Adding some more tools to my garage with a comparison of the Torin BIgRed 3 Ton floor jack with the 4 ton jack when lifting up the F250. Both worked pretty well. 👍 Please let me know what you think in the comments ⬇️

I think mine is a 3 ton and it always works fine. Gotta choose what you want, speed or less force. Gotta love those unit bearings! I'll be switching my other Cummins to old school bearings with locking hubs I stole off a obs Ford. Last longer and waaaay cheaper.

Oh yea, exactly what I found with those. Those bearings are nice to replace, hurt a bit buy but 4 nuts later and they are off haha. Ball joints seemed fine though, which makes me happy. I like the locking hubs more than the vacuum, getting out sucks but at least when it's engaged it stays there

I've used the Torn floor Jack's. I wasn't happy with their floor Jack's build quality. I tried the 4-ton from Sears, which was made by Torin and it just blew all the fluid onto the ground trying to lift my 2wd F-250 diesel. I've had a couple of 3-ton floor Jack's prior to the 4-ton from different manufacturers. The 3-ton Jack's definitely worked better than the 4-ton I tried. I now have a 3-ton from Harbor Freight. (Pittsburg brand) That jack lifted my F-250 Super Duty with effortless ease. It's so easy to pump the handle. And I can lift both front tires way up into the air. The jack is super stable as well. But the Pittsburg from Harbor Freight is also used in tire business all the time as well. It's a much better jack then the Torin Jack's. The newer Datona Jack's from Harbor Freight are also very good. Their technically a step up from even the Pittsburg model's. (But a bit more expensive) Still however, a 3-Ton is plenty for a F-250 diesel. My front end of my F-250 diesel weighed 3,960 lbs according to the Cat scale. I've even lifted a Dodge Ram 3500 dually diesel with my 3-ton just fine. A 4-ton is fine if it's a quality floor jack. But I figured most tire shops tend to only buy the 3-tons most often and lift F-350's and GM 3500 pickups just fine. So I should be able to as well. And their not quite as heavy as a 4-ton. If your lifting say loaded F-350's and such, I may recommend a 4-ton. But then again you shouldn't ever lift more than 1 tire off the ground regardless if it's loaded. Doing so is not good for the axle differential if it's under load. Aka... Nothing wrong with a good 4-ton. But my 3-ton has lifted everything I've thrown at it just fine. I've never thought that I needed more lifting capacity. Your truck should always be unloaded when jacking it up, except in emergencies like a flat. And then only one tire at a time should ever be lifted. A 4-ton is great too. But keep in mind their a bit slower to raise up. (The bigger the capacity, the slower it is to raise.) And they are a bit heavier to lug around.

They’re all made in the same Red Chinese factory….Snap-On and Harbor Freight….same factory! The Tool Bear 🐻 had opened my eyes to that fact. Also, I’ve read that jacking a a truck by its “pumpkin” is not recommended but I see it done all the time so….

In your opinion, would a 1.5 ton floor jack be ok for a tire change?
@alwaysup2late
@alwaysup2late Жыл бұрын
If it were what I had and no other option, I would try it but extremely carefully and only do one corner at a time. Think the back wheels would be less of an issue compared to the fronts. Some quick math around the weight on the front, think I'd do something like: (8,800 x 0.70 / 2) = 3080 Where this truck with a full tank is around 8,800 pounds Multiplied by a 70% bias towards the front because of the cab, motor, transmission Divided in half because only one corner at a time Just over 3000 pounds, which would exceed the limit for a 1.5 ton jack. Either way, I'd be careful and use blocks and/or jack stands before I got under it.

@@alwaysup2late My 2000 F250 SD weighs in the neighborhood of 7,000 lbs. The 7.3 liter diesel engine is about 1,100 lbs by itself. The point you should keep in mind is that you're not lifting all of that at one time with a floor jack. You're lifting maybe half of that, the rest is sitting on the tires that are still on the ground. The only lift that is going to pick up the whole thing is a commercial lift that the car is driven up on. The arms are placed appropriately under the car and the whole vehicle is lifted above your head so you can walk beneath the car and get to anything under it. Very few home garages will have one of those... but I want one! ;^)

... in fact it's always better to go heavier duty with a floor jack and jack stands, if you don't want to be killed that is. I've got 12ton jack stands (not messin' around) and I'm working on getting a 5 or 6 ton floor jack.
@woxie4990

Bottle jacks? ... gotta be real careful with those! The higher you lift, and when you're on a smooth surface, these have the tendency to slip/slide out because of their narrow bases. Read up on them, that's what makes them dangerous.

Hey man great video. For what it's worth I have that exact same 3 ton big red Jack and I hate it. Mine at least is pure garbage and honestly a safety hazard. I noticed after about six months the seal started going out. Now anytime I lift anything it slowly starts creeping its way back to the ground. If I leave my F-150 jacked up for 30 minutes and come back it'll be sitting on the ground. The handle is also pretty janky. It doesn't lower very smoothly. Also one of the biggest things that bugs me about it is with the handle down it won't engage the gear to lower the head. This is been a problem on a few occasions where I've had to raise the handle all the way back up just to get it to turn the gear and lower the car. Maybe it's just my Jack I don't know. But I sure as hell won't by big red anymore.
@alwaysup2late
@alwaysup2late 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the heads up! I will keep an eye on out for that and if I run in to issues I will definitely post a follow-up video. I noticed the handle was a bit weird on this one at least, feels substantial enough but on the 3 ton it doesn't go completely vertical because of what looks to be a bump stop in the side metal bracket. Have been using the 4 ton, haven't revisited that one yet but will get it to go vertical because it bugs me when it's not

@@Menga213 You have to remember that even a very large pickup truck with large tires is only going to weigh maybe 7000 to 8000 pounds. If you are lifting even one side, you are only lifting maybe 3,800 to 4,000 pounds (you are not lifting the entire truck off the ground). A 2 1/2 ton floor jack is rated at 5,000 pounds. That is more than enough to lift one side or the front or the rear (such as lifting it up by the rear differential).
