teams being consistent. The problem lies in the fact that Lewis or Max or Vettel can start from the pit lane and still get to 1st-5th. whatever is causing that gap between the top three teams is the problem. It can’t be money because McLaren have shit loads of money. Renault just pumped a billion dollars in.. its not money it’s the engine Formula. Merc and Ferrari have the power units so they win the most. It can’t be anything else. Then... the smaller teams are having to buy these engines at a huge cost and not getting the same performance from them as the manufacturers are. (The new rule change should stop that) but still. I cannot see how it is anything but the engine formula that is holding the others back. And it won’t stop until it’s changed to new engines that are simple designs then independent builders can make them for the teams. Or at very least it will be transfer the pressure back to manufacturers to make sure the product is the best it can be because the competition in the market is there. This redistribution of wealth shit and it’s not fair sounds like socialist bullshit to me. It’s never been fair, life is not fair stop blaming failure on others success. Rant over

@turbotoez3539
@turbotoez3539 4 жыл бұрын
Hans Wurst yeh the did. But we are not in the 70s 80s or 90s so it doesn’t matter. The cars hardly even resemble those cars anymore. There was plenty of small teams winning and podiums from 2000 onwards because of weather. Pure speed. Breakdowns. Whatever. But we don’t need to go back 30-40-50 years that’s all I’m saying.

@@turbotoez3539 Teams in the 2000s being reliable? BMW and McLaren are weeping tears at the mere suggestion. They could have won championships during the Ferrari era if they actually had been. Unreliability basically ended Mika's career, that's how bad it got - 7 retirements in 2001, plus 1 DNS. Of course, that's pretty good compared to JPM in the same year - 11 retirements! Now, sure, not all were about reliability, but the teams of the era - including vaunted Ferrari! - were laughable in their operations compared to today.

I’m a out of state superintendent for general contractor and it’s almost impossible for me to schedule time off months ahead of time because a week with the wrong person of my job could make my life hell for whole month or more.
